Dr. Heap for me was very hard to understand. I really had to sit queitly and listen. What Everyone says is true. He is very professional. He was very easy to talk to and answered all of my questions, even when I had to ask again because I didn't understand him. As my visit went on it became much easier to understand him. I am really looking forward to my surgury and a little worried. My other half is very worried compared to me though. Yes it is true his staff is very busy (A lot of us over weight people out their)They did take the time to talk with me and were very kind. I felt extremly comfortable and would recomend him to anyone and everyone. Although that is my personal preference. I will keep you all updated!!!!

Dr. Heap is a very excellent surgeon. At first he comes across very serious, but then grows on you. I am constantly recomending him to everyone. His office staff is wonderful, very helpful. If you make an appointment with him go in knowing that you are there to take care of business, but that he is doing it for all the right reasons. His surgical competance is whats most important and he deffinately gets an A+ there. He stresses after care & vitimins very much, which is also very important.

I liked Dr. Heap right away! He has done so many surgery's that I felt very good about him. I had to travel 8 hrs. to him and it was worth it. I stayed in a motel for 2 weeks and he came to check on me at the motel once. I dont know many surgeons who would do that!
It is hard being so far from him when a problem comes up but I just call him and he always returns my calls that day. Found out I develped a hernia and he will fix it if I want him to. Said he's always there for me. He doesn't require a whole bunch of stuff before surgery which I loved! We are not crazy, ect, we are just fat! Ha Ha! He feels confidant that I will lose all my weight. I hope he is right!

I rate him a 10!!

I just met Dr. Heap on February 13th. He seemed like a nice enough guy and genuinely interested in helping me. He is a very busy doctor and had a lot of people waiting in his office to see him. The staff seemed rushed and couldn't really take the time to answer my questions thouroughly as the phone was ringing off the hook! All I know is that I have a date scheduled for the surgery and I need to be at the office the day before the surgery for pre-op testing. They did not elaborate on what the pre-op screening is. They did not tell me what to expect after the surgery, what supplements or vitamins I would need to take, or anything about aftercare. Everything I have needed/wanted to know, I have found on this website. This has been a godsend. The doctor did not address the risks of surgery at all, just asked if I have been reading up on the surgery and I indicated that I had. I will update more about his surgical competence and bedside manner after my surgery.
4/3/01: I think Dr. Heap is a very competent surgeon. I am 11 days post op and am not having any problems and am healing nicely. Dr. Heap even had me stay in a motel to save money on hospital costs and came to see me at the motel when doing his rounds. I can't believe a doctor would do that for a person! The thing I liked least was that he doesn't really explain the operation and post-op course and what to expect, etc. as thoroughly as I would like. You need to have a list of questions to ask him and he will then answer them, but he doesn't offer a whole lot. Also, he pulled out my nasogastric tube and JP drain and then drew blood from me without putting on gloves and that bothered me a little. Not only for his safety, but my own. Someone told me that he is an older surgeon and they just don't see the need to use gloves as much as the younger surgeons. At any rate, it bothered me a little.

When I first met Dr Heap, I wondered where he was from because of the way he talked. It was hard to under stand at first what he was saying, but I quickly a tuned my hear to his voice. Dr Heap's office staff is wonderful, and was very patient with me. I can't say there was any thing I did not like about Dr Heap. He was very understanding about what I am going through. Have all your questions ready, he will answer all of them. After care is very important. I am looking forward to having surgery April 12 2001.

I have my appt. on Mon. (2/5/01). From what I have heard from others here and first hand here locally, he is a great doctor.

I thought that Dr. Heap was a very friendly, but down to the point, kind of man. He answered all of my questions and my mother went along with me to my appointment and he was very willing to answer all of her conserns also. I would rate his hospitality a 10. I will elaborate more over time.

My first impression of Dr. Adrian Heap was positive. He's an Englishman with a slight accent. He's all business without frills. I didn't mind that being as how I didn't want to hear jokes I wanted to hear how he could help me! My impression of him over time has become that of even more appreciation. He's dedicated to his craft and gets excited at the prospect of changing a once obese person into a moderately sized person. His staff, at first, come off quite short and quick! After the fact I feel that's do to the fact that they are all so very busy. There's absolutely nothing I can think of that I didn't and don't like about Dr. Heap. While undergoing such a major operation he exuded confidence. I never once felt vulnerable, scared or lonely. He visited me every single day in the hospital and comes to the phone personally each time I have ever called his office, post-op.
He's quite adamant about aftercare, taking supplements, 60 grams of protein daily and about getting blood work done to make sure you're getting the proper nutrients. He's also adamant about gallbladder removal and tummy tucks. He feels like a tummy tuck and removing that "skin flap" is the icing on an already unbelievable cake.
His surgical competence is unmatched. His bedside manner is that of a dry Englishman. However, taking a personal interest in Dr. Heap was all it took to get him smiling, laughing and tearing up at times.
He didn't address personally the risks of surgery yet rather offered that, at times, there are complications and that each patient is different.
I would rate Dr. Adrian Heap a 10 on a scale of 1-10. 10 being the absolute best! No surgery or surgeon is perfect, however, I managed to endure without complication and a minimal amount of pain. I created my own experience and believe from the very beginning I had what it took to get through the surgery. I also had an unweilding confidence in my surgeon.

Dr. Heap did my surgery in February 1995. My first impression of him was very good, he was a little hard to understand at first, but if I had any questions I would just ask him to repeat anything I didn't understand. My impression of him over time hasn't changed much (except from very good to excellent), he is very honest with you and tells you like it is, and I have even gotten some smiles out of him too. His office staff is fantastic, I just love them. They are very easy to talk to and very helpful. I think future patients should go in for their appointment with their lists of questions and take notes as they are answered and not leave out any questions at all not matter how simple they may think they are. As far as aftercare, listen to what the doctor tells you! Take your vitamins! If you don't you will have problems. And do what he tells you. If you have problems they are there for you. Go for your scheduled aftercare visits and if you have any questions or concerns just call them. The only thing I have really ever been disappointed about is a few of the times I had to wait so long in the waiting room for my appointment, but like anything else, you can't always have everything run on schedule, sometimes delays happen and it can't be helped. Addressing the risks of surgery, Dr. Heap explained everything I needed to know and answered all of my questions. I would rate him excellent! I had a very good experience with him. Now you ask which is better, surgical competence, bedside manner or both? Well I would have to say surgical competence is excellent, his bedside manner is great as well, he has a sort of dry sense of humor and I think that is just his nature being British, and once you get used to it you will also think he is fantastic!
