I like Dr. Ali. I was told that he ahs a very dry personality but I asked a lot of questions so he opened up a little. I've seen the results of his work first hand and I am impressed. The people in our support group have very posative comments about his care after the surgery so that gave me some added comfort. Apparently he keeps in close contact with the patient after.

The office staff is great and very supportive.

Dr. Ali emphasized walking as much as possible after. That is the best way to help yourself according to him. I've started working out a bit to get muself ready.
He was very clear about all of the risks, when asked how many people have died under his care he told me 2 ppl since he has started in 1982, they were apoparently in very poor health before the suregery.

I'll let you know more about him after the surgery.

When I first met Dr. Ali. my very first thought was please don't die before I have my surgury!! I know this is weird , but Dr, Ali is a small man with white hair and not at all what I had expected. He is a wonderful surgeon and a very compassionate man. Any questions you need answered all you have to do is ask. Either him or the two wonderful women who work in his office. There was absolutely nothing about Dr. Ali that I didn't like. He follows up with his patients after surgury and even calls you at home to see how your doing...thats a real rarity these days. As far as aftercare.. he is very strict on what you need to be doing and believe me he has a whole list of what to do and when to do it. I could have looked the world over and never had found a more perfect Dr. to perform my surgury and I will always be grateful to him for saving my life. He is a wonderful man. Thank you Dr. Ali from the bottom of my heart.

I had him for a different surgery about 4 yrs. ago on my tushy. I liked him a lot. Very smart man.

I still like him a lot and still think he's very smart.
Very nice. Always call me by my first name. I like that.

I don't think he likes me, but that's just my impression, because I only lost 3# in a month.
He's a very smart man and an even better surgeon.
Very emphatic.

Yes.

Dr Ali is a great Dr who (after a last minute cancelation at BTC) understood I had been through everything including my P.A.T. tests and was beyond ready to have this surgery done.He and his WONDERFUL staff were able to get me in for surgery two weeks after my first meeting with him. It is one week until my surgery, I'm a little nervous but so happy to finally get this done! I'll let you all know in a few weeks how things went!!

MY 1ST IMPRESSON OF DR ALI WAS UNSURE . I FELT LIKE A NUMBER. IT WAS THE FASTEST APPT. IN THE WEST HE SHOWED ME THE PICTURES OF WHAT WOULD BE DONE AND OFF I WENT IT SEEM AS THOUGH HE KNOWS YOU NEED THE SURGERY AND WHAT QUESTIONS SHOULD YOU REALLY HAVE.OVER TIME I DID FIND HIM TO BE QUIET RESERVED BUT WILLING TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS.
THE OFFICE STAFF IS GREAT THEY REALLY KNOW THERE JOBS AND GET THINGS DONE.THE THING I LIKED LEAST WAS THE PAIN MANAGEMEMT IN THE HOSPITAL TO ME IT IS BARBARIC TO GIVE SHOTS IN THE HIPS AND THIGHS TO THE POINT OF ME NOT BEING ABLE TO SIT OR STAND FROM THAT COMPILED PAIN. MY FAMILY HAS MANY PEOPLE IN THE MEDICAL FIELD AND ALSO COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW ANTIQUATED.PAIN MED SHOULD GO THROUGH YOUR IV THIS IS 2003 YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TO SUFFER WITH ALL THE MEDS OUT THERE.I FEEL THAT PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW THAT HE IS QUIET BUT SEEMS TO CARE IS KNOWN FOR THIS TYPE OF SURGERY AND FROM WHAT I HAVE READ VERY WELL LIKED. SEEN HARD TO GET TO KNOW BUT I HAVENT BEEN SEEING HIM FOR VERY LONG THIS MAY ALL CHANGE AS WE BUILD A PAITENT DOCTOR BOND
HE REALLY WANTS YOU TO FOLLOW WITH THE AFTER CARE PROGRAM AND TAKES THE TIME TO BE AT THE MEETINGS FOR SUPPORT.WE REALLY DID NOT DISCUSS THE RISKS OF SURGERY. WE BARLEY TALK I HAD ONE APT. THE NEXT WAS TO SIGN CONSENT AND THEN SURGERY SO I REALLY ONLY HAD TALKED TO HIM 2 TIMES BEFORE HE DID THE SURGERY I FEEL THAT I RATE HIS PERDORMANCE GREAT AT THIS POINT ....ALL WENT WELL IN SURGERY AND FOR NOW I HAVE NO COMPLICATIONS TO SPEAK OF ONLY TIME WILL BE ABLE TO GIVE AN OVERALL RATING. BESIDES HE IS ONLY A DOCTOR THE REAL RATING IS IN THE LORDS HANDS IT IS THE LORD WHO WILL KEEP YOU SAFE AND THE LORD WHO WILL GIVE THE KNOWLEDGE AND STRENGTH TO THE SURGEON. I FELL THAT IT IS MORE IMPORTANT TO ME TO HAVE A COMPETENCE THAT BED SIDE MANNER THEY WOULD BOTH BE GREAT BUT TO CHOOSE IT WOULD BE COMPETENCE. WHO CARES IF HE IS NICE IF HE DOESNT KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THE KNIFE. I MEAN THIS IS YOUR LIVE AND YOU HAVE MADE A CONSIOUS DECISION TO CHANGE IT FOREVER

my impression is that he is rather quiet, but seems like a very understanding doctor. I've only met dr.ali once but this staff has been very nice and helpful in any questions i'ved had.what i liked least about him is that he's not open enough.he is very informative about this surgery.

My surgeon was Dr Ali from Port Huron MI. I am employed at a rural hospital and our surgeon had recommended Dr. Ali to me. I found him to be a very supportive, caring surgeon, as is his office staff. Dr. Ali is very open to questions and is very willing to talk directly to you, he is however very strict and is a "no holds barred" kind of person, which may be intimidating to some. Dr. Ali personally called me the day of discharge, as well as giving me a "rise and shine" call the next morning. He insists his patients attend monthly support group meetings for 2 years following surgery. I feel that Dr. Ali was very open about the risks of having bariatric surgery. He is a very competent surgeon, and has great confidence in his skills, which naturally puts you at ease. Dr's bedside manner was very uplifting, he was very encouraging and his great smile made you just want to smile back. I'd recomment Dr. S. Akram Ali of Port Huron Michigan to anyone thinking about having a bariatric procedure done.

First impression was a genuinely compassionate physician. He does not tell you all that you have to deal with and I don't think he understands the addiction component of our disease. He is less responsive when you are not losing at the rate he "expects" you to. His office staff are awesome and very helpful.
He seems to be about $ and not so much whether I am successful or not. He is the only physician in our area and extremely busy
