Allen Okrainec Bariatric Surgeon

I meant Dr. Okrainec 5 minutes before surgery and he told me Dr. Penner would not be doing it he would. After surgery I never saw him again, he did take time to talk to my husband before he left for the day. I was released on Sunday and I still had not heard from him. The nursing staff on the 9th floor of TWH must have been having a bad weekend as my experience was terrible. He seemed very polite before I went into the OR but I never saw him in the OR just the other two doctors that were assisting and I can not remember their names, it would have been nice to see him and talk to him after surgery or on the Sunday before I was released.

In Toronto, the Bariatric Program involves 3 hospitals. The initial interviews and follow up after are at Toronto Western Hospital, however the surgery could be either at TWH, St. Michael's Hospital or Toronto East General Hospital. Dr. Okrainec wasn't even suppose to be my surgeon, however the other surgeon from St. Michael's Hospital wasn't able to meet with me because of an emergency. Thankfully, Dr. Okrainec made time in his day to come talk to me. I was very impressed when I met him...he was down to earth, friendly, and professional. I felt very comfortable with him. I had already been working with the team at TWH, so I was thrilled that my surgery was going to be with them...and even more thrilled when they told me Dr. Okrainec was going to be my surgeon. The day after surgery, I was doing so well I could go home if I wanted to and I did. The next day, to my surprize, Dr. Okrainec called me at home to see how I was doing....again I was very impressed...and that is saying a lot considering I'm a nurse and often critical about the health care system. rnrnThank You Dr. Okrainec and the TWH Bariatric Team!
