Dr. Ledgerwood was my surgeon, who came very well respected by her colleagues and some of my friends whom she operated on previously for bariatric surgery. While she is a very competent surgeon and I am pleased with the results (I've lost over 25% of my body weight), she is a very vicious and angry person who treats her staff very poorly. I have never seen a physician berate colleagues to the degree that she does. She is highly decorated and respected in her medical community, but as a physician in the hospital she works in, she is revered to be a pit bull. In fact, she often gives expert testimony (for large sums of money...) against her colleagues. Great teamwork, Anna....

First Impression "Old School"
Impression still same however more respect, takes different approach then CORI process.

Want you up and walk ASAP. And they make sure of it, by giving a higher fluid IV flow which make you NEED to go to the bathroom every hour for the first two days.

Instruction of after care is very simple compared to CORI. Where CORI give you a manual, Ledgerwood gives you a 5 minute discussion.

So far I am very pleased with the results!

Dr. Ledgerwood is very straight to the point, you can tell the first time you meet her. She did the surgery with Dr. Lucas, they have been working together for around 30 years. He is very nice and is too the point as well. Dr, Ledgerwood has been very good with responding to my questions/concerns. She has even called me on her days off if I have had an issue.

There is no structured aftercare program, I had to find other means of post surgery support. But, Harper University Hospital where Dr. Lerdgerwood works out of was awesome! It was clean and the staff were very, very friendly.

I had my consultation visit on July 12th. I found Dr. Ledgerwood to be open, easy to talk to, and very straight forward. She took the time to get to know me, and then went on to explain the surgery, the risks, and complications that could occur, and what I could expect post op. She definetely gives you an open line of communication with her, and encouraged me to call her with any questions.
The staff is professional and accomadating.
Overall good experience for the consultation visit.

My impression of Dr. Ledgerwood is that she is medically very competent, listens to and remembers practically everything you say to her and chooses not to waste time on the niceties of chit chat. If you are very sensitive and/or looking for a touchy-feely physician, she is not a good choice. I am also concerned about the lack of much of an aftercare program, but am making my own arrangements. She is exceedingly frank about the surgical risks and will not accept patients for whom she feels the surgery might be too risky.

My first impression of her was, I didn't like her to much. But, I knew she was very educated and had alot of years experience. My impression has not changed over time, I still fell the same. Her office staff is Great! Her bed side manners were not appropreite. Her aftercare in my opinion is cheezy. It's like she don't care about us afterwards. She addressed the risks head on. She did not sugar coat nothing. She's very rough. Overall I would rate her education from 1-10, 10 being the highest, a 9. Her bedside manners a 3. Surgical competence matters most to me.

the morning started out bad as I had forgotten the referral and then had car trouble, but it went well. Dr. Ledgewood spent at least 45 minutes with me and followed up with a 3 page letter to confirm what we discussed.

She is fair and wants me to lose some weight on my own before surgery, which I am doing with fairly good success.

She will not do the surgery if you're not walking

Celeste in the office is wonderful

I hope to have surgery in the late summer/early fall

Just for the record. My plastic surgeon is located in Trenton, MI, and his name is Dr. Bodell. He is a conventional/older doctor but seems to have my best interests at heart, which i find to sometimes be rare in plastic surgeons. Hoping to have another surgery later this year before INS. changes.

Switched docs. Dr. Ledgerwood is in Detroit and is so far away. Found a new doc here in town, Dr. William Bell III. He will be performing my hernia repair on 5/24. :) So far, he is sooooooooo personable, and nice to talk to, listens to what I have to say, etc. In case anyone wants to know, Dr. Ledgerwood was excellent and I would recommend her to anyone. Dr. Ledgerwood is in the Harper Professional Building, by Harper Hospital, Detroit, MI. Her Numbers are: 313-745-3485, to schedule appts, 313-745-4195, fax # 313-993-7729

The only bad things about Ledgerwood and Lucas is there is really no postop follow up care for vitamins, protien, or supplements. But i will go to my PCP when i get the info i need :)

Well, after the initial consultation and waiting, i now have a date, and i can make an honest determination about my Physician, Dr. Ledgerwood. I did not want to before because if i was turned down i would not have been happy or nice to anyone, LOL, but this is my opinion of her. She is up front, honest, (to a fault, LOL and the only thing that i really did not like, then again, who does?), and forthright. She explained the procedure and flat out told me that my mortality risk is a bit higher. Approximately 5% because of health conditions. but, she said i am a good candidate for the surgery. I had to look long and hard at my life and decide whether the risk is worth it. YES it is!!!!! Dr. Ledgerwood performs the surgery with Dr. Lucas, who i did not meet, but i am confident enough in Dr. Ledgerwood to trust her judgment. She pulls no punches about this being an extremely risky procedure. Her office staff seems so nice too, especially Celeste. Everyone seems to care and THAT is what makes me feel good!

My first consultation was set in July for the 5th, but they called and moved it up to tomorrow, Monday, June 24th. I am hearing great things about her and cannot wait for my appointment. I have been sticking to my walking routine since May. We will see how far we get :) I wanna be completely ready when the insurance and Dr. give me the ok for the surgery :) I also had my psych eval done already, just waiting for the paperwork to be done on it too.

My first impression of my dr. eas a fairly good one. She seemed competint. I saw her in Jan. one time had surgery july 11, in all that time thats the only time i saw her, not even just before surgery. It was several days after that i saw her even then. The staff at the hospital were great.I stayed 7 days, standered for her.I ws given some instructions when I left, I was not warned about drainage and was upset when it happened. There is no structured aftercare as I've heard some of the dr's do. It would have been nice. No books or support groups, nothing.I have to say now that I really wish that I could have gone some were else.My experience hasn't been to nice in the sense that I feel my dr's really don't care about their patients as people. Maybe because they do other more important surgerys. Some times I've gotten the impression that they think I should know the things that they haven't told me about after care.thats my experience.
