My first impression of Dr. Joya was very good. It has only improved over the last year. His staff is excellent in answering questions, taking care of patient needs, etc. Future patients should know that they will feel like his only patient while they are there. He squeezes your shoulder when he greets you and actually cares how you are doing. He has a booklet for aftercare and answers all questions you may have. The risks are covered on his website, and all concerns are addressed by email or in person. I could not recommend him any higer. I have never received better care from a doctor or hospital. His office and staff there are just as wonderful. His surgical competence (surgery done in 40 min) is just as fantastic as his bedside manner. If I have to say something less than positive it's that the nurses don't speak much English, but I was in Mexico after all. Dr. Joya and his immediate staff are all fluent.

I had Lap band surgery on March 3, 2005. Dr. Joya and his staff are great! For those worried about surgery in Mexico - do not fear with Dr. Joya. The hospital and Dr. Office's are top notch. PRivate rooms, luxurious hotel to recuperate. Lovely town!. The staff made all the flight arrangements, etc., picked up up at the airport, and shuttled us around as needed.

I had RNY in Puerto Vallarta with Dr. Joya and I cannot say enough good things about my experience. I have lost 50 pounds in the first month and continue to my weight lost at a pound every day or two....

The quality of care I experienced in Puerto Vallarta was better then I could have expected in USA. Dr. Joya and his staff are excellent. I had doctors checking in on me 2 or 3 times a day and nurses every shift change. Language was not a barrier. I did have pain from a drain they inserted, but after the drain was removed the pain abated.

I can say that the hotel that I was in was kind of a bummer. It was a very nice resort, but being confined to stay out of the water and not "over do it" I watched a lot of TV. The hospital had better channel choices then the hotel did... but this is a minor complaint.

I am very pleased....

Dr Joya is a good doctor and he has excelent staff. His first assistant came to my room at the hotel every day after surgery and she was wonderful. So far everything has gone well. They were very reassuring since it is very stressfull having to go to Mexico to have this surgery.
