6 year anniversary of my gastric bypass... Dr. Joya saved my life!!! The hospital and staff were better than ANY American hospital and if I had to have the surgery every day for the rest of my life to keep my health, I would do it with a smile. Dr. Joya is a kind, gentle, genuinely concerned man and a skilled surgeon. Thank you for the 5 best years of my life!

Morning, noon, and night nursing staff that really care about you. The surgery went smoothe, however recovery was 24 hours of gas pains then I felt great! Nice hospital with rooms like hotel suites, no joke. The nurses spoke broken english or none at all, however with my Iphone translater app, we communicated just fine. The building is new and clean and equipped nicely with all the newest gizmos and gadgets. The leak test imaging process went very fast,in fact I was hoping to get a video, but it was so rushed I forget to even ask. The psychologist, inncidentally she looks like Jessica Alba, checked in on my wife and about three times to be sure we were feeling good. I did see Dr. Joya one time, but Dr. Espinosa three times or so, including the hotel visit two days after surgery. I'm not sure if Dr. Joya does the surgeries or Dr. Espinosa, either way it went extremely well. My wife and I stayed two days prior to surgery to make it a vacation, 7 days total. The city of Puerta Vallarta is super safe, warm, beautiful, and the locals are a very welcoming. people. It was one of the best experiences we remember in a very long time. We are excited to go back next year for the one year surgiversary party!

Hi everyone My name is John I had R and y surgery in Mexico with Dr. Joya I must I was somewhat worried due to the fact I would have very little contact with the surgeon after the surgery but Everything was great . Dr. Joya's staff was fantastic and everything went great I have lost 65 lbs in 2 months and am feeling and looking fantastic. I am off of alot of the meds I was on prior to the surgery. I have3 complaints one is minor which would be with the language barrier in Mexico try going to Walmart and asking for Chicken broth in their language ( Hint chicken broth means fish broth in their language) YUCK!!!!!!!! LOL Other than minor communication problems this was a fantastic way to go.Second complaint was with basically one nurse on Night shift who refused to do anything other than sleep I reported my documented complaint to the nursing supervisor and dr. Joya who both seemed very concerned and promised to adrress the situation. 3 Rd would be I didn't know what to expect over the coming months and didn't feel like I recieved enough information in that area but this web site has helped alot in this area. I had to pay for this out of pocket so let me make a suggestion to those of you considering using dr. Joya. Do it in the COLD months like oct thru march. I went during June and it was so hot we stayed in the motel room all but one hr in the evening and even then the heat was stifling to say the least. Which makes it hard to walk as much as you want to after the surgery. My wife intends to go back and get hers done after being there and seeing the level of care I recieved. FANTASIC would be my rating my only regret was I didn't get to meet Gerald as he was out of town. Great service and fantastic surgeon.

I have only great things to say about Dr. Joya and his team. I arrived in Puerto Vallarta and was brought to the Krystal Vallarta Hotel. On Monday morning, Nathalie met us at the San Javier Marina Hospital. She was professional, friendly and beautiful. She brought us to our room so we could settle in. Dr Joya came in to see me and to see if I had any questions or concerns. He was so nice and his mannerism was great. All of the nurses in the hospital were very good. If I pressed the button, one would be with me within 2 minutes. The only small issue, was the language barrier, but the nurses did their best to communicate anyways. The surgery went off without a hitch; Dr Espinoza was the assistant surgeon. He came to see me daily in the hospital as well as the hotel. He was also very nice and professional. All of my pain management was great. While in the hospital, I was visited by a psychologist and another nutritionist. Finally, I must not forget Gerald; he was great. I had so many questions and concerns in the 2 months prior to my surgery. He answered each one with care and confidence. When I felt like I may have been annoying to him, he was patient and understanding. Thank you everybody for a fantastic experience! xoxo

Dr. Joya and his team were great. My only complaint would be that I don't feel pain management was addressed as well as it could have been. There were many times I was in pain with no relief. But on the flip side of this I just had major surgery! The hospital was clean. He has a wonderful bedside manner along with his staff. I would recommend this to anyone who cant get insurance to pay for surgery.

Dr. Joya was very professional and easygoing. He and his staff are top notch. I was taken VERY good care of at Cornerstone Hospital, and the days after at the hotel. He answers any questions you have and makes you feel very comfortable. Dr. Olivares is a total sweetheart; he visited me every day at the hotel and even removed my stitches. Everything was so clean, they came in twice a day to clean, I could have eaten off those floors! Whenever I needed anything, I had it. The nurses were constantly in my room attending to me. And Nathalie is there to answer any questions by phone or email after. You are in good hands with Dr. Joya.

I had my VSG with Dr. Joya on April 28,2010. I had a fantastic experience from the moment I arrived in Puerto Vallarta. I was picked up at the airport and taken directly to Cornerstone Hospital. Nathalie, Dr. Joya and everyone involved were amazing. Dr. Joya has the best bedside manner and was very comforting. I have absoultely no complaints and would highly recommend him to anyone. There was minor communication issues with a couple of the nurses but it all worked out find. Nurse David was fantastic and excellent. I am doing well and no complications or issues. My PCP was impressed with my incisions and how well they healed and is pleased with my progress. Gerald the coordinator answered all of my one million questions and was great to work with. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. You won't be disappointed if you decide to use Dr. Joya.

I recently had surgery with Dr. Joya in Puerto Vallarta, Mexica on 2/9/10. Dr. Joya was so great. I had a wonderful experience at San Javier Maria Hospital. The Dr's and nurses were so attentive and responded to my every need. The doctors spoke Dr. Joya and the other doctors spoke English, but the nurses didn't. This did not affect the quality of care I received, because, if they didn't understand what I was saying, they just called someone who speaks English.
