Arnulfo Agbunag Bariatric Surgeon M.D.

My first impression of Dr. Agbunag was nothing but great. He was easy to talk to, and answered every question me and my husband had. My impression has not changed any since meeting Dr. Agbunag. He is really a good doctor and I am glad to have found him. Dr. Agbunag's office staff is great. They are very friendly and willing to help any way that they can. They treat you with respect. Some offices look at over weight people and treat them rudely but not Dr. Agbunag's office. Dr. Agbunag's after care has been great to this point and I feel that it will continue to be. He makes sure that you know that it is a life time of changes and commitment. Dr. Agbunag has a seminar you must attend before having surgery and explains the surgery and risks and if you have any questions he answers them and again when you go for consult he will go over the risks again to make sure you understand them. I would rate Dr. Agbunag a 10 on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being the lowest and 10 the highest. Ifeel that a doctor should have both surgical competence and bedside manner and Dr. Agbunag's are great.

I have to say that everyone in Dr A.'s office treated me every good. The office staff was great. And they are all so wonderful. Dr. A. took the extra time to answer all of my questions. He took me seriously. And not one person told me that I was too small for the surgery. ANd he told me that I shouldn't have any problems with my insurance (tri-care) that they were the easiest insurance to deal with. I just needed some more blood tests done. So I got those done today. I was impressed that his follow up is for 5 years. WOW!! His after care program is wonderful. I just wish that he wasn't so far away...2 1/2 hours. In a 1-10 rating, I would rate him an 11. I am so glad that he's going to do my surgery.

My first impression was aprehensive of the surgeon. But after my second visit, I was very impressed with him.
The office staff is very professional. His nurse co-ordinator has her hands full. But in spite of all of what she has to do, she is very thorough.
Dr Agbunag, seems to be very maticulous. I was told by the pre-op nurse that he orders more pre-op tests than any surgeon she knows. Guess that is why he hasn't lost a patent yet.
On a scale from 1 - 10 I would rate Dr Agbunag 20.

Phy update... went to see Dr. A for the 1st time for my consult... to this date his office has answered my questions in a very professional and helpful manner. And now that I have actually met with him, I am SOOO glad that I choose him as my doctor. Feel free to read my visit information from Aug 4.
I went to Dr. A's seminar last week (March 7, 2003)and I was really impressed. He seemed very knowledgable and understanding to those in need of WLS. He explained the various types of WL surgery, national statistics, and then let the nutritionist and his insurance girl go over some information. Aftercare seemed very important to him. He and his staff were very caring and answered all of the questions. As he is the only Dr. in the area that takes my insurance I was concerned that I really wouldn't like him.. then what ? But I was wrong.. I think this will be a good move. I have to now be concerned about the documentation and different testing Dr. A requires before you even see him, but I think this is do-able.

Dr. Agbunag was to the point. He wanted to make sure you knew what you were doing. The people in his office was very nice. They were laid back. I didn't feel uncomfortable at all. Dr. A has a great aftercare. He sent me home from consult with a complete list of what to eat and drinl after surgery. As I stand here before my surgery date, i think dr. a is a good surgeon.

The first moment I met Dr. A. I knew I wanted him to be my surgeaon. I researched surgeons from Nashville to Atlanta and Dr. A, just came across as the most sincere, knowlegeable and caring doctor. He follows his patients closely and really understands weight issues even though he is not overweight. His staff was so helpful in preparing me for surgery with the insurance "stuff" and the after care and his support group is always a joy to go to. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. A. His record speaks for itself.

I had already been approved at Dr. Anderson's office at Baptist Hospital but due to the cost difference (he was not in network with my insurance) I changed to Dr. Agbunag. I was very pleased after hearing Dr. Agbunag at a seminar, reading about him and hearing a bit of his history as a leading physician in our area. I met with him yesterday and I am very comfortable with him as my surgeon. He is very thorough and asked me of my entire medical history. He is easy to talk with.

I was pleased with Dr. Agbunag. He seemed tired and the office was very busy. He was infromative. I wished he did the duodenal switch. Anyway, the office staff were great I had my 1 year old with me and he was all over the place. He stayed with his dad when I went back to see the doctor and I could hear the ladies helping him out. I guess I wanted to hear that thing were going to happen rapdily, even if they did'nt. But the doctor went on about how difficult it can be to get insurance approval. He suggested a sleep study and a orthopedic specialist about my knees. He did emphasize aftercare. I beleive I'am ready.

I was immediately impressed by "Dr. Auggie" as he is referred to by the hospital staff. His office staff is friendly, helpful and supportive although overwhelmed by the recent rush of calls about this surgery. He is truly a kind, considerate and loving individual and you can thell that the hospital staff respect and care for this man by the way they talk to him. I was greatly impressed by his bedside manner and his compassion, and my family was as well. If you choose him as your surgeon you will be lucky.
My impression changed greatly after I was post-op. He was so negative and condesending that I quit going to him when my employer changed insurance. I switched to Vanderbilt Nutrition Center.
He has no support or after care program set up, but requires that you attend one somewhere.
Overall I would rank him on a scale of 1 to 10 as a possible 3. I would not personally recommend him to anyone till he and Skyline Hospital have a support program set up.
This is my own opinion based on my experience.
