Barry Seidel Bariatric Surgeon M.D.

Dr. Sidel now only does the RNY procedure, but I first met him when I needed to have something else done. My impression of him has only grown greater with time. He is caring and considerate and went to lengths to be sure that I understood the procedure.rnrnHis staff are are very competent and caring. They will take the time needed to make sure you understand the answers to your questions.rnThe only thing that I disliked about him or his staff was that there were not more Dr's like him!rnrnI think that if you are in my area, and are contemplating having the surgery...then Dr. Sidell is the Dr. for you. rnrnThe aftercare program is great. You still meet with him for 3 months, a nutritionist for 6 and there is an after surgery group that meets monthly.rnrnOver all, the Bariatric Program at Marshfield Clinic Lakeland Center is a terrific place to go.

My first impression of Dr. Seidel was that he's a frail little man but he sure put me at ease and seemed like he could handle anything that came his way. His office staff is top notch. I immediately latched onto the Anita one of his nurses that took my vitals. We both have fire fighting in common. We talked about calls and training and just had a great time talking. They call her Fireball. I'm definately going to get her email the next time I see her. Future patients should know that he puts you right at ease and even tells a few jokes to lighten things up some. He's not a stiff bird at all. He addressed the risks and everything very plainly and wanted you to ask all the questions you wanted or needed to. I am very confident in Dr. Seidel and cannot say enough nice things about him. I love him.

He was very knowledgable and made sure i knew step by step what was going to happen.
he also was kind but firm about what I would need to do to make my surgery successful.
His staff has been very helpful with suggestions on suppliments and exercises i should try.
he does emphasize aftercare i meet with him once a month for a pep talk and or a lecture if he doesn't think i have been doing enough excersize or if he feels i have been eating more then i should.
he stressed the risks with me and made sure that i understood what i was getting into.
overall i would absolutely give him an A.
both were great everyday while in the hospital my surgeon or one of his associates came to check on me. the nurses were fabulous, i relied on them of course for most of my day to day care and they were very kind.

Dr. Seidel is a wonderful, caring person and surgeon. He truly cares for his patients and has their best interests in mind. I remember him from years back when he performed surgery on my father and how my father would compliment him. My dad was not a man of many words, so this really stands out in my memories. I had my first consult/ appt. with him on 4/21/04. We are awaiting test results to send to insurance comp. Not optimistic at this point for approval because of the changes that medicaid has made concerning WLS.
I have extreme confidence in Dr. Seidel. He has performed WLS many times and is extremely knowledgeable confident in his skills. That was very important to me. He answered all my questions and never made me feel stupid or rushed during our appt.
-UPDATE- 8/22/04
My opinion has changed since my surgery. Dr. S. only popped in for a few minutes during my pre-op and that was the last I saw of him. He doesn't do the post-op hospital visits anymore because he is too busy. He sends some other Dr. I had never met before and doesn't know me. I hear he is doing many more RNYs each week now and doesn't have the time to spend with his patients anymore. Very disappointing.

Dr. Seidel is a wonderful and caring person. I spent over an hour with him, and he completely put my mind at ease. He has a large staff and I feel that I will get all the support that I need. He explained all the risks of the surgery, and in detail. Especially the care they take so you do not get blood clots. I have not had my surgery yet, still a few days, but he put my mind at ease.

Dr Seidel is a wonderful caring dr. His daughter Dr Boyer was also involved with my surgery. I would recommend both dr's with a great bedside manner, complete cofidence in their abilities.
Dr Seidel has a great follow up program, and I met and am working with the hospital nutrionalist as well.
The Physical Therapist at the hospital, is also trying to put together a local support group, where we can meet and talk and then participate in an excersise session with other gastric bypass patients in this area.

My first impression of Dr. Seidel was that he is a very thoughtful and kind man. He put me at ease and answered every question I asked and spent as much time with me as I needed.
My impression of him has not changed in a negative way at all. I am very pleased by his over all genuine care and consern that I be as healthy as absolutely possible for this surgery. I have had 2 cancellations due to some anemia problems.(No matter how hard I begged he wouldn't give in and do the surgery one minute before my hemoglobin was where is was supposed to be Hee hee)
His staff is wonderful and have answered any questions I have had and have returned every phone call in a very timely manor.
I feel he is a very thourough doctor and feel his experience speaks for itself.
I think his surgical competence, and bed side manner are great.
