Boyd Terry Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.
I had my gastric bypass weight loss surgery in July 2000.Before my surgery, I had a weight of about 585 lbs. I will be celebrating my 5-year anniversary this year. I currently weigh 342 lbs; that puts me at an approximate loss of 243 lbs. so far,& I am still making positive progress. I feel that Dr. Terry is a very good & considerate doctor & surgeon. He has a great bedside manner, and is very understanding. I still see him periodically for follow-up checkups, & I would recommend him very highly to anyone considering this type of surgery. On a scale of 1-10, I rate Dr. Terry at a 10!!
My first impression of Dr. Terry was good. I was assured by him that I was a good candidate for the surgery. After the surgery I had many complications. Dr. Terry told me that it was all in my head and that I would just get over it. Dr. Terry eventually stopped being able to help me completely. He used me like a guinea pig and ran tests on me that were completely unneccesary. I finally found a good doctor in my local town who gave me a script that stopped me from getting sick. Once that stopped than I was ok, and started healing finally. I feel that I didn't like the doctor because he got me in, collected his money, then hung me out to dry. He didn't even care when I was admitted into the hospital. I wouldn't suggest him as a doctor to anyone. He was one of the worst doctors I have ever had. His bedside manner was the worst that I have ever met. I am glad that he isn't a doctor anymore.
I am truly impressed with Dr. Terry. He really took his time to talk to me and explain things and answer my questions. He seemed to really care about me as a person. I feel very confident that he is the right choice for me. His nurses were wonderful, they answered questions and gave all the information that I needed. If you have Dr. Terry for your surgeon, I believe that you will be in very good hands.
I have had a high respect for Dr. Terry, he has always been very good about explaining things to me before and after the surgery, but his office has been one that you shouldnt plan on being in any time close to the time that you have your appointment. He has a great bedside manner, and is very compassionate. I would highly recommend him for this kind of surgery, he knows what he does and does it well. He has you talk to a dietician and is good with doing blood work and following how well you do after your surgery.
Dr. Terry was very friendly, and wise,it hasn't changed, the staff was friendly and eazy to work with,
you should know that to go to see him is an all day thing, because he is in high demand. I was impressed with his before care, in both tests and pre-required Suport group meetings' 3 before you even see him.and he is at everyone. as a rating to date I would rate him a 9. 10 being the top score.
My first impression of Dr. Terry was a very soft spoken doctor who cared about his patients. When I had my appt he took as much time as I need. His staff is very helpful also. Future patients should know he is very hard to get into but hang in there and you won't be sorry. Dr. Terry has a support group that meets each month for before and after surgery patients, it is required to attend 3 meetings before surgery. I plan on continuing this practice to give me support. I rate Dr. Terry at this point in the process very highly.
My first impression of Dr. Terry was he looks so understanding. And as our group meeting was over I stood up to talk to him, because I had concerns that I am not as overweight as some of the people, but my BMI is 40, and I had tried everything under the sun to lose weight if you read my profile you will see, I told him I had an appointment with him in Febuary, and he just seemed to know and understand my feelings and what I need.
He is a capable, meek man who is serious about helping others. His office staff, are seriously interested in the well being of those who have been injured over time by their weight both mentally and physically. They are understanding, professional, and most importantly they are solidly resolved to improve the life for those that feel they are truely at the end of their rope. I got the feeling that his staff members are there because they want to be. You can have complete confidence in Dr. Terry and his staff that they will do what is BEST for you and be concerned for you, about you and with you. They have set up a mulit-facited program that will: meet the needs of those seeking information, meet the needs of those that need support as they wait for surgery, and meet the needs of those who have already gone through surgery. They are a dedicated staff..and they all reflect the dedication of their leader - Dr.Boyd Terry.
At first impression, their staff seemed to be too hurried, but as I get to know them, and see the massivness of the program, what first appreared to be 'too hurried' I would now define as a desperation to stream line the process of visits and time one has to wait to go through this process. They are dealing, consistantly, with a large number of people, and that number continues to grow. They have a lot to do, but they don't overlook the details.
All of this is just my humble opinion! But if anyone says they got Dr.Terry as their doctor I would, without hesitation say, "CONGRATULATIONS"!!!!!
