Bruce Wolfe is the most competent Surgen I have ever met. He has been doing WLS since 1983 when it was very experimental. He runs almost all of the statistics on WLS surgery for the USA and he is a huge supporter of making insurance companies see the need for this surgery. He came and saw me before surgery and after. He answered all of my questions and was very patient and kind. He had a million and one things going on before we went into surgery and when I saw him the first time but once in the OR it was all about me. My surgery was 3hours long and he said it went perfectly he couldn't have asked for it to have gone better and I trust him with my lilfe. I have not had any post surgery problems and I am excited to say I am loosing weight fast just as he promised.

Dr. Wolfe is a very straight forward no need for sugarcoating type of man. Others might not appreciate his candor, but I most certainly did. He made not secret that this surgery would not be my cure all, but just a jumpstart to weightloss. He made very clear the dangers of the surgery.

I've been searching for a surgeon for 10 years who could help me with a revision from a vertical silicone gastroplasty to the RNY surgery. I've met Dr. Wolfe, was impressed with him and his credentials and knowledge about my particular problem. He has done over 150 revision surgeries. He went over all the risks, etc. I've done my homework and feel Dr. Wolfe is the best surgeon for me. He was very imformative, not rushed and I felt quite comfortable with his knowledge of my procedure.

All excellent
Very structured after care for one year

My first impression of Dr. Wolfe was that he was generally personable, but not overly "gushy." My impression did not change over time. His office staff was very nice, efficient. I haven't seen him in several years, but my recollection is that the thing I liked least was that he was always in a hurry and never seemed like he had time to answer all of my questions. This may have changed over time, and because of the fact that he has left UCDavis and is now involved in a much smaller hospital setting. Aftercare wasn't overly emphasized at the time. His aftercare program was a series of diet sheets--nothing more structured than that. That may have changed by this time, though. Dr. Wolfe was very honest regarding the surgery risks. I would rate him 6 out of 10. Surgical competence was better than bedside manner.

I felt confident with his skills at the time I had my surgery in May 1999.
All went well for me post surgically until the 2 1/2 year mark I experienced a change in my level of hunger and the amount of food it was taking to feel full.
fair.
He was hard to get to know.

I had vertually no after care with him and the hospital I was done at.

No!!!!

He was good at explaining the common risk, but gave no detail of the less common posable one that could occor.

Good in the beginning, but very bad now at the six year out point and after the findings after having to have a revision surgery done to repair the mess inside me left by Dr. Wolfes first surgery in 1999.

So glad I found him, puts you at ease, and knows what he is talking about, someone who really cares about what your going through. Don't think I could have found anyone better.

The office staff is wonderful along with the Dr. He seems to know what is going on. I have only meet with him once so far.

I really liked him during the initial orientation. He seemed a bit geeky but really seemed to know what he was talking about. He took time to answer every question and did not give the impression that any question was dumb or that he had heard the same question a million times.

The office staff has been good, however I have had only minimal interation with them to date. Tomorrow is my pre-op appointment and I expect that I will get to know them better.

There was quite a bit of talk in the initial consultation appointment about the risks. I think he has been very clear.

I am also glad that he is involved in a long term study which I have volunteered to be a part of. I feel that this will help keep me motivated as time goes on and may also help the Dr. to make sure I am well taken care of.

I think that surgical competance is a huge factor, but I would not have the surgery with a doctor whoses bedside manner was not also very good.
