My first impression of Dr. Dyas was that he really knew his stuff. I attended a seminar with my mom that he put on, and we both decided that night that he would be our surgeon. Post-op I still have the same opinion of him. I have heard lots of mixed opinions of him, but my mom and I have both been very happy with him. All the nurses and aides at the hospital respect him a lot, and several of them said if they had surgery, they would pick him. One of my nurses even told me that she is about to have RNY and he is performing her surgery. It really made me feel good about my choice! I have heard that he is tough if you don't follow his rules, but I haven't had to learn that, because I am following them! He is very informative, very smart, and was happy for me to be doing well after surgery. I have nothing but good things to say about Dr. Dyas and the staff at Southeastern Surgical!

I loved Dr. Dyas right from the start. He was very professional and smart, but one of the things I loved best about him was that he was blunt. He said what needed to be said whether it was good, bad, or ugly. Whatever the case, I knew I could count on him to tell me the truth. I was so pleased with him that I recommended him to my mother, who aslo got him to do her gastric bypass. Then later on he also did her gall bladder removal. Years later when I needed my gall bladder removed I called him again. If I ever need another surgery that he can perform I will DEFINATELY be calling on him again. I honestly have nothing negative to say about him, and would recommend him highly to anyone in the area.

Dr. Dyas saved my life. He is tough/no nonsense about sticking to the "rules" but I needed that. He gets excited with you when you have success. His staff is great. He was very clear about the risks and procedures of the surgery and works to make sure you understand them prior to the surgery. I have nothing but respect and gratitude for Dr. Dyas.

I was very impressed by Dr. Dyas and felted I could talk with him. He is more cautious after surgery than some surgeons but I found that a good thing. Most of his office staff is great and help with problems with my insurance in a timely way. I saw him every day post op. The staff was very aware of what he wanted and may sure it got done. He requires patients to get up every 4 hours and if they refuse the staff is to call Him. They say he would come up and give you the low down if you did not co operate. I did well so I did not experience that but good to know he is stead fast in his care.

I actually talked to a number of people who have already had surgery about their experiences and their opinions of their surgeons. Dr. Dyas was recommended by several individuals as being very straightforward and informative. When I met him for the first time, I found him to be just that. He didn't waste any time in explaining the proceedures, what I needed to do and he gave me "homework". Rather than give me a pre-printed diagram of the surgery proceedure he drew a diagram and explained each step as he went. I found that to be easier to understand and remember.

Very straight and to the point, he's a surgeon! I had a problem where he thought i had a blockage and was very firm with me to say the least. His surgical competence is wonderful. The office staff is very knowledgeable. The risks of surgery were explained throughly.

Dr. Dyas thoroughly explained the gastric bypass procedure that he does, the Gastric Bypass Roux-en-Y. This procedure combines a restrictive procedure (making the stomach smaller) with a malabsorptive procedure (bypassing the small intestines where most calories are absorbed). He explained the surgical risks then told us what he requires of all of his patients before considering the surgery.

First he wants a two-week food diary of everything I eat and the times I eat it.

Secondly, his nurse made an appointment for me with a cardipulmonary doctor to make sure I am physically able to undergo surgery and to minimize the risks.

Thirdly, I have to make an appointment with a psychologist for a psycological evaluation to ensure that I am doing this for the right reasons and won't run into emotional issues as a result.

Dr. Dyas explained that I would have trouble getting BCBS approval for the surgery since I have not been on any type of medically supervised weight-loss program. He told me to start Sugar busters and to come back in 2 weeks with a food diary.

Although I found his manner a bit abrupt, I really like the fact that Dr. Dyas explains things so thoroughly and does so much to minimize both physical and psychological risks.

My first impression of him was he was serious about this surgery. I had 2 pages of questions for him. He answered all of them in my first visit. He did want to know what my husband thought about this decision I've made and why he was not there on my visit. I explained why my daughter was there and he was ok with the reason. My husband was there on the second visit and we have been to my first support meeting together. I liked Dr. Dyas very much and I think he shoots you straight and he says he is chicken about taking any unnessary risks and I like that. As far as his office staff, they have been very nice and anytime I have needed anything answered or done they have been right on top of it. As for what future patients need to know about Dr. Dyas is that he is good at what he does, but he wants you to know how important this surgery is and there are risks involved. Make sure you know what you want and go for it. As for the aftercare, he was very serious in telling me that if I listen and do what he says then this can and will alot smoother and it's most important that a aftercare program is a must as far as he is concern and I agree with him totally. Dr. Dyas went over all the risks of surgery in general and then went back over the risks of this type of surgery. I would rate Dr, Dyas so far as excellent and I will be happy to keep you informed as I go along with my new life and journey. As far as which is better, surgial competence or bedside manner I would say both are most inportant because everyone wants the best doctor to take care of them but bedside manner is so important to feel confortable and save phyically and menatally, Thank you 11/7/04
