Clifford Deveney Bariatric Surgeon M.D.,F.A.C.S.

My surgeon was very business like,but very professional,no messing around!!!He was very clear in his description of every aspect of the step I was taking and was able to educate me considerably ,which I appreciated!
After surgery I still never saw anything other than an all business side to my surgeon!I felt that although he was nice enough,he had no time for me!He made sure all was going well medically and stayed on top of the situation,but that was it!!I felt like a number....NEXT!!

Well I have been scheduled for the infomational class for Dr Deveney, and have a consultation appt with him on Dec 23rd....hopefully Merry Christmas to Me and he will take me as a patient and set me up with a date!

My consult with Dr. Welker went well. He wanted to have some test done before he would even write the letter of medical necessity. He seems to be focused on prevention to problems of the surgery, which I think is good. He allowed me to have my support person there and her mom, and he answered all of everyones questions. I asked him flat out what the complication rates were and he described them to me. I still really like Dr. Welker and I am still forging ahead with this process.

I was at a support group meeting a few weeks ago and I met Dr. Welker. He is based out of Eugene, OR these days. My first impression of him is that he has a sense of humor which is so important to me....but I reserve the right to change my mind....my consult is comming up soon....

i was very surprised with the doctors 5 min assesment of me i weight 230p at 1st consult

the staff has been awful they never return you calls and didn't seem to care the i was coming out of state( 4 hour drive )

i like doc Deveney....

I just met him one time but so far my impressions are good..he seems pretty understanding and compassionate.

I am 8 days post-op and I have nothing but praises for Dr. DeVeney! He was wonderful and understanding from day one, but now I know what a top knotch surgeon he is. My surgery was virtually pain-free and complication-free. Nothing to complain about. I honestly wouldn't know I had major surgery 8 days ago if it weren't for the lap scars and the residual tiredness. I can't say enough good things about my experience.

Dr. Deveney was very kind, and would answer any questions you had. I would suggest that you study the surgery you are interested in ahead of time. He does hand out a brochure that explains the procedure. He will also suggest what type he reccomends for you. He checks in on you almost everyday your in the hospital. He is there all hours. You do need to deal with the residents and medical students everyday. The office staff have been kind and will return my calls the same day when I have a problem or questions. I think the thing that I find the hardest is that they don't yet have they're program together yet and it sometimes seems as though you can't get specifics. There is no structured program, the diet/food information is vague, and some of the post-op questions are answered vaguely. I believe that they are working on putting a whole program together, but earn't quite there yet. Also, I don't believe that Dr. Deveney has had quite as much experience with this procedure as some of the other surgeons in the area. Dr. Deveney has a good bedside manner and I believe is a competant surgeon. I think I would recommend a "structured program" and a surgeon who has been doing this for years. Especially if you are fearful or don't have any "medical" saavy.

Dr. Deveney and his staff were just as nice as everyone says. All of my questions were answered completely and in language I could understand. Now I'm just waiting to hear about insurance approval.

Doctor Deveney is the first in quite a long list of docs that has given me any reason to think I may get past this. My family doc just says he is sorry but he doesnt know anything we havent tried to make a difference. He has prayed with me and done every test known to him and still have no answers. I am very hopeful as is Doc. Deveney' that the staff at his office has tried to help me put together the appeal letter they all seem very nice. I guess the thing that I like least about him would be the way he wrote the first letter, he knew that my insurance excluded the weightloss surgery so starting that letter Debra Jones is a morbidly obese..... problably didnt help
I thought he would tell them the medical problems I have first and say that this surgery would help them and may also cause me to loose weight, therfor avoiding future problem. His office gave me a booklet on the surgery choices and gave the risks involved.
I have only seen him once but I am sure the after care will be very good
I think he is a competent surgeon as well as a caring man who would like to help peole like me

I was recommended to Dr. Deveney from 2 friends of mine who have had the surgery and were very satisfied with him. Dr. D talked about the different surgery's he performed and recommended the Laproscopic Divided Roux-en-Y for me based on the information I had given him. After researching websites and talking with his very helpful nurses I chose to go with his recommendation I know I will be completely satisfied with it and so far I am with him as well.

I saw Dr. Deveney on Aug. 29, 2002. My consult went very well. I found Dr. Deveney very kind and willing to explain any question I had. I feel confident in my surgeon choice as he is Chief of surgery at OHSU as well as a Professor at the adjacent medical school. I also liked his direct approach with the whole process. He didn't make me jump thru hoops with sleep tests, psych tests, mandatory support meetings, etc.I know that may not be what everyone wants, but it really fits me. As far as aftercare, the practice does have a support group once a month, and he highly emphasizes online support such as obesityhelp.com (it's even in his info packet). So far, I would rate him a 9 (he hasn't done my surgery yet!)Dr. Deveney also seems motivated to help any way he can with the insurance approval process. The only negative of the consult was the wait in the waiting room. But, I know a surgeon has first priority to finishing the scheduled surgeries of that day.

My surgeon is Cliff Deveney at OHSU. He is taking over Kenneth Welkers practice.
He is a four gut surgeon, now doing bariatrics as well. He has been working with Drs. Welker and McConnell at OHSU.
I really liked him right off. He was friendly and professional. He answered all my questions and put me right at ease.
He was trained by Kenneth Welker in the DS. He is more conservative in his surgery.
I would give him an overall scale of 8.
I feel surgical competence is the most important. I feel he is very competent. I felt his bed side manner was fine. I was very comfortable with him.
His specialty is NOT bariatrics. His follow up care might not be as thorough as Dr Welker or Mcconnell. My PCP works in bariatics however so I feel I will have proper follow up.
