My first impression of Dr. Sloan that he was very educated and informative. He was quiet but when I had any concern or question he took the time to explain it. His staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. He and his staff do a great job emphasizing the importance of aftercare. I do however wish there were more post-op classes on nutrition and behavioral content. I know other patients would not have wanted more but i wished there was an option for me as an individual. All the staff make sure you know that you can call or email with any questions or concerns. Overall Dr. Sloan and his staff are caring, knowledgeable, and informative.

Jan 4, 2009--I had surgery on Dec. 31,2008. My surgeon Dr. Dale Sloan and staff are the greatest. He did not make any promises as I have a lot of scar tissue left from a former surgery I had many years ago. Dr Sloan is very professional and to the point. His educational/group program pre and post op is most excellent. I am so thankful that Fort Wayne has such an awesome Doctor... rnDec. 2008-- I finally have insurance approval and have started my pre-op education classes. I had a date..Dec. 31...but, Thursday Dr. Sloan decided my surgery would not be possible on that day due to previous surgical scars. So , I am waiting to hear........

What was your first impression of him/her? rn At first I was nervous about proceeding with my surgery under Dr. Sloan. I had never met anyone that had him as a Dr but decided that I would pursue having my WLS in Fort Wayne. After the information meeting I was highly impressed with his competence and professionalism. The meeting was short and full of details but he and his staff left time after the meeting to have a 1-on-1 if wanted.rnrnHow did your impression change over time? rn My impression of Dr. Sloan only improved over time. As we continued to meet, I was highly impressed with his knowledge and his concern for me. He never pressured me to make one decision over another and I was never rushed. He always took as much time as I needed to feel comfortable.rnrnHow would you describe his/her office staff? rn BUSY! His staff is great but boy oh boy they are busy. Even though they work many patients, I could always call and get a return call the same day. The staff works like a well-oiled machine and has no problems helping you with insurance questions or concerns.rnrnWhat did you like least about him/her?rn At first I was turned off that Dr. Sloan has another Dr that helps him in his practice for the follow up medical treatment. After a few weeks, I understood that Dr. Sloan focuses mostly on the surgical aspect of the patient and Dr. Mastbaum will follow your over health. I have never had any problems talking to Dr. Sloan if needed. rnrnWhat should future patients know about him/her?rn Dr. Sloan is a very dedicated and caring professional. His bedside manner is impeccable and I would refer him to anyone. I have no doubts that I made the best decision of my life to have Dr. Sloan perform my RNY!rnrnHow much does he/she emphasize aftercare? Does he/she have a structured aftercare program? rn After care is a huge part of his system and the success of his patients. Dr. Sloan requires 4 weeks pre-op clinics and 12 weeks (for RNY) post-op clinics. Each week you will get weighed and then have various visits or group sessions to attend. These were vital in my success because I could ask questions and get answers for anything that I was struggling. His staff was on hand for nutritional, exercise, and behavioral questions.rn rnHow would you rate him/her overall?rn Top Notch! There is a reason he has received awards for his practice. In a heartbeat I would choose Dr. Sloan again…. for example, I went into surgery and I was release on the following Tuesday night. Dr Sloan was to leave on vacation on Wednesday and had another Dr. on call if needed. Well, I went home on Tuesday and had a reaction to the liquid pain meds I was sent home on…. I had a flurry of vomiting episodes that placed me back into the hospital. Dr. Sloan visited me before going on vacation to make sure he didn’t need to postpone his trip!!! Most Dr’s would have passed a patient onto another Dr but not Dr Sloan…if that doesn’t speak volumes of his nature.rnrnWhich is better, surgical competence, bedside manner, or are both great?rn Both, He is an overall gentle giant with a wealth of knowledge. Couldn’t be happier!rnrn

Dr. Sloan was absolutely wonderful!! He was very considerate and explained the procedure, risks, and answered my questions so well. He came in to see me prior to surgery and offered to pray with me. I have NEVER seen a doctor that would take the time and offer to pray with you. I have no other words for Dr. Sloan other than AMAZING!!!

When I first attended the bariatric meeting to learn more about the surgery and what Dr. Sloan actually did, etc..I was so surprized to hear how he decided to do the surgery to begin with. After the informational meeting I was not 100 % sure that I was going to follow through and get this surgery, but I was 110% sure that I wanted this doctor to perform the operation if I did have to pursue it.rnHe has a honest, sincere approach and is very informative and empathetic towards men and women, and He offers a structured pre-op and post-operative program that helped assure patients the best possible outcome and overall sense of well being.rnThe surgery went very well and I can say with all honesty that his bedside manner and surgical competence both are excellent.rnI would recommend Dr. Sloan to anyone interested in pursing bariatric surgery. I felt so well prepared and there were no surprises or complications. rnSorry, I have nothing negative to say?

I knew him from past history. He has always been very personable and was so supportive about the surgery. Supportive care before and after surgery are a big part of his program. Both aspects are very structured and specific. The first appointment was spent looking at all the options, risks and benefits as well as realistic expectations versus unrealistic ones.rnrnI have FActor V Leiden and was afraid it would automatically disqualify me. When I spoke to Dr. Sloan about it, he reassured me I would just need to have a stent placed before and it would be removed a few weeks after surgery. That was a great relief.rnrnSo far my only concern is the times the before and after care are offered. I am a teacher in a nursing program and it is unrealistic for me to think I can be at the follow up care by 3:30 PM when my class is not over until 4PM and is 30 minutes away from the center. There is only one time offered and I will not be able to fulfill these so am very concerned.
