Dr. Marcus was a very good bariatric surgeon. He was very clear about the risks. His staff was very good at getting the insurance companies to agrre to the operation. He managed to get me approved sooner than usual, because I developed gallstones. He unfortunately isn't doing the surgery anymore, because malpractice insurance costs became too prohibitive for him.

Dr Marcus is an amazing man! He was always very friendly and down to earth...and always took the time to answer ANY question I had. His staff was very knowledgable and helpful.

Dr. Marcus and his staff are exceptional. Clearly, he and they are in this field not simply by default or to make money; rather, they have a passion for what they do.

Patients considering surgery with Dr. Marcus are required to attend a support group meeting or two. These meetings are worthwhile for anyone considering the surgery, as well as for post-ops. Granted, they have a slight cult-like feel to them, but that's not necessarily a bad thing-- we have all been on the wrong side of the "us vs. them" divide, and it is comforting and encouraging to meet others with similar issues, successes, failures and goals.

The *only* negative thing that comes to mind is that he is very hurried in his hospital visits post-op. Nonetheless, I always felt (and have since observed in his medical care for others experiencing complications) that he and his staff would find the time to respond to any serious needs of his patients.

My first impression of dr.marcus is someone who truely believes in this surgery. The first time i met him is when i went to his support group he has for his patients. I pulled him aside because i had been denied my insurance. He told to fight for it. After My first visit, I was totally at ease he made feel comfortable, answered all my questions, asked a few himself, and we even joked a little. He is a small man, but no building could contain his heart. His staff is the absolute best dr. office staff on the face of this planet. Dr. Marcus and his staff cover all bases. He stress vitamins and nutrtion and exersise before sugery. He stresses after care alot. As far as i am concerned. The day i step into that hospital all i have to worry aboutis making it thru surgery and i'm not even that worried about that. His surgical competence is off the meter and his bed side manner almost as good as your own mothers. I don't think you will find a better doctor anywhere, I really don't. Although i think he's gonna need a ladder so he can reach my belly, Like i said he is a small man. The only thing i can find negative about dr.marcus is that he only does one procedure a day so u end up waiting a long time for your surgery.Did I mention he should be made a saint?

I finally met Dr. Marcus! I have to say I was nervous when I first met him, but all of a sudden a calmness came over me. He was very personable and seems to be very committed to his profession. He was very detailed in his explanation of the surgery (good aspects and possible adverse side effects)and he made me feel very at ease and at peace with my decision after the consultation. I sat there in his office with a list of questions 3 pages long and he answered each one throughly and with confidence. His office staff is very busy, however, they know thier stuff!!! Overall rating thus far a 10.

I first meet Dr William Y Marcus at a support group meeting at a support group meeting for pre-op and post op patients that was started by patients that had the surgery. I could not believe it. Dr Marcus is just a regular guy.

He was in regular clothes I was in shock. He was down to earth. He told it as it is. Plus I felt like I had found a home. His head nurse jeannie is an angle. This woman worked to help me. She and the entire office staff made me feel like I was important.

Jeannie who meets with the new pre-op's each meeting {which meets the second and forth Wednesday at Holy Cross hospital} gives you a packet and explains the requirements about getting approval from your insurance company and the tests that you have to have done and pass before the surgery can be done.

The most impressive thing was after the support group meeting a lot of pre-op's invite the post-op's to go to a local resterant and have dinner with them. Dr Marcus and Jeannie attend as well. I was shocked when Dr Marcus sat down beside me and put his arm around me and told me "my boy, the days of you being trated lesser than and laughed at ARE OVER". I cryed!

I felt like he had taken me personally under his wing. When i fist went to an appontment n his office on January 16, 2001. He told me the facts up front, my BMI and was painfully honnest with me.

Even though I was scared senceless! I still felt like I had meet a Doctor I could trust. He came to see me every morning while I was in the hospital and took the time to listen to my fears and needs. I also could call the office and speak to Jeannie if I had a problem. I was truly blessed.

The support group has an e-mail site on the internet. You can post questions and get answers from others that have had the surgery. It helps gain friendships with other pre-op and post-op patients. Dr marcus has a nutritionist that you can contract with for a fee that works with you about what you can eat after surgery. She comes to his office and you can make an appointment with her the same time you see the doctor.

She also works with you to supply a special compond vitiam regiment that you need to take which is done from your blood tests. I also get b-12 shots once a month.

Dr Marcus is open, honest, supportive, and doesn't sugar-coat. He has evolved to the Open Roux-En-Y (distal) after years of experience with other options. VERY well known in this area just outside of Washington, DC.

His office manager, Jeannie, should be nominated for sainthood.

I saw Dr. Marcus at the end of July and found him to be informative, respectful and kind. He and his staff sent off a letter the next day to Kaiser. I am currently jumping through Kaiser's testing hoops and I'm slightly discouraged about the prospects of waiting yet another month in a half once my testing is over. However, his support group every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month, provides excellent tips and encouragement. If you're looking for someone to tell you only what you want to hear, you might want to try someone else. If you are, however, looking for a passionate truth teller, he's your man.

His office staff is helpful and together. They were able to put me together with fellow Kaiser patients who gave me valuable tips about moving the beaurocratic behemoth. I will begin seeing a nutritionist who works out of his office soon (sometimes Kaiser will cover her, sometimes not). I've spoken to many of his patients, all of whom have nothing but respect and affection for him.
