Donald Fry Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Fry was very up front and forthcoming with the risks and benefits of undergoing this surgery. He actually drew pictures and illustrated exactly what he would be altering in my body. Our visit before surgery was brief but extremely informative.

Dr. Fry was nice he didn't make me feel uncomfortable at all. He was called out twice during my visit. His front desk needs some work. My appointment was for 12:30, I checked in at 12:00 since I knew I had to fill out paper work. They finally called me for the paper work at 1:30 but they had called people to fill out their paperwork before me and they all came in after I had checked in, some were taken care of that had checked in at 1:00. I finally got out of there at 3:00. His nurse \"Neets\" gave me a list of what I need to fax back to her. I knew I had to fax back two items to her since I won't finish that up until the 18th but they now require another blood test that I wasn't told about. The office is very busy. He didn't talk to me about the aftercare maybe he does that at the next visit, don't know. He did explain the risks and even had me sign the paper he wrote it on. I thought that was very good, that way we can't say we didn't know that. He is a quite man but makes you feel at ease with him.

I met Dr. Fry on January 6,2004 for my 1st appointment, He made me feel very at ease. Right off he explained throughly the risks and benefits of the surgery. I was very comfortable with him.



The office staff is GREAT!!

Dr. Fry explained the surgery to my husband and myself very carefully, with drawings, and answered all my questions in a manner I could understand. He told us about possible side effects of the surgery and talked about aftercare, taking vitamins, etc. He has performed this surgery over 200 times and I have confidence in his abilities as a surgeon. We were introduced to his nurse, Neets, who immediately provided phone and fax numbers should we have questions come up after leaving the office.

Dr. Peter Crookes will do the revision from RNY to DS. I met Dr. Crookes and his CPA, Michelle, when I flew to California for a consultation. Dr. Crookes was wonderful about answering any questions I had, as well as responding to my e-mails. Michelle, too, has been quick to respond to e-mails.

Dr Dahiya seemed to not have a very good bedside manner he was not very informative and spent very little time explaining the surgery.
When I got into the surgeons office 2 days before surgery I was expecting a 1 hour confrence with the doctor and got only about 5 minutes of his time. It felt like a production line. I feel I was so misinformed about the whole process that I am not happy at all with this surgery. I now have a new surgeon who will be doing my take down Dr. Fry is very caring and very compitent I feel I am in good hands. PS the UNM hospital is not in the Ghetto
like Bellfower.

I like him very much. Seems very caring.

The first time that I saw Dr. Fry, I was kind of overwhelmed. It seemed that he was so busy and I let that intimidate me. I don't think it was anything that he did, I think sometimes I let Medical personnel do that, especially since I know that my m.o. problems are self-inflicted. When I met Dr.Fry again for my pre-op he was very relaxed and I felt so much better. He is a VERY nice man, just very busy. He told me that he has done 500+ Open RNY surgeries. I have a lot of confidence in his skill, surgical competence will win out over bedside manner anyday! But since I haven't had my surgery yet, I wouldn't know about bedside manner other than word of mouth. And everyone's perception varies,so I will wait and see.

I MET DR FRY ON SEPT 30TH,2003 FOR MY 1ST APPT. HE MADE ME FEEL EXTREMELY AT EASE RIGHT OFF THE BAT.(I WAS REALLY ANXIOUS) HE EXPLAINED THROUGHLY THE RISKS AND BENEFITS OF THE SURGERY, THE HOSPITAL STAY, THE RECOVERY AND THE AFTERCARE. HE SEEMED GENUINE AND COMPETENT. MY WIFE AND I THOUGHT HIM AND THE STAFF WERE VERY PLEASANT.

I BELIEVE SURGICAL COMPETENCE AND GOOD BEDSIDE MANNER ARE A PLUS AND HE SEEMS TO BE BOTH.

MY ONLY COMPLAINT IS I HAD TO WAIT 18 MONTHS TO SEE HIM. I WAS ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED TO SEE DR. DEMEREST IN MAY, BUT HE GOT SENT TO IRAQ, SO I HAD TO WAIT TIL SEPT 30.

AT THIS TIME I HAVENT EXPERIENCED ANYTHING BAD TO REPORT

Dr. Fry is so nice but a very busy man. His nurse, Neets, always returns my calls the same day and is very helpful. It has been an easy process thus far.

Hi I just wanted to update this as I have finally had my app't with the surgeon on March 4th, 2003....
At first I was nervous...and then as the doctor finally came in...and started by introducing himself...and giving a description of this surgery...and the importance of understanding the pros and cons of this...and statistics were also given...and knowing that this is a revision I did have questions that others of a first timer would not have...and this was discussed...I do feel comfortable with the doctor...and really appreciated his honesty with me...as I know that this is a very serious decision for me to make...I would like to say that Dr. Fry is a very sincere doctor...and had explained all that I wanted to know...and should I have anymore questions I should bring them in with me on my next visit...I shall update again then...
May 30th,2002---I am still waiting to hear from the insurance whether I am approved for the revision...in the meantime I go to the support group meetings and this week..Dr. Fry will be there "again"...this will be his second time in a 6 month period...I think that this shows his concern of wanting to learn of the post-op's and what may be some of their later "problems"...And for Dr. Fry, he is the chief surgeon of the hospital..so with him taking the time to come and talk with the support group shows his interest in learning about the long term of this surgery...
