Donald Fry Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

I liked Dr. Fry from the beginning. He is a friendly, caring individual. His office staff has always treated me very well, especially Neets.
I was well taken care of though there were a few things that I thought should have been made known without asking, like how much protien to be getting in and such.
The only other thing that I felt should have been looked at closer is the food the hospital serves after surgery. I wondered if he was really a aware of what was being given to his patients in comparison to what we had been told we should have.

My first impression of Dr.Donald Fry when I began speaking with him was that he was very sympathetic toward my weight and assured me that I did't have to feel embarrassed or ashamed by going in for a consultation.
So far my impression is still the same, He reassured me that I would get the approval I needed from my insurance due to all my health problems.
Dr.Fry's staff has been great, quite hectic, and he is always over booked so the wait is extremely long at times! I would have to say that the only that I didn't like about Dr.Fry's office is that he is sooooo busy. But that's what happens when you try to help all the patients you can. You can't criticize him for caring and wanting to help people out. Patients should know that Dr.Fry is interested in you as a person not just as a patient. When I left his office I didn't feel scared anymore, he made me look at my life in a whole new way.
I haven't had my surgery yet.
Dr Fry was very honest when he explained the risks and complications.
I would have to say that surgical competence is EXTREMELY important as well as bedside manner.

Dr Frye was the absolute best! He was very informative about the surgery. His office staff has been just great. Neets is fabulous! I have been really anxious about getting approved for the procedure, so I have been on the phone with Neets constantly. She has been so patient with me and I am very thankful for her!

I have only gotten to visit with Dr. Fry for a short time because he is such a busy man. He does about three of these procedures a week when he is in town. He made me feel so at ease and was very reasurring. He and his assistants took their time to explain the procedure to me. I hope his bedside manner is just as good. The one problem that I had at his office wasn't really even about the doctor or his assistants it was with the woman whose job it was to submit the paper work to my insurance company. She let my referral from pcp expire before she even tried to submit the paperwork for approval. When she finally did get around to submitting it my preop appointment had to be resceduled because of the expired refferal. Once she finally got my paperwork submitted I got my approval in about 3 weeks. With no hassles at all. Had she just done her job I would have had the surgery done about a month earlier.
Doctor Fry has been excellent, he is always very encouraging and says that he wants to keep seeing my every 3 months for follow ups thru the first 2 years.

I was very impressed how Dr. Fry explained the surgery and all it complications very thoroughly. He left me with very few questions to ask. He did not give me the impression he was looking down his nose at me. He made me feel I was important. The staff was very professional and highly qualified. Future patients must be ready to spend the day there. I was booked at 12:30 but did not see him until 2PM. Aftercare sounded very good to me. He will see me every 2 months until I'm 2 years post op.

3/30/02 I met with Dr. Fry yesterday. I felt very comfortable with everything about this first visit. He took his time to explain everything to me. Dr. Fry seemed honest, capable, experienced, with a genuine human style. His nurse, Neets, is wonderful in helping the process along. Dr. Fry said that it is amazing how many people are interested in having this surgery. He said his waiting list for an initial appointment is three plus months. It helps to have connections, I am a nurse, and I met Neets in a WLS support group, it has really made this process go smoothly.

I had originally been scheduled for surgery on 2/20/02 with Dr. Gerald Demarest. He was called away on medical military leave, therefore, I was switched to Dr. Donald Fry. I was truly impressed. After being disappointed of the cancellation, I was not very optimistic. Dr. Fry, first of all, apologized profusely for the changes that occurred and the way everything was handled, which was poorly. He made up for everything, he appeared to be caring and explained his plan of action. Needless to say, his professional mannerism changed my opinion of the surgery, the hospital and my future. Thank you Dr. Fry.

I talked with Dr. Fry two or three times via email before I saw him. He very willingly answered all my questions. I finally got to meet him on March 1st. He lived up to my expectations! He was very kind, very professional, and very frank. I finally felt like I was with someone I didn't have to justify anything to. He actually believed me when I told him I have tried everything. He patiently explained the procedure, told me I was a good candidate, and very frankly explained the possible complications (along with the rate at which his over 300 patients have experienced those complications...which was lower than the national average).
His nurse, Neets, had the surgery last fall and is a wonderful, warm, and also very professional. She took all the time I needed to get my pre-op plans together. I was even able to do all the pre-anesthesia stuff on 3/1/02 and make an appointment with the dietician so that I won't have to return to the hospital until the day of surgery!
Dr. Fry suggests both online and in-person support groups and sees his RNY patients for followup for two years.
More after surgery!!
