Donald Scholten is one of the most caring individuals that I have in my Life today... Dr. Don saved my life, and gave me a new lease on Life... I had surgery on August 24,1999, and to date have lost a total of 144lbs... When is the last time that a doctor, let a lone a surgeon makes a house call... Well Dr. Don visited my home seven days after surgery, on a Saturday, talk about dedication, Dr. Don was truly sent to us by God... His staff, Mary Kay, Ann, and the rest of the crew, are always able to answer questions and concerns any time of day or night...When I think about the progress I've made and the Goals I've achieved, Dr. Don immediatly comes to mind. And I can't imagine what I would have been like without your help, encouragement, and endless faith in me. Dr. Don seems to see something in me, that made me think I was worth his time and effort, and for that I'm grateful.. Not everyone has someone wonderful like Dr. Donald Scholten, to guide them along the way... I'm Sure Glad I Do....

I really liked the doctor and thought he was competent and explained the surgery well to me. The staff in this doctor's office are first rate.

This is a doctor, and office staff that will go out of their way to help you.

11-11-99 Dr. Scholten is great. He was very straight forward. He did not rush and explained the procedure thoroughly to my husband and me. He offered several times to answer questions.
The staff has been fantastic and are very helpful and friendly. I am waiting for insurance approval and then I will return for pre-op testing. This office wants to help you!

So far I have just consulted the office staff, they are courteous and helpful! I understand he has a great reputation and lots of experience, but can't get in until February for a consult! Will keep you posted.

Dr. Scholten and his staff were very helpful from start to finish. They get tons of phone calls, from prospective patients, and those awaiting approval. For the most part they responded courteously and patiently.
Dr. Scholten is a very kind, caring man who has a real gift for what he does. At all times I felt that I was treated humanely and with dignity.
You must be patient to be a patient of his, however, as he is very busy, and everyone wants surgery NOW. I had to wait three months to see him, then two months to have all the tests done, then another month for approval. But it was worth it in the end.
Aftercare is regular with him, but miniml. You have to be diligent to get questions answered unless it is during your regular office visit. The support group works well for this, but I did not realize that my own doctor would need to be involved in some aftercare (blood work, etc.) until several months after surgery.
Dr. Scholten has fantastic bedside manner, but is well known and competent surgically. I would recommend him highly.

I went to see Dr. Scholten in July. My first visit found him to be a very personable physician and I felt quite comfortable with him. He and his staff are friendly, courtieous and very helpful. Calls to the office are answered fast. All and all I think this experience will be wonderful with such a wonderful staff of first rate people to work with.

I met Dr.Scholten for the first time today.
He seemed professional, compassionate, competant, and has a sense of humor. He clearly explained the RYGP surgery and what it will do for me, and what my responsibilities will be. I liked him! His staff is terrific! I watched a video and was amazed at how little you will be eating 6 mths. post-op & for the rest of your life!!! The dinner plate held a 1/4 cup of green beans, 1/4 cup of mashed potatoes, and 4 oz. of chicken......and that's it folks!!! And any beverages have to be sipped BETWEEN meals! Wow! That'll definately take some getting used to! But, I feel that it will definately be worth it! Aug.12,1999. -Kathy

08/26/99 - I found out today that Dr. Scholten has done 250 gastric bypass surgeries. He has been a member of the ASBS for 2 years now. On an average week he does 2-6 gastric bypass surgeries. He has an excellent reputation according to the psychologist(Ph.D.)that did my evaluation. I also found out that Dr. Scholten routinely does an endoscopic exam to ALL of his pre-ops, regardless of your health history, so he won't run into any nasty surprises. You are given sedatives to make it through this exam, thankfully. The members of his staff that I have met are Ann, Jay, Amy,& MaryKay.All really nice! -Kathy
