I had my surgery in Boston at Beth Israel Hospital in 2003 by Dr. Edward Mun. There is no hesitation that I would recommend him. He is the best! I am 11 yrs out and have kept off the 158 lbs. that I lost. I am in a size 6 from a 24! Pretty amazing. He is a very caring doctor who works with you and helps you over obstacles. I had open surgery because of previous surgery on my stomach and was on my feet almost immediately after. I am an advocate for bariatric surgery and have spoken to many groups. If you are hesitant about doing this, don't... Go for it! It will save your life!!!!

I am 4 weeks post surgery (VSG). My surgery went great as well as my post op visit. Dr. Mun found that I had a hernia when he did my surgery and repaired it. Recovery is going great. I would definitely recommend Dr. mun.

I've only met Dr. Mun once; it was for my pre-op visit. Dr. Mun is very knowledgeable and takes his time to answer all questions. Very nice. I am looking forward to meeting him again on surgery day.

My experience with this doctor and the hospital - Beth Israel/Deaconess in Boston - was a nightmare. IN spite of the fact that I had not had a thing to eat or drink but a small t.v. dinner the evening before my surgery, all of the food in my stomach had not digested thoroughly which created a very dangerous situation for me. I awoke to Dr. Mun's yelling at me that I had almost died because I had not been 'compliant'. That was untrue. I am not a fool and, of course, had not put anything in my mouth after dinner time the evening before and a small meal at that. When he saw me the next day he screamed at me again and told me that he should never have slected me as a candidate. I was sick as could be and ran a very high fevor for several days. Nobody ever found out exactly why. BEing so terribly ill and in so much pain was tripled by the cruelty of this doctor towards me and the nurses followed suit. Nobody as much as gave me a sponge bath and I was miserable. I had and have never been so sick in my life. From what I understand the day of my surgery Dr. Mun had his staff call all those in the clinic scheduled for surgery w/him and changed the protocol entirely. He treated me very badly and callously; and the nurses at the hospital were cruel. I was so afraid of this doctor and upset that when I had my staples removed by him I insisted that a nurse be in the room with me and he got mad at me for asking her to stay with me. I am now ten years post-op and continue to have problems. Thankfully I am now seeing a wonderful surgeon at Brigham and Women's in Boston who specializes in correcting problems which are a result of GBS. Hopefully this ongoing nightmare will be coming to an end soon. Oh - and never, ever have surgery on a Friday.

I was very happy with Dr. Mun. He is a no nonsense kind of doctor, doesn't chit chat a whole lot, but he is personable and has a great bedside manor. He made me feel very comfortable and confident before surgery, and it went great. I told him I wanted pictures of my insides for my Facebook page (as a joke) and he surprisingly obliged! He answered all of my questions with patience. Very nice man.

I was a little nervous meeting Dr. Mun. He came in introduce himself and answered questions that I had before I even asked them. I took a friend with me the day of my pre op so that if I forgot to ask a question she would ask for me. After my visit me and my friend look at each other and laughed because Dr. Mun had gone over the surgery and goals of losing weight very thorough and easy to understand. He left both of us with no questions and I respect the fact that he sat there and explained I didn't feel like he was in a hurry to get rid of me. Now a days its hard to find good doctors. I would recommed Dr. Mun to any person who is thinking of having Gastric Bypass Surgery.

When I first met Dr. Mun in 2002, He was very much into his job of finding out whether or not I was ready for this surgery and the change it was going to make in my life. He was doctor - patient if you understand what I mean. I had to lose some weight prior to surgery and also go through some testing to make sure I was a good candidate. Once I had the surgery, he was completely different. He was there for me with every phone call, with every emotion, with every kindness a person could be,more then any doctor I have known. Would I recommend him for your surgery. There is no one out there that could help you more then Dr. Edward Mun.
I had surgery in May of 2003 at the Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. For anyone thinking of having surgery, please believe me when I say, He is the BEST! It is 8 years and I am proud to say I am still a size 6 from a tight 24 in 2003. There are some very important things that you should understand. You must go to meetings before and after your surgery, follow all instructions and advice from the doctor and his staff, see the nutritionist and make sure you understand what you need to do and follow what they tell you. I have seen people gain weight back. It is most important to follow instructions!
I did a fashion show one year after my surgery. We had 22 models who went through the program (Dr. Mun and his staff were there). Between the 22 of us, we lost 3,058 lbs. !!! I have a photo album along with the front page of a local newspaper that did an interview with me and some of the models. If anyone needs any help, please don't hesitate to contact me. Bobbi

I had my surgery in 1998, I started off at 303.. I had seen a show with Carnie Wilson one day and I was like I need to get health.. I tried EVERY DIET there was and was not gettting any results.. Once, I seen that show I just knew i was doing this surgery I had mad my mind up. My family was not so agreeding about it.. But they weren't walking around with the weight.. I was working at a hopital in BOSTON MA where I looked up the surgeons and came across Dr. Blackburn, and Dr. Mun.. I met with them and decided IM READY.. Now, I here it takes atleast a year to get the ball rolling.. It took me 4 months I was so excited and thought I would wake up SKINNY.. Be that as it may.. I had the surgery with DR> ED MUN who was just so great.. NOW TEN YEARS later I am 150 pounds.. The smallest I have been is 126 which I look totally crazy.. 150 to some is still heavy but IM HAPPY in my skin.. People really do not know what it is like to be "OBESIE" and I never want to get back there. and I try like hell to stay within my bounderies... FOOD IS STILL MY ADDICTION and will always be. But know I know how to limit..DR. MUN was my saver.. and I recommend it to anyone who is not happy in there skin...

My first impression was that I knew he was going to be a great surgeon!! I seen that he did a great job on the other patients that he did that I know, His office staff are awesome, so nice and polite and friendly!! theres nothing not to like about my surgeon, he's a great guy, I recommend him to anybody thats serious about weight loss surgery, He addressed all the risks to me about the surgery, but didn't have any!! I rate Dr. Mun number #1 surgeon, he is great!!

Dr. Mun is moving to California, following a shattering family experience (his daughter died under mysterious circumstances), so he will no longer be in practice in the Boston area. However the Bariatric Center of Excellence at Faulkner Hospital was very effective and supportive. I would not hesitate to recommend it. Faulkner Hospital care was also very good.
