I had my first appointment for a VBG to RNY revision with Dr. Wilson. It took a month and a half to get in to see him. He is very busy. There are only so many appointments open for new patients and the others are reserved for post-ops. He was very professional. I had been to the seminar and had all of my reports ready for him. I took my X-Rays from my UGI. He was very serious about the risks of a revision. He just kept talking about it. Finally, I said---put risk into a term that I can understand. He said that if I needed it--a heart bypass would be along the same lines. One of the problems is that Dr. Harberg did a Nissen Fundoplication (where you wrap the stomach around the esophogus). I throw up 2-3 times per day. My staples are gone and my band is not in the correct spot. He stressed that a leak was my big problem. I really liked him. He was very serious and wanted me to have my husband there for the next visit. He asked for the support of my entire family on this. I believe totally in his skill, but the fact that they all work together as a team in the practice, is comforting to me. He wants to do another EGD and get a better idea about the Nissen. Dr. Legett did the first one when I was considering him. He seems to be a great surgeon. I have to have the VBG fixed, so I need to press on through with it and hope for the best.

I met Dr. wilson at his meeting that he makes all patients attend before being seen in office. The group of doctors he is with are very nice. The meeting was very informative. He stressed the pros and cons of the surgery and really talked about the risks in detail. It helped me to make a decision to proceed with my journey. His office is very nice and helpful. I don't live in houston so i am having all the pre-testing done in my hometown. I have called numerous times to ask questions about what I needed from different specialist and they always returned my calls and helped me. I was glad to hear that he makes his patients see a dietician because I haved researched about the surgery but don't know alot about the after care and specific diet i need to be on. When i went in for my first consultation I brought my mother and grandmother in to ask any questions that I might not think of and also because they will be my helpers after surgery. He and his nurse practitioner patiently answered all of our questions. My mother is very nervous about the surgery and is my devil's advocate. He agreed with her on many of the questions she asked. He never sugar coated the risks and spoke very openly on all the after surgery complications, also. In all, I would highly recommend him.

I met Dr. Wilson at the group meeting they have in Houston. Then I met him on October 28, 2003 for my first consultation. He is wonderful. He is very young but very knowledgeable. I love how he tells you that you need to do research and more research so that you are making the right choice for yourself. The office staff is wonderful. Connie his nurse is great. There was nothing I can say that I didn't like. I was extremely impressed when I found out that Dr. Wilson was going to be the one performing my upper GI. I suppose I was just going to have a tech do it. This was my husbands first opportunity to meet him and he said he liked his bedside manner. I have to agree it was great. I go for the results of my test on December 30th. I can't wait. I am ready for a new year and a new me. I will update after I find out what is next. Dr. Wilson recommended that my husband go with me to the group meeting so that he can know risks involved just like I do. We are planning to do that at the first of January.

I liked Dr. Wilson from the first time I saw him. He was perfesional yet personal, he made me feel that he truely care about my situation and was glad to help me. My impression of him never changed because he never changed he has always been receptive and interested in my case. His office staff is extremely helpful yet bombarded with patients. There is nothing I can think of that I didn't like about Dr. Wilson.
The only advise I can give to future patients is to have patients, because Dr. Wilson has many patients and the process is long. But very well worth it. Dr. Wilson and Connie (his nurse)continue to emphasize the importantance of aftercare. There is a planned structured aftercare program that all patients receive prior to surgery.Dr. Wilson has never made light the risk factors of this surgery. He will explain all possiblities. On a scale of 1 to 10 (being least liked and 10 being fantastic) Dr. Wilson is definately a 10. Dr. Wilson is an all around doctor his surgical competence must be great because I had absolutely NO post-surgical problem. As a matter of fact I had surgery on a Friday morning and I was on my way home by Sunday afternoon. His bedside manner and aftercare have also be the best I could have every hoped for. I know that noone is perfect but I can tell you from experience, Because I work at a hospital with many doctors and surgeon,(how think they are God) and I can truthfully say that Dr. Wilson may not be prefect, but you know what, he comes damn close!!!

I was very impressed with Dr Wilson. When we first met, he couldn't stress enough the risks and benefits of the RNY surgery I want. He asked me how I found out about it and told me that I can never learn enough, to keep investigating the surgery and him. I felt he was very compassionate and educational. Dr Wilson also did my endoscopy and I was impressed with how comfortable he and his staff made me feel. I actually didn't feel a thing! I have seen alot of these procedures done and know that Dr Wilson did this with professionalism and compassion. He even gave me pictures of my ulcers that were caused from my acid reflux! I would highly recommend Dr Wilson to anyone who asked. I haven't had the surgery yet, and I will update if/when I do.

Originally I was scheduled to see Dr. Wilson; however, due to unforeseen circumstances, I had to reschedule with Dr. Scarborough. He is really a nice man. He explained everything to me and answered all my questions. I'm sorry that I didn't get to meet Dr. Wilson but I am happy that I did get to meet Dr. Scarborough. Dr. Scarborough's nurse - Monique is wonderful.

I originally went to see Dr. Ira Kasper, while my paperwork was being reviewed by my insurance company I did some extensive research on the internet and found that I did not want to have the VBG surgery. This is the surgery of choice by Dr. Kasper.

After reading all the pro's and con's and comparisons of the VBG and the Roux-en-y I felt that the Roux-en-y would be a better route for me to take.

Since then, I talked to a rep at Cigna who did confirm that my surgery had been approved with a scheduled date of December 29th, 2002 (you can imagine my surprise being that I never even discussed a surgery date with Dr. Kasper). I asked what steps needed to be taken to switch surgeons since I have an HMO - basically I was told that my PCP would have to get a referral for me to see the new doctor and then the approval would have to be changed to reflect my new doctor.

After reading alot of feedback on this website I decided that I wanted to go with Dr. Steven Glorsky. Unfortunately though he was booked until February of 2003, because I had already been approved I requested a sooner office visit and was given December 10th with Dr. Erik Wilson in the same office.

Again, I had no problem with Dr. Kasper as far as his mannerism, I just felt that the VBG was not the surgery for me.

When I meet with Dr. Wilson I will come back and update.

6/26/03 - It's been a long time since my last update - I met with Dr. Wilson in December and felt very comfortable in talking to him. He is very warm, very caring and is very concerned with you as an individual. He expressed that he thought it was good for the patient to do as much research as possible on the types of surgeries as well as their +/- effects. He was not in a rush and took his time in talking with me. Since my first meeting with him I have met with him I believe on two other occassions. Due to some problems I had told him about he felt that an endoscope was necessary so he performed that on me. This to my surprise went very well. It was painless after the fact. I definitely have no problems recommending Dr. Wilson to anyone who may be considering surgery. As far as the surgery, I have tentatively been scheduled for a date of August 27th.

My first impression of Dr. Wilson is that he was very young. However, over time, and as we went through my journey together, he seemed very knowledgeable and was very interested in making sure that I knew what I was getting in to. That I knew all the pros and cons. I soon looked passed his age and physical appearance and saw him for what he is, a kind and compassionate professional. His office staff is very professional and competent. There is nothing about Dr. Wilson that I didn't like. Several of my family members were also impressed with his knowledge and professionalism and have expressed a desire to have him as the bariatric surgeon as well. After surgery, Dr. Wilson came to look in on me several times throughout the day, he really listened to what I had to say and I felt like I assisted in my care. I was not just a mere participant, but a partner in care. Dr. Wilson thank you very much, you never talk down to me, no question was a stupid question, and I'm very happy that you were my surgeon. On a scale of 1-10, I would rate this surgeon a 10! He was excellent and did not release me from the hospital until he was sure I could handle it. He was very thorough and concerned with all aspects of my care. I have been in the medical field almost my entire working life. I do not toss around complements like flowers or favors, for me to say these things, they are really heartfelt. I do not have anything negative to say regarding this review. These comments are just my personal impressions of my own personal experience and I am not making no statements about what other people may experience.
