I've met Dr. Denham once at my initial consultation. He was very thorough in explaining the criteria that patients must meet before being considered for WLS. He also explained clearly in a way that I could understand (none of that talking over my head stuff) the gastric bypass surgery and the risks that come with having this surgery. Dr. Denham's nurse, Joy, explained a lot about the procedure as well. I was very impressed (and excited) when she emailed me saying she was looking over the results of the first sleep study I had and realized that I had everything needed to submit to insurance. She wanted to know if I was ready for this step. (Heck ya!!) How lovely was it to have someone paying attention to me and my status as a patient. I didn't even have to pick up the phone to find out what was going on :)rnrnSo far, I've been very pleased. I'm impressed with the whole package. Dr. Denham has put together a team that is competent and caring.

I had my first appointment, and I was very pleased. He was running late (And I came early!) but was so very apologetic, and it seemed very genuine. In no way did I feel rushed at all.rnI also met Joy, and she is a genuine person. We laughed and had a good time too.rnI had to begin my 2 1/2 yo daughter with me, and both Joy and Dr. D were so accomidating! They were patient with having her inthe room and even played with her a bit!rnHe gave me very positive vibes with my insurance company, and emphasised to get approved before the end of the year, because \"you never know what might change in policy\".rnI will let you know more as I come across it.

Dr. Denham is a very nice doctor. He explained things very well and made me feel comfortable with the procedure and what complications might arise. He was very helpful and supportive of any decision I made. He was not pushy at all. His staff has been great! The nurse Joy has been a Joy to work with. She has been there to answer any questions I have had and helped me know what next steps I needed to do in order to get my insurance approval. Couldn't have been given a better surgeon.

My first impression of Dr. Denham was that he was very informative and very comforting. He had some criterie that I needed to meet, and I did. rnHis office staff had been a great help, especially Debbie. They have been working with me through the obstacles of the steps to surgery. They are very friendly and understanding.

PRE-OP:
Dr. Denham was informative and straight-forward but a little quick. I am pre-op so I will let you know more when I get to a better position as I've only seen him once (and once at a seminar).
*****************************************
Post-OP:
Dr. Denham did my surgery but Dr. Frantzides is my follow-up care surgeon as of Feb 2005. In my opinion: if you have a choice, Dr. Frantzides should be the one you go to (they both work in the same network/hospitals).

Dr. Denham did not meet my expectations.

Directly Post-Op:
I was not given a perscription for Gall Bladder medication when released from the hospital. It was perscribed after my first follow-up since I was complaining of pain near where the GB is located (and the old stomach). Karen called and gave me the perscription and stated I was supposed to be on it since coming home from the hospital. However, the perscription I did get from the hospital was for a medicine I was allergic to (for pain). In my opinion, this was the surgeon's responsibility to make sure any required medications were perscribed and that medications perscribed were accurate.

Post-Op ongoing:
In my experience with Dr. Denham, he did not take my post-op pain seriously. His attitude was that I was not having a WLS-related complication and went so far as to tell my PCP (according to what she told me) not to treat me as if I was having a WLS-related health issue.

Karen, the bariatric coordinator, was excellent in her care and was the one who diagnosed me and provided a treatment. I have an ulcer in my old stomach. Dr. Denham stated that he feels I do not have an ulcer since he 'cured that' when he did my surgery. I had GERD pre-op and I kept stating it felt like my GERD.

Dr. Frantzides is confident, but he treats you as an intelligent person and with kindness, excellence, sincerity and he (or Dr. Zeni) is prompt in returning your calls. I cannot say the same for Dr. Denham.

Doctor Staff- my experiences:
At Dr. Frantzides, Jerri, is excellent. At Dr. Denham, Debbi, is average-poor care (does not call back or call back in a timely manner, does not call in tests until a week after they were requested, etc.).

The nursing staff at both surgeons are excellent. Karen is great and she's the bariatric coordinator for ENH so she works with all the WLS surgeons via this hospital.

Dr. Denham was very nice at our consulatation. He put me at ease and explained things in a way that I could understand. He even had a sense of humor! There is a nurse, Karen Thomas, that works with Dr. Denham. She came in during my consulatation before I spoke to Dr. Denham. Karen had the surgery, so she was able to speak from experience. She answered all of my questions and gave me a few different ways to contact her if I had any other questions. Every single person that I have spoken to in Dr. Denham's office was extremely nice. Bedside manner is a HUGE deal to me and they all made me feel so comfortable being there.

The ENH medical group is fabulous for having this surgery. There is a nurse, Karen Thomas, who has actually undergone the procedure and is a great help with your questions. We even paged her at 3:00am once with a panicked question and she was very friendly.<nl>
Dr. Denham is very friendly and patient with all of your questions. We only spoke with him a few times because most of our questions and communications went through Karen - Did I mention how great she is?
