I found Dr. Cason to be a caring person. A good christian man and very funny. I have every confidence in him. He was very informative and very sympathetic. His staff was great also.

9/18/00 - I have a consult appointment with Dr. Cason on October 19th. I heard of him from his listing on this site and from some other AMOS members who so far have only had very positive things to say about him. I spoke with Shelley when I was first making the appointment and she was very friendly and helpful. Only one weird thing -- she was surprised that Dr. Cason had a listing on this site. She said that he was not looking to become a purely WLS surgeon, so didn't really advertise that he does this surgery.

10/19/00 - Overall, I really liked him. I assume he must be a good surgeon since he is with the University of Alabama at Birmingham Medical Center and is the head of their surgery department in Huntsville. He doesn't really emphasize the risks, considering it to be similar to any major surgery (it may be because I have a lower BMI than a lot of his patients and no serious health problems). I am looking forward to meeting some of his patients and the support group meetings, although I've already emailed a few who had only good to say about him.

10/11/03 - I ended up dropping Dr. Cason because I found him to be unreliable in terms of keeping his word in regards to when he said my insurance would be filed. I felt that if I couldn't rely on him with that, how could I rely on him to operate on me? I then saw Dr. Gleysteen in Birmingham. He turned me down for surgery (back in 2000) because he said that at my weight (BMI 45) and my relatively good health --- the risks of surgery would not outweigh the benefits.

Dr. Cason has a wonderful bedside manner. He explains everything in detail. My case is a little different from most. Dr. Casons explained in detail how he would do my surgery and what I could expect. He is very health conscious. I think has had alot of experience and feel very comfortable with Dr. Cason as my surgeon.

My first meeting with Dr. Cason was at his Mandatory Orientation. He was professional yet friendly and informative.

At the initial consultation he was again very friendly and did not mind answering any questions that I had. He went over many details and gave the reasoning behind his answers.

Most importantly, he seemed to actually care about the " person ".

If surgical competence and bedside manner are not both present, I will not continue to see that physician.

I would reccomend anyone interested in this surgery to attend his orientation.

I first met Dr. Cason at a seminar in Dec. of 2002. I was impressed by his nature, and his desire to help people. When I met with him in his office in Feb. of 2003, he treated me as if I was the only patient in his practice. His staff was pleasant and I look forward to spending more time with them.
I met with Dr. Cason in his office on Feb.11, 2003, letter to insurance was sent on Feb.17, 2003. Although the leter to the insurance company was sent rapidly, I still had an unusual wait. From the time my insurance company sent a response as to what tests were required to the time of approval was 4 months. Realizing Dr. Cason's office staff is very busy, I had to spearhead the testing and supervise that they were forwarded correctly. ALot of "backseat driving", but certainly worth it.

2/5/03 I meet him at the seminar and he is very nice and his staff is too. So far so good.

1/15/03 I have not seen him yet, but I get to go and hear him talk about the surgery on Feb. 4, 2003 looking forward to it so much. I know this sounds crazy but I'm so scared but happy at the same time. Will update later when I found out more.

4/21/03 Dr. Cason is very sweet and the best part is that he is a Child of God. He sat with me and my husband for over a hour, telling me what all I was going to go though. Also what all he was going to do and he answer all my other questions too. He had very good bed side manners. He was very nice to me and my husband.

Dr. Cason and his partner, Dr. Zaria Muriel are thorough, non-judgemental and compassonate professionals. They make you feel like one of their own from the minute you meet them. They take their time with you and never make you feel like just another patient.

Their concern is your overall health... beating obesity is part of it, but your overall health and well-being is stressed.
They are wonderful! They are the best!

I have been very pleased with Dr. Cason, he was very informative and very helpful before my surgery. On 1-8-03 he did open RNY surgery on me. He is a wonderful doctor and I have been and continue to be very pleased with him and his staff. His staff is very friendly and very helpful. I haven't got to see him since I came home from the hospital, becasue he has been out of town. But I have my return visit on Monday (1-27), I then find out what the next step in my success is and when I can go back to work. Dr. Cason did explain all the risk and complications before I had my surgery. Thank God my surgery was a great success and I came through it with flying colors. One of the things I do like about Dr Cason is his bedside manners and his surgical competence. Yes I do highly recommend him to anyone, especially if you have to have open RNY.
