My first impression of Dr.Dakin was "wow, he looks really young, and he is so soft spoken". I liked him right away. His staff is the best and everyone is so friendly. I can say that they made me feel so comfortable and at ease. Anyone who is going to have their surgery at Cornell Medical Center in New York should know that they are dealing with the best set of professionals ever and that these are the most thorough set of people ever!!
After my surgery Dr. Dakin was very nice. He came to my room to visit me and to make sure that all of my needs were being met. I must say that I appreciate this very much and I would recommend him to anyone, this was a good experience.

Dr. Dakin is very professional and knowledgeable. His staff is equally competent and pleasant. He is very confident in his skill, and his skill lives up to the reputation. His surgical competence is fantastic. His bedside manner is neutral, but his skill makes up for it in my honest opinion. I have had no complications to date, and I am 14 days postop. I would work with Dr. Dakin and his wonderful staff again.

Dr. Dakin did an absolutely terrific job on my gastric by-pass operation. I give him my highest recommendation to anyone that is considering using his valuable services for obesity surgery. While Dr. D is not an overly emotive person he answered all of my questions very professionally. More importantly he is one of the most competent surgeons that I have ever meet. For one thing,
he cured my diabetes. Four days after my operation I was off of all diabetes meds. Three months after my surgery my GP took me off lisinopryl, simvastin and carvedelol. Now I am off of all meds and the only pillIs I take are vitamins. Not a bad trade. In seven months I have lost 125 lbs and can now get airborn wenn I run. Dr. Dakin came to the hospital every morning with his very excellent staff of residents to attend to me. My procedure went off without any problems. Expect the first three days to be unpleasant. After that you are on the mend. It's now seven months after my surgery and I am doing great! Dr. Dakin is THE MAN!

While I was getting my vitals taken was the first time I saw him in person, he was joking around with one of the nurses saying that why does she always have to rearrange all his rooms. They were laughing, and he gave me a smile. Once he came to my room, to sit and talk, he shook my hand, and said it was nice to meet me. We talked about what surgery I was interested in which was the DS, he was totally supportive of that choice, and didn't once try to change my mind to another surgery, which I liked. We discussed all the risks and benefits of surgery, and he answered every question I had in detail. He said I was one of his dream patients, because I came so prepared with a list of questions, and all my pre-op testing already completed before my first visit with him. His office staff is great as well, they took care of all the insurance needs, and I was approved that same day they submitted. The office itself is beautiful, along with the hospital they are in with. Whenever I call/email the doctor or anyone of his staff, I always get a call back or response that same day. He was very confident in his ability to preform the surgery on me, I felt extremely comfortable with him and his abilities.

I am a HUGE fan of Dr. Dakin and the Weill/Cornell NY Hospital WLS team - from the reception staff to the administrators to the PAs and nurses, etc.

Dr. Dakin was serious on our first visit, punctuated by his bizarre surgeon-humor. We sparred a bit on a few things (like vitamins) but he gently, in his surgeon-way, nudged me back to the possibilities (and the risks) of this surgery and how I'd be an ideal candidate.

The staff is stunning. They all know me by name (you see them a lot with appointments). The program is beautifully integrated across the care spectrum - they really pay attention to each other. And it doesn't hurt that the clinic looks and feels like a spa! (I mean with mosaic tiles and everything.)

The program is less structured than others. It's not that it isn't detailed, it's just that I think they're much more flexible than others I've learned about on OH. (For example, there's no 2 week liquid diet, though there is a 2-day one immediately before surgery. Also, you advance to puree foods in the hospital if you can, rather than after 2 weeks as many other places do...)

The pre-op work was intense but supported. Pre-surgery testing was smooth. Day of surgery the staff was incredible - in fact, throughout my hospital stay I kept wanting to write letters of commendation for EVERYONE - and I really mean, EVERYONE who cared for me. That was exceptional. The GI floor (14 N) where WLS patients go (unless they have complications) is amazingly beautiful with private rooms that have calming views of Roosevelt Island & the East River. Walking the hospital corridor a few hours after my surgery with Issa, my patient care tech, was even more beautiful because I could just look at all the panoramic views of the river. That helped me in my recovery.

Dr. Dakin stopped in every day to check on my progress, and members of the care team did multiple times a day. The protocol is for zero-pain, so I wasn't really in pain - not saying it was easy, but pain wasn't the hardest part. I was ready for discharge once I was passing fluids and could tolerate foods and could take my pain meds orally. I was off the percocet 4 days after getting home.

Quite frankly, this is NYC's #1 hospital, so they have much more advanced techniques and equipment. Dr. Dakin and the WCWLS team have my highest commendation, and then some.

Please feel free to message me if you have any questions.

Doctor Dakin did my Lapband surgery on 3/25/09. I first met him in Nov 08. Doc never tried to change my mind about the surgery I wanted and because of that I knew he was the one. Dr Dakin is no doubt a great surgeon, he does not have a cuddly personality, but I felt very confident in his skills he talked about the importance of after care, risk of surgery he was an A game doctor. His staff is great Kathy, Natalie & Ami all deserve acknowledgment they were great and I really want to thank them Natalie for her great patience and sweet personality, Kathy for her expertist in handling the Insurance, and Ami for her get it done attitude. Docs surgical competence beats his bedside manner hands down. I would recomend him. I live out of NYC but will continue with Doc for 6 months then will continue my care in VA. Overall, great experience.
