He came across as seasoned and professional. After we spoke he was clear, warm and direct making sure I was informed and making the right decision for me. Surprisingly I thought he would be cold but he was a genuine man, with a heart that just so happened to know what he was doing after all his years of experience.
I was very comfortable with him and pleased that did what he said he could do. Things went perfect.

Dr Schreiber was very professional and informative. The staff (especially Tracey) was kind and also very professional. I am post op 9.5 months and I had my 6 month review a little while ago. I must admit although i realize they are very busy I did feel like a number. I still disagree with the 250.00 that you have to pay as a registration fee?? I still have not gotten any followup literature. All in all I am glad i made the decision to have the surgery and also to have a top notch surgeon. He is highly recommended by me.

At first impression, he was very good. I liked what he told me and how honest he was with me. He has not lost a patient yet. His staff is terrific. Dr. Schreiber stresses aftercare very heavily. He is honest, didn't pull any punches. Told it like it was. I prefer it that way, but some, may not. I know that my husband would like him, and we both feel that he is good a what he does. He was honest about outeating the surgery, and that it is only a tool, and not the end all be all of things.

Dr. Schreiber is the number one surgeon in Cleveland for WLS and among the best in the entire country! He founded the program at St. Vincent's and still heads it.

He is polite and soft-spoken and not particularly "folksy", but honestly I didn't need that once I was on the table. He did answer all my questions and the pre-surgery program is so comprehensive and well structured that I was put very much at ease.

I had a very nice surprise post-op. I was among the first patients to receive a modified approached to open Rouen-Y. Dr. Sonpal at St. V's came up with it and Dr. Schreiber used it on me-- my incision was shorter than I had expected and I had no external drains. Healing went very quickly well. I was walking on day 2 and walked a couple of blocks the day I went homw.

Aftercare is also super-organized.

Dr. Schreiber is No.1 in my book!

My first impression of Dr. Helmut Schreiber was that he was extremely kind and answered all of my questions. He was direct and to the point and made sure I knew all the good and bad points about the surgery and aftercare. His office staff was helpful. Future patients should know that once you can get through the insurance process you will be getting a top of the line surgeon. His nursing staff and diatition work closly with you on an after care program, starting at 3 weeks out and a nurse is on call by phone 24-7 . He addressed the risks of surgery very honestly, although most people who despratly want this surgery, probably dont listen completly. I would rate Dr. Schreiber A-1 and would highly recomend him.
You asked which is better, his surgical competence or bedside manner. Probably his surgical competence would be rated higher.

My first impression of Dr. Schreiber is that he is a very knowledgeable man. He goty. I have not had further dealings with him yet because I've just been going through right down to business and wanted to make positively sure that I understood what I would be going through. We talked about my blindness and what alternative resources I would use to implement the program after surgery. I have not had further dealings with him yet.

DR SCHREIBER DID MY OPEN SURGERY ON DECEMBER 6TH 2004.... I HAD FULL TRUST IN HIS SKILL AS A SURGEON... AND KNEW THAT HE CARES ABOUT THE PEOPLE THAT HE HELPS WITH WLS. I THINK HE IS THE BEST... AND I WILL ALWAYS BE GRATEFUL FOR HIS CARE.

Dr. Schreiber was inducted into the physician's hall of fame in 2003 or 2004 ( this was my transition period) so that says quite a bit about his competence! He is a quiet man with direct questions. He was very kind with me and required additional information and support from my rhuematologist - so he is thorough!!!!!! The Bariatric Center at St Vincent's require you to register into their program for $250.00. I think this is a bit excessive. They provide you with educational booklets that help you with pre-post care. Their books do have conflicting information that at times was frustrating - but over all a great help. I was dropped thru the cracks in their system and almost lost my opportunity to have the surgery. Had it not been for the generosity of my employer extending my insurance plan I would have not had the surgery covered. We were with Qualchoice (covered service) and were switching to Anthem ( an exclusion on the plan) It was impossible to get a hold of someone during this time - this was my worst experience with the office. I later found that the person who had been working on my case was no longer there and that is how I got lost. I called my insurance and found that i was pre-certified for surgery months ago, however I found that there is a difference to pre-certified and pre-approved. I wasn't pre-approved since there wasn't a letter in my file from my rhuematologist. It was up to me to "build" my case to get me Pre-approved or cleared for surgery. I didn't feel the resonse to my repeated calls were given serious enough attention. I do not fault the doctor for this, as the office represents a handful of doctors providing the bariatric surgery. I had originally started as a Laproscopic and converted to the full surgery. Dr. Schreiber was correct that I had too much scar tissue around my "old fashioned" 1989 gallbladder incision. Over all I felt I went into the surgery with my eyes wide open and I was very much aware of the potential outcomes. Probably my dislike would be that I "expected" a more talkative person and found him to be quiet and direct. I would say that I was in very competent hands and I felt special to have a doctor that had such success in his profession. I was personally happy with my experience with him. I would gladly have him as my surgeon if ever I needed one.

My first impression of Dr Schreiber was that of a man who know his job inside and out. He explains things very clearly and to the point, without an overly friendly outward appearence. I feel Dr Schreiber presents his knowledge of this major life changing surgery in such a way that I personally felt there was no way I could be in better hands. Tracy works in the office and she has been very kind and most helpful along this journey. As far as rating Dr Schreiber on his bedside manner, well I am not really intrested in his personality. Surgical competence is my main concern, and quite frankly I feel I have choosen the best person for the job. After all how many people can say that their doctor is also the chief of surgery in their field. Of course this is just my opinion, but I really do feel comfortable in my choice of Surgeons and in my decision to have this surgery. I only wish I had decided to have the surgery years ago.
