Dr. J Wasley Alexander changed my life. I have complete Gastric By-pass surgery in 2004. I weighed in at 326 lbs. I lost 160 lbs in less that 1 year. In 2005, I had skin removal, lower stomach and breasts. I's been nearly 8 years since my initial surgery, and I am proud to say, I kept. it off. I weigh 175 lbs at present. Dr. Alexander was a God Send. What a wonderful man! His office staff was very supportive, There was nothing I disliked about him. He was straight forward and pulled no punches. Proior to the surgery, he placed my with a Psychologist to lets me know just what this life changing surgery could possibly affect me. I also received post op support. No stone was left unturned.
Dr Alexander is a quiet man at first but he is very good at answering your questions. The office staff has its good and not so good days. After talking to patients that had their surgery over a year ago it sounds like there have been many improvements both to before and after care. The nutritional class prior to surgery was very beneficial and the dieticians are there for your questions within 24 hours. He emphasizes exercise is important after surgery and there is a support group at the hospital the first Tues. of the month at 6:30 pm. You are given a lot of material to read prior to your visit so you can formulate questions. He is very patient with all the questions. I would highly recommend Dr Alexander to anyone seeking the RNY procedure because surgical competence certainly out weights bedside manner or how cute and personable the physician can be. I'm a nurse and I think a pretty good judge of doctors after 26 years of nursing. Tonia
I had every intention of choosing another doctor. In fact when I first saw him I still did not consider him, but after attending the informational session he allowed as much time as needed if anyone had questions for him. Well of course I had a full page of them but he never batted an eye. He answered everything honestly and thoroughly. There was a trust there that I totally appreciated. He has a great reputation of professionalism, and he is extremely knowledgeable. He has many years experience and teaches other surgeons. If I had to choose again I would choose Dr Alexander in a heartbeat.
I was lucky enough that my surgeon actually did my interest group meeting so I met him first there. He was very well spoken and he stayed after the meeting to talk to each and every person that had any questions or concerns. He wanted people to know that WLS wasn't for everyone. He was honest and caring. I also seen him for my first consultation. He was very caring and listened to everything I had to say. He let me know everything I needed to be concerned about. I really like him. I have checked him out and his experience. I know he is an older man but that is because he has many years of experience in transplant surgery and surgery in general. I have no doubt he knows what he is doing. I will see him next week for my pre-op.
He is such a \"down to earth man\"..My first meeting i went to he even attended..talked to all of us..most had already had the surgery but some of us hadn't. This really impressed me..he joked and laughed with all of us and answered any questions that we had.rnHe doesnt hesitate at all..seems very knowledgeable in what he does...dont seem to \"sugar coat\" ..he let us all know its not a cure for us but a tool to help us reach our goals..that we must work hard to obtain.rnHe made it clear that aftercare is very important as well as everyday diet and exercise. rnI have not yet had the surgery but so far i am impressed.rn*UPDATE - Well my opinion still stands..Dr Alexander is a wonderful surgeon...not much when it comes to the gift of gab, but very concerned for my welfare and compfort...AAA++++
My first impression with Dr. Alexander was that he didnt have time to waste. If i wasnt serious about the procedure he wasnt going to waste his time with meeting with me. He wasnt a harsh man, he just was very to the point. Dr alexander really stressed aftercare with me. I had a long list of questions to ask him and he didnt seem rushed to answer any of them. He went through things in detail and never shyed away from the risks. I liked that about him. His office staff was very pleasant to work with. Since the intial staff member that you meet with were generalized in the hospital, they werent the most friendly but once i got back to Dr Alexander's personal staff, my medical asst./nurse was wonderful. Over all i would rate this Dr as an 11 on a scale of 1-10! I can not wait until i have surgery with him! I have every confidence in his abilities as a surgeon.
Dr. Alexander seemed both caring and professional although his staff seems to be really inundated with patients, might not be a bad idea to expand the office. I will meet the doctor for the second time a week before my surgery.
His office staff is very efficient but swamped and sometimes a little impatient. They get the job done though and if you wear your heart on your sleeve this won't be the first time it's gotten bumped.
When I first met with Dr. Alexander, he gave me hope. He told me I would have to have the excess skin removed right firm the start. His staff was okay I guess. They just seemed to be there. I would say that Dr. Alexander is an exceptional surgeon and he knows what he is doing. He advised me what the surgery would be like before and what I needed to do afterwards. I never got to go back to him for my one year check up.
My first impression of him was that he was somehow bigger and younger looking than i had imagined for some reason. His office staff is so caring and compassionate, very helpful and up front about the entire process. There wasn't anything that i didn't like about him.well, kinda wish he'd told a couple of jokes.but thats just me.You should know that he really knows his *$@#. Do your research and write your questions down before you go in its alot of info to take in and also have to remember what questions to ask.He doesn't really have an established aftercare program,I kinda wish he did,but on the other hand they explain everything so well and give you so much written info that between that and your own research and questions you should be fine. They were VERY honest about the risks. One thing you will be able to say about him is that he doesn't sugar coat ANYTHING.Overall I think I'd rate him a 10. I think that surgicaql compitance is better thatn bedside manner.both would be nice.but i personally would rather have a surgeon who knows his stuff and not alot of extra conversation. than one who makes me laugh but didn't have much experience. He doesn't have a waiting list for nothin ladies and gents. He really is the go to guy for wls.5/17/05 Dr.A just did my Tummy Tuck on may 11th and he is still the man... I look great already I can't wait for the swelling to go complelely down to see the new me... He is an exellent surgeon.
I had originally selected the Barix Clinics in Groveport, OH and had my first consult with Dr. Viglianco in September 2004. He was very warm and made both my husband and I feel very comfortable. My husband and I had a lot of questions for Dr. Viglianco, and he answered each and every one by taking his time and making sure that we were satisfied. Both my husband and I walked away feeling much better about the decision to have RNY surgery. He was able to explain morbid obesity in a way to me, that I no longer felt quilty or ashamed for being the way that I am. It was very refreshing!
Recently through the insurance process, I discovered that neither the Barix Clinics nor Dr. Viglianco were in-network or even a 1st-tier provider with MMOH!!! (Why didn't they say something!?!)
Soooooooo..... I decided to switch to Dr. J. Wesley Alexander at UC in Cincinnati, OH. He was HIGHLY recommended to me by my PCP and others that I talked to that had the RNY surgery by Dr. Alexander (and, ABSOLUTELY thought the WORLD of him!!!).
At any rate, I met with Dr. Alexander for the first time on April 4, 2005 during our initial consult. I felt very comfortable with him and he was very patient with both my husband and me.... he would have spent as much time as we needed, if we were to have needed more time!!! I hear that once you get to know him, he has quite a sense of humor and can be quite the "character"... which all leads to super bed-side-manner.
I have heard that he is so dedicated to his patients that he will cut short a vacation & travel great distances just to make himself available in case of an emergency.... he likes being there for his patients and is very caring and attentive.
I look forward to getting a surgery date, as I am now approved through Medical Mutual of Ohio (MMOH) Insurance for the RNY Gastric Bypass procedure due to "Medical Necessity". I look forward to being under Dr. Alexander's care and getting my life back thanks to him & this life-saving and life-altering procedure!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!! I am so thrilled.
