Jake J. Allen Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

When I went to see Dr. Allen, he was very personable. He was short on time as every doctor is, but he answered the questions I had at the time. This was something that was suggested to me by my regular doctor, so I was not very prepared to ask questions, but now that I know a little more about it, I have many more questions. I am just waiting for insurance approval so I can go back to Dr. Allen and make a date after asking my new questions.
09/10/01--
I have not heard from Dr. Allen's office, I have called Lynetta and when I talk to her, she is very polite and sweet, but something is not right. Either she had not sent any information to my insurance company or they are not responding. When I ask about the pre-determination, I get the run around. Any one else have this problem?

My first impression was that he is a very busy man. It didn't seem that he had a whole lot of time to spend with you. But, I had already heard of him and the way he is and was also told by numerous people that I could not get a better surgeon and I agree. As Dr. Allen knows you better, he spends more time and is encouraging. He is concerned about any problems or concerns you may be having and takes all the appropriate measures. Being Dr. Allen is very busy, that makes his office very busy, but Lynetta (his nurse} finds the time for questions and answers. People should know that right at first he may seem abrupt, but he is a csring surgeon. Aftercare seems important, I was given diets, things to look for, things I could do and so forth. Dr. Allen basically tells you the things that can go wrong, precentages and so forth, but doesn't linger on them unless you have a question. I would rate him as a great surgeon. I have had very little pain or swelling, and he said everything went great.

He is an excellent surgeon and he was great about explaining the procedure. He also had an interesting theory about weight...he said that 100 years ago we would have been the survivors and that we are no longer in a famine and this is why we are overweight. it's because we have a internal setting of what weight we are going to be at. He said " do you think this is your fault for being obese...and I said yes...who doesn't think this...

He is the best surgeon in the Rocky Mountain Area for this kind of care. i not only was his patient, but worked with him professionally as a nurse. Some say he is impersonal, but i did not find this to be true. He simply cares for a large patient load as well as being very active in the local community. His after care is scheduled without being excessive. His competence as a surgeon and dedication to helping obese people are beyond reproach. Additionally, his office staff went to every effort in assisting me with obtaining insurance approval. His choice of types of surgical proceedures provides the most effective treatment safely and in a way which can be reversed if the need arises. I weighed over 320 lbs at 5 ft 8 in, and my lowest weight was 152 9 months after surgery. I have had no serious complications.

I've met with Dr. Jake Allen twice now, even though he is slightly abrupt he is a good doctor. He is obviously quite competent in his field.
I have enjoyed his office staff, they are all pleasant to deal with and very caring when it comes to sensitive matters such as weight.
So far I haven't seen much that I don't like about Dr. Allen he does show that he cares, and is understanding of my situation.
One of the first things that we talked about is the aftercare program, and what I need to do to take the weight off and keep it off, the foods I need to eat, and the amounts that I can eat.
The risks of surgery we didn't really touch on a whole lot, but I had done quite a bit of research before I had ever contacted him. So I already knew the risks, and the pros and cons of this type of surgery.
I can't say quite yet how I would rate him as I have only met with him for two short meetings. I will have to get thru the whole procedure before I can rate him.
I believe that a surgeon should have both surgical competence and also a good beside manner to be an effective doctor. Especially because weight is such a sensitive matter and is generally embarrasing for most overweight patients.

First of all, his name is Dr. Jake Allen. I felt very at ease with him during our pre-op visits.Dr. does expect you to have questions and will answer any you may have. I guess my problem is I'd done so much research prior to our visits that our visits were not too lengthly. He is to the point. If there is one area where I feel improvement could lay is commumication post-op.But overall, he is a good Dr. who does care about his patients.

Well, for starters his name is Jake Allen. I did not like him very well at first, but had already talked to several of his patients who told me to go back and see him 1 more time and I liked him alot on my second visit.
I like him more every time I see him.
They are wonderful to work with.
He is very blunt and upfront and expects you to help in your journey also.
I think you will find him very qualified and that he will do a grat job.
We are just now trying to start a support group.
Not at this time.
Yes, at my first appointment.
I thought he was a great Dr., some might find him a little short on answers, but you just have to learn to ask and tell him what you want to know.
I think both are very important, and he did a great job with both.
