My NEW Surgeon will be Dr John Maguire. I am working on getting my revision schedule for May 2009. More details to come later on.

I am very disappointed in Dr Warden. I would no longer recommend him. He had promised to follow me for life even if at a long distance. He has now refused to review my labs without the costly expense of travel to his office. I faxed him a ton of information. He refuses to comment. DO NOT GO TO HIM !

I can't believe he has gone back on his word. I have also had regain which he will not discuss. This is very frustrating. I thought he cared more, but I guess once your cut then he let's you go.

Dr Warden was very laid back and easy to talk to, at least for me he was. I knew I wanted the DS when I went to him and he questioned me and I questioned him a lot. In the end he agreed to do the DS on me. I feel though like it was a bait and switch. Due to my regain I am now questioning if my surgery was done properly.

If anyone has questions of a specific nature please feel free to email me and ask.

He does not have a structured aftercare program. I had my DS done when he was still in MS. But I live quite a distance from him and it is better for me to follow-up wth my PCP. I do fax my labs to him after I have them done. He once asked why I took so many vitamins. I think he is a little more lax on vitamins than some doctors. I try to let my labs tell me what is right for me. If something drops out of range I increase it until it is in range. Just makes sense to me.

He is a surgeon. He did take his time with me intitally and answers all questions thoroughly. But the after care and questions has been awful in post-op days.

Please note the above is my opinion and my experience...Yours may vary.

Very confident about my surgery and some say he is kind of cold but I found he really is a caring doc he is just a quiet type.
so far I rate him a 10

Very up-front and honest. Answers ALL my questions satisfactorily - doesn't just \"avoid\" the answers. He emphasizes after-care.....for example: I live 170 miles away from my surgery. He requires I stay in the area for 2 weeks post-op in case of complications - he wants to make sure everything possible can be done to help me if needed. He even told me why - about a patient that went home (he lived an hour away), had complications, was released from his doc/ER, then died a few days later. He seemed very upset by this. He feels these were complications that could have been easily avoided. This makes me feel better about his after-care. I feel he will be as good as anyone else out there.

I can not say enough wonderful things about Dr. Maguire. He was fantastic pre-op in preparing me for the surgery and for what to expect after the surgery.rnrnIn October 2003 when I had my surgery, Dr. Maguire was based out of Kettering Medical Center. Both the facilities and staff there were absolutely WONDERFUL! Dr. Maguire has now moved to Miami Valley Hospital, but I understand from some who have had the surgery since his move that the new facility is just as nice as Kettering Medical.rnrnDr. Maguire is very serious about your aftercare program, especially in the first two years. He has you come monthly for a time, and then based on how you are doing come every 3 months to 6 months after that. He likes for his patients to see him once a year, but I have such a great primary care physician, that she has been handling all of my medical needs.rnrnBecause I am pre-menopause, both my gynecologist and primary care physician have been keeping a close eye on my iron levels. Sure enough, in year 4 post-op my iron got too low and I had to begin a regimen of monthly injections. I have a 30-year-old co-worker who had the BPD in 2002 and she had the same problem in December of 2006. I don't know what it is about \"year 4\" and pre-menopausal women, but keep an eye out for this! Although you take your daily prescription iron, that may not be enough. You might need injections as well.

My first impression - He genuinely listened and showed concern over my choices.rnrnHis office staff is tremendous and friendly and just good people ! ! ! !rnrnHe isn't one to waste or ponder time, he's in and out, but precise. Sometimes I would leave and wish we would've spend a few more min. going over things. (I always forget to ask the questions that I wanted to ask - guess I should make a list before my appointment).rnrnWhat future patients should know - \"If I had to do it all over again....I would choose him all over again, I had total confidence in him from the get go.\" He gives all patients a card with his home phone # and pager #, for you to be able to reach him anytime.rnrnOffered a great aftercare program, addressed all risks, clearly and up front.rnrnI rate him overall : I have had 14 surgeries prior to this one and wish he would have been the one to perform all the past ones, he really is one of the best, concerned and caring Dr's I've had the pleasure and honor to be associated with.

My first impression of Dr. Maguire, he has a wonderful way of letting you know he really cares about you as a person. His office staff is wonderful everyone is willing to help with anything.... And they never rush you out ..rnDr. Maguire feels afercare is so important for success. Yes he has a aftercare program.rnHow did he address the risk of surgery, Well him and I sat and talked along time answered all my questions and took time till I felt comfortable... I would rate him as a wonderful and understanding Doctor, he is a 10. Well his surgical competence and bedside manner are great. I have NO complaints at all.rnI am waiting patiently for my surgery date... rnwhich is October 8,2007.......

I love him! He's a real sweetheart and doesn't push you in to one surgery or another. He gives you the facts and you choose. He will give his opinion of the best one...which is why I chose DS. He is a bit shy at first, but opens up and jokes around soon enough.rnrnI recommend him highly!rnrnThe only thing I wish I could change is that you don't really get as much time in his office as ya might think you need. He doesn't shove you out the door, he is I'm sure just in a hurry.

Dr Maguire and his staff are awesome!!! I was so lucky to be living here in Dayton when I had my surgery. Dr Maguire has been involved in bariatric surgery since the 70's and knows his stuff! Ask him anything, and sometimes he will tell you stuff you never thought a Dr. would talk to you about. Including what to expect, like the looks of others after you lose that you never got before, relationships, etc.rnrnVicky and Kim in his office are awesome as well. They are always there to answer questions between appointments and they are willing to listen to different things we have tried as BPD's. Stuff like how to kill the smell, both internally and externally.rnrnI would recommend Dr. Maguire to anyone!! By the way, he has added a new Dr to his office as well. Dr Teal is great as well!

Dr. Maguire is a quite but competent professional. When He moved to MVH, I left my job at KMH and found a job that would cover wls at MVH and with him. He has been doing this for a long time and is truly the best. I do not think I would have had the surgery if I could not have had him as my doctor. The staff are wonderful and I have had no troble calling them to ask questions and have not ever had to wait in the waiting room for long periods of time. The staff at MVH were wonderful. I could not have asked for better nurses during my stay. Surgery date 7/31/06
