A seasoned professional with great sensitivity to obesity. Extremely qualified and came highly recommended by local physicians.

I spent several months researching this surgery, and also checking references before I saw Dr. Snyder. He came with the HIGHEST recommendations from other health care providers.
He is an EXCELLENT surgeon, with over 20 years experience. My surgery went very well, absolutely no complications. I have been more than pleased with Dr. Snyder's care.

I met with Dr. Snyder and his office staff. He did a wonderful job explaining the history of the weight loss surgeries over the last 50 years, and all that they have learned through trial and error. He is not a push over and will only do the surgery if you really qualify for it. You must meet his criteria. I feel very confident in his ability and knowledge and have heard nothing but good things from his patients. I am glad I found him....

He seemed very knowledgable about the surgery and was respectful and nonjudgemental. He seems to want to do the best for his patients. He has done an excellent job as my surgeon and followup physician. His wife is a nurse and part of his office staff and she really makes you feel welcome and cared for. He seemed to not have much knowledge of eating disorders, such as compulsive or bing eating. He has helped set up a support group and highly recommends attending it before and after surgery. He adequately addressed the risks of surgery. He really is a great surgeon and seems to care about his patients.

My first impression of Dr. Snyder was once of someone who would save my life. He was frank and open about the procedure, its complications and its rewards. He has his critera that he works from and I was hoping that I would fall within his critera. Which I did. I was given his name from my health care provider, Ed Hall in July 2000. I called for an appointment in August and could not get one until January 18, 2001, wow, that was a long wait but very much worth it. I understand that Dr. Snyder is seeing potential surgery patients in groups now so we can provide his service faster. Hooray! Robin, Dr. Snyders office genuis was very helpful. She sent the letter to the insurance Co. ( State of Alaska, Aetna ) and I was approved on that first letter. She has been awesome. Dr. Snyder came to see me twice a day after surgery and his bedside manners were very good! On a scale of 1-10, I would rate Dr. Snyder as a 10!!!!! and thank him for changing my life.

Dr. Snyder is an older man, very distinguished looking, and very kind. The first impression I had of him was that he was very knowledgeable and caring. He treated both my husband and myself with care, taking an hour and a half to make sure we understood the procedures and to answer any and all of our questions. His wife, Robin, is his scrub nurse and also runs the office. She is great. Congenial, caring, and efficient.

Dr Snyder gave me a very favorable first impression. He is a very caring individual, and I still feel the same about him. His staff is very proficient and caring.

He does emphasize aftercare, however is not hardnosed about it, especially when you do not live in Anchorage.

When he first interviewed me, he told me about all the various surgries and problems associated with them.

Surgical competence and bedside manner were both great. I highly recommend Dr. Snyder.

The above statements are my personal experiences, and I can not know what others may or may not experience.

I have met Dr. John Snyder and Robin, his wife/nurse. They are just wonderful people and very careful to make sure I understand everything being told to me. They want to know if I have any questions and will take as long as I need to make sure I get the answers I am searching for.

Dr. Snyder used to do the old stomach stapling proceedure and stopped because he did not like the long term results that the patients were having. When the improved RNY proceedure was developed he wasn't sure that he wanted to be a part of this new technique. Studies just weren't long enough to suggest long term success yet.

Dr. Snyder said that he was forced somewhat into the proceedure when he started having to "fix" so many other surgeons surgeries on Alaskan patients. He said that if he was going to do this surgery then it was going to his surgery and not an emergency botched job by someone else.

He has done many people in the last few years and with great success. I have been fortunate enough to met a few in person and some on the phone. They all have been successful and are very happy with the choice they made.

Dr. Snyder believes his patients should be educated and healthy before going into this. He will not do a surgery on someone with out seeing them several times. He likes to know that our head is in the right place. He wants to know that you are committed to a life long change and that you realize you and he will be together for a long long time.

Over all I am happy with my decision to see him. I have recommended him to others in my area.

My surgeon is Dr. Snyder And my 1st impression was very good he is caring and knows what he is talking about. He was very helpful to explain all the different types of surgery and the risks and benifits of each and then explained why he likes to do the RNY gastric bypass. His staff-Robin is the best, she has been so helpful and aided in the fact that insurance only took 5 days to approve. He request that after surgery you have 3 weeks on liquids and then about a week on soft foods...that way gives staple line lots of time to heal. I also liked the fact that he requires 2-3 visits before your actual surgery date. I am fully trusting Dr. Snyder and am looking forward to having surgery on 8/9/2000
