Yes, patient of Dr Jeff Henke, associate to Dr. Kuhn, who passed away July 2014. Dr Henke was more than I could have asked for in a replacement to Dr. Kuhn. Dr. Henke was professional, humorous, caring and information. His staff was a little bit dinging in some circumstances, there was a mixup of the actual time scheduled for my surgery but we worked through all of it to a positive outcome for a complicated VBG to RNY revision with hiatal hernia repair. I had no complications, released next day, off pain meds within days with drain removal in one week post op. I would recommend Dr. Henke to anyone. Thanks Dr. Henke.

I'm sorry to report that Dr. Kuhn passed away on July 20, 2014. Simply put, he was the best.

His associate, Dr. Henke, is still taking patients as far as I know but I'm sure they are bombarded due to this sudden tragedy. I cannot speak of Dr. Henke as I have never met him.

Dr. Kuhn saved my life more than once. He caught a complication other docs wanted to chalk up to indigestion. If it wasn't for him, i'd be: a) still morbidly obese or b) skinny but wearing a colostomy bag for the rest of my life or c) dead.

Thank you, Dr. Kuhn. I know you are enjoying your well-deserved reward in heaven.

I love Dr.Kuhn he did a wonderful job taking out my gallbladder on 12/01/11 and another wonderful job on my RNY on 03/08/2012. He and his staff are very nice and supportive people!! I started at 540lbs at wls I was 495lbs and today 6mos later I am 424!! I would recommend him to anybody. Choose him and you are in very good hands!!! I had my wls at Medical City Dallas.

Im very happy with the care that Dr.Kuhn has given me. He removed my lap band in January '12, and did my gastric bypass on February 20, 2012. He was very good and has excellent bedside skills. I felt like I was in good hands & his staff is superv! His office staff knows their job in getting you approved for surgery and it was so simple/fast for me. I love Baylor WlS, and would recommend to anyone.

I had Roux-en-Y gastric bypass with Dr. Kuhn in the fall of 2004. I lost 150 pounds, and I have kept 100 of them off for 6 years now. I researched very carefully, and I am very glad that I chose Dr. Kuhn. He was very patient with me and my husband as we babbled on in the initial consult. He was very forthcoming about the procedure, including the risks. I knew that I was in good hands, and I do not regret having the surgery or choosing Dr. Kuhn. My quality of life is vastly improved.
The responsibility for my "bounce" (which is less then some people, more than others, but more than I'd like) is mine alone.

He seems very nice and professional. He came highly recommended by my OB/GYN/Fertility Dr.

I do wish they had a better support system. I am private pay, so I am not sure if that means I missed out on a lot of the counseling since it wasn't required, or not. They have listed a once/month meeting on their website, but that is it.

I'll let you know more as things progress.

UPDATE 12/2/2010

I'm now a year and 3mo post-op and I have not seen my Dr. since the week of my surgery. I'm very unhappy with Dr. Kuhn and have recommeneded several people find other surgeons.

The surgery went very well, but after a few days I began to develop a fever and excrusiating pain in the surgical site. Per all my paperwork I called the office immediately. He was in surgery and couldn't see me until the end of the day. I asked if this was considered an emergency and should I go to the ER or wait until the end of the day. The office staff told me I could go to ER if I wanted to. I told them I didn't want to, but if that's where I should be then I didn't want to wait around the house. They told me it was my decision. When i asked if there was another Dr. or a nurse I could talk to I was told no.

I waited and Dr. Kuhn told me I had developed an infection and sent me home with antibiotics. On the last day of antibiotics I was still developing a fever in the evenings and had tenderness at the incision site. I called his office to see if they could call in more antibiotics. I got no call back and at then end of the day when my pharmacy still hadn't gotten a prescription, I had to call back. I was told Dr. Kuhn refused to give me more anitbiotics. When I asked why, I was told, "He only saw you to be nice, he doesn't really do that. You need to go see your primary care Dr."

That ended up being the last time I ever saw Dr. Kuhn. I had my next follow-up appointment scheduled and his office called to say he'd be in surgery could we reschedule. We'd reschedule, and they called again the day before to reschedule due to surgery. This happened SIX TIMES!!! It became obvious that Kuhn had gotten my money, and was now putting his attention on the new paying customers. He's gotten my money and no longer had time to see me.

I became pregnant 3.5 months post-op and was very scared about mine and the baby's health so soon after surgery. I called to speak to his nutritionist who told me to be sure to take my vitamins and eat plently of protein. Thanks, I'd never thought of that! She also said to get in to see the Dr. right away. Well the soonest they could get me was 1.5 months away, despite my insisting this was urgent. Again though when my appointment came up, amazingly I was called and asked to reschedule. I did try 2 more times, and finally gave up - I know how this game works! I have fianlly had my primary care Dr. handle my labs, as I know I would drop dead before I could ever get Kuhn to see me. (FYI both the baby and I are fine)

These are just my experiences, but I am very unhappy with this man and his follow-up. In all fairness though, I think he is a very skilled surgeon and my surgery went extremely well, but I have not had the aftercare that is so needed after this surgery. I personally would not recommend him to anyone.

Dr. Kuhn was a very pleasant, professional man. He wasvery thorough in explaining my options and types of surgery that were available. His office staff is very professional as well. I will say that I think they do overbook patients, as the wait time has been very long at times. I will have my surery on Set.30th and hope that my opinion doesn't change afterward.

Dr. Kuhn was so warm and sincere. He listened and gave me details about all my options. He was very patient and understanding. He is extremely knowledgeable and he made me comfortable each time we spoke...he never rushed me. The staff is also very kind and most helpful. Yes, he has a very structured aftercare, that also made me feel more at ease. I would rate Dr. Joseph Kuhn a 9 out of 10! These are all my impressions of him and his staff based on my visits there. I would recommend him to my family and friends.

My wife is an RN at Baylor dallas in the Transplant ICU. She used to see alot of GBGB's (gastric bypasses gone bad) in her unit. So she was against the surgery unless I had it by the one Bariatric Surgeon she trusted. Dr Kuhn is the best, his staff is great, they are they whenver you need something, he explains everyting to you answers any of your questions and is a very nice person to boot. He is honestly interested in how you are after surgery, doesnt just cut you and leave, he wants you to have the best experience and life possible.
