After meeting Dr. Kenneth Graniero (after a few re-scheduled appointments made by his office) face to face, I am very confident that I have made the right choice in choosing the best surgeon for this procedure. He answered the few questions I had asked him that I didn't really know about the surgery. The only thing that I thought was somewhat unfair for me during my consultation was the fact that he had been interrupted three times during our 20 minute session. Besides that, I felt very comfortable with him.
My first impression of Dr. Graniero was very funny. Great sense of humor, but also is very serious about doing what you got to do for this surgery. My impression did not change of him at all, at the very least I felt better every time that I continued to see him. Never in a hurry, very informative, and made me feel very confident on my decision to have this done. His staff Karen is very nice, kinda right to the point and very busy.I think future patients should know he doesn't play around with this and you have to be committed. He emphasizes the aftercare tremondously. He says that we will only do as good as we keep informed and keep supportive.THey do have support groups once a month however I would like to see them a little bit more informative. He told me everything that was at risk of doing the procedure, I like to know everything and he made sure he did not hold back.I would rate him excellent and I would highly recommened him to anyone.I think that the go hand in hand because if you don't feel you can talk to your doctor then you will not have overall success! Thanks Dr. Graniero!!!
This is only my opinion, and above all, I do believe Dr G to be a highly skilled surgeon. My original profile was under Janice Zampa. I was offline for a long time and was not able to successfully gain access to my old account here, so this is the reason for the different name on the profile. I got down to the 180's and due to some extenuating circumstances and an addiction to food, I have gotten back up to 220 pounds. I am trying to lose, and am getting a bit flustered. Dr G moved from his practice to Slocum Dickson and they dont take my insurance. Not only has he done my bariatric surgery, but also two hernia repairs also. Now, without warning and no help to find another surgeon, I have noone to go to for support unless I want to drive over an hour to Syracuse. My opinion only....I think that was wrong of him. He should have offered his patients something...even an explanation would have been thoughtful. As I said, I truly believe him to be a highly skilled surgeon, otherwise it wouldnt bother me that I am no longer able to go to him. I can not go to the only other bariatric surgeon in the city as he does not take my insurance as well. Dr G should be allowed to take on his current patients and accept their insurance. Its not like I am a new patient, asking to be added to the list. I just need to get some help after my surgery and he wont be able to provide it.
My wife and I met Dr. Graniero 8/14/06.rnHis NP Karen was very informative and patient regarding questions. The office was extremely comfortable. Dr. Graniero reviewed some of Karen's content, adding more information. He is very friendly, patient, and informative. It's very obvious that he has expertise in his specialty. He is reassuring and there's absolutely no pressure. He's extremely honest regarding the surgery being a weightloss \"tool\" and not an \"easy way out.\"rnAlso, his emphasis on the patient partnership is \"huge.\" He definitely wants his patients to be successful. He is definitely a 10.
My first impression was very positive. He didn't talk down to me, was very informative abou the proceedure and the pre-op expectations. This impression continued with the excepton that when I told him I had a hernia and would like it repaired at the sam time as the WLS, he told me he wouldn't do that because it would just come right back. He also told me that it wouldn't cause any problem since I had had it for awhile. He did not examine me to see where the hernia was even though I said it did cause me problems from time to time. This worried me but not enough to stop the process for pre-op. His ffice staff is great, very welcoming and professional. I think what I liked least about him was he didn't really listen to me when I told him about the hernia. I know my body and I know when something isn't right, he discounted that.rn future poatients should know that he is a very competent surgeon, friendly and likeable, very good bedside manner without being condecending. He is a stern taskmaster when it comes to following the rules, however. He is strong on both pre-op and post op care. I would rate him at 90% mainly because I ended up having to have a a second surgery to repair the hernia, a week after the WLS because the hernia caused a blockage. Other than that , I woud say both his surgical competence and bedside manner are great.
