Dr. Scofield and staff are excellant. My son has down syndrome, trach and still has a bipap setting of 10/5. The compassion and intense concern of the Wish Center saved his live.
She was available 24/7 for any concerns. The aftercare program was remarkable.

I met with Dr. Schofield two weeks prior to my surgery (the previous surgeon had left the practice). I had previously met her at a meeting in Columbus, but only got a chance to talk to her briefly then. When I met with her at my pre-op visit, she explained everything, in detail, to both me and my husband. She definitely cares about her patients. I guess I was very fortunate, because after the surgery (open RNY), I only had some discomfort getting up and down in the bed, but I can honestly say, I felt great!!!. Maybe it was her surgical skills, maybe it was my constitution, I don't know, but I give her all the credit. She definitely emphasize the aftercare program at the Wish Center, and the support group. The staff at Middletown Hospital were FABULOUS. Everyone seemed to care so much. Since we were from out of town, they even got a cot for my husband to sleep on, so he could stay with me. As far as a surgical experience, hospital experience and experience with the staff at the Wish Center, it just could not have been better. I would HIGHLY recommend the Wish Center and Dr. Schofield.

At first I didn't quite know how to talk with her. I was a little nervous with her.

On my second visit I felt more comfortable, and after my surgery I really liked her.

Her office staff is great, they are all friendly and caring.

That is she a very good and caring Doctor.

I was surprised that the Wish Center only has you return after 2 weeks, then 3 months then 1 year. I thought there would be more follow up.

Dr. Schofield explained the risks and I felt as if I was prepared fully.

Two days after my surgery, my heart started beating really fast (between 150-200 beats a minute). The nurses in the hospital called Dr. Schofield and she was at the hospital within an 1/2 hour. She stayed with me during all the tests they ran which took over 3 hours. She was in the cat scan area looking at the results as it was happening. Not too many Doctors would stay there that long, especially the Sunday before Christmas!

I would reccomend her to anyone that is considering having the surgery done.

I have had a wonderful experience with Dr. Shofield. Now I must preface this by stating that I was extremely impressed by the dedicated staff they have aquired at the WISH center in Springboro Ohio. While the wait left a bit to be desired...The personell there sold me on that place before I had even spoken to the surgeon. At first I had met Dr Ranjit Singh. He was very polite and professional, answered all my questions as clearly as possible.. ans was even familiar with many of the hospitals/surgeons I had been researching. It wasn't until my 2nd visit that I met Dr. Shofield. At first I was caught off guard. She could've been my mothers twin. The similarities were amazing. That right there set me at ease. Then, talking to her, hearing how bright she was and how "straight to the point" she was on our questioning proved to me just how seriously she took this job and why I should have no fear being under her care.

She is very adimant about followup care. Has a very strict dietary/exersize regimine that her staff clearly explains to you. Each visit to the WISH center you meet with the Psycologist, Dietician, Exercise Physiologist, nurses and surgeon. Each person works with you to make sure you will have sucess and be prepared for the new you.

They have a support group (that meets whether online or at the hospital) that you join that is there to assist you in each step of your journey. So far I have not been to a meeting, so I cannot voice an opinion on them, but the topics I've been shown are interesting.

My main concern was that there were a few things I didn't understand and was not explained as clearly as I would have liked. As in the Spirometer. I was sent home after watching a short computer training session that mentioned the breathing apperatus, however, I was never told what setting I had to have it on to "practice" pre-surgery. I was never told that, on top of the Spirometer, that the nurses at the hospital would bring in yet another breathing treatment that was MUCH more difficult than what I had been prepared for. I had been told that I would have 5 small incisions... I was not told about the JAckson Pratt drain until just days before surgery and was never told that it would be an additional incision. While it was mostly just slightly uncomfortable, I was concered that I had not been prepared for another set of staples.

All in all I would recommend the WISH center hands down. While there were a few minor instances in which information was not relayed. Nothing that happened was beyond my rational nor did any of it make me doubt myself, my choice or my surgeon.

My first impression of Dr. Schofield was that I thought that she was very nice and very straight forward. She talked firmly and address all of my concerns. I feel very comfortable knowing that she will do the job right. The staff at The Wish Center could not have been more helpful. They are polite and answered any question that I have. If one couldn't anwer it someone else did. I am very comfortable knowing that I am taken care of in every aspect possible.

Dr. Schofield was absolutely amazing. I think that really when you look at bariatric surgeons she is the total package. I could not have asked for an easier recovery. My incision is 4 inches long, and that was an open procedure. I never had any nausea or vomitting. My hospital course was totally uneventful as were my two weeks at home after surgery. I returned to work full time after that without really missing a beat. On top of that, Dr. Schofield was very caring and concerned. I really felt at ease with her and I could tell that although she is quite slender, she is very sensitive to the obese patient. I always feel like I can talk to her about any concerns and she will listen. I never felt like she was unavailable to me. Most importantly though was her knowledge of the surgery. She spent a long time with me each visit, at least 30-40 minutes each time. She explained everything in great detail. She even came to see me before surgery to hold my hand and make sure I didn't have any last minute concerns. Really, the combination of her caring style and the fabulous education I received both before and after surgery by The WISH Center made for an excellent experience overall. I would highly recommend them to anyone considering this.

Dr.Schofield was the best. She answered all of my questions, without pressure and made me feel at ease with the WLS decision I have made. The staff was very pleasant and supportive and it was nice to know the nurse taking care of me had it done and she was a great inspiration!!!!!!!!!!!! I would definetaly recommend anyone who is considering this surgery to do your research and make an appt. at The Wish Center. The before and after care are what impressed me the most. What you have to do to get things together before surgery are a big accomplishment and all of the staff, (psychologist, nutritionist, exercise physiologist, etc...) were awesome. All of my questions were answered. The risks and complications were discussed, and I am ready to move forward with my new life. ****

Dr. Kira Schofield and her associate Dr. Reggie Singh , have relocated their practice in General and Bariatric Surgery to Springboro, Ohio and Middletown Hospital from Springfield, Ohio.

Everything I have to say is positive. I base my evaluation on my past experiences with two other highly regarded general surgeons for breast and hernia surgeries I'd had in the past. They were good surgeons, and I had good outcomes, but I felt like a "number" with them...they didn't even bother to speak to my family following my surgeries...just had surgery staff call to tell them surgery went fine. I felt like Dr. Singh and Schofield's demeanors are much more compatible with the emotional component of the bariatric surgery decision.

The office staff are friendly, warm and caring. Nurse Cyndi is great.

The doctors are very open, very personable, and made me feel immediately at ease. I never felt rushed, or like they didn't have enough time for me.

Dr. Singh is himself a RNY patient, nearly two years post op, so I felt like he could really understand and answer all my concerns with a perspective that few bariatric surgeons possess. He did NOT, however, try to 'talk me into' the surgery or sway my decision...he merely provided information to help me.

Dr. Schofield is reserved but warm and caring and addressed my concerns with empathy.

The new program they have been developing with Middletown Hospital since August 2003 includes psychological, nutrition, exercise and case management support with a registered nurse. There were several pre surgery visits with these professionals, so I felt well prepared for surgery, and that I have a support system in place for structured aftercare to help my journey to good health and 'normal' weight. I will be having post op visits as well, and have phone and pager numbers for any questions I may have. The Bariatric Wellness Center, located at the Remick Blvd YMCA in Sprngboro, Ohio, is the OutPatient component of the program and is geared to help me prepare for and get through surgery, and then to implement the new nutrition and exercise behaviors and lifestyle that will ensure the outcomes I want: good health, and a long, active life!

As far as complications, the doctors not only discussed all the ones I'd read about in my research, but detailed EVERY complication their practice has experienced, even down to a urinary tract infection from catheterization in the hospital. At every visit (3 pre op total) they gave me ample opportunity to ask questions/explore concerns.

Dr. Singh and Dr. Schofield are tops..I had surgery at 9am on a Thursday, was walking the halls with my nurse that evening(my request.) Dr. Schofield discharged me at noon on Saturday. I'm only 5 days post op now, but so far, I think nothing could have improved my experience!

I think a good bariatric surgeon must have BOTH surgical competence and a good bedside manner. I wanted to be a PERSON to them, not just a procedure...and with this practice I feel I am.

After speaking with the very prompt and curteous office staff of Dr. Kira Schofield and Dr. Ranjit Singh, I fairly quickly got an appointment to meet with Dr. Schofield on December 18th, 2003. She was a very professional surgeon whose been in surgery practice since the late 80's. Both her and her colleague work together in the operating room, combining their expertise to ensure the patient's successful surgery. Before you can even get a date for a surgery, you are required to meet with a physical therapist to start an exercise program that will start your new life of wellness well before you have the surgery. The concept behind the exercise is also to improve lung capacity and healing after surgery (which makes sense). Their is also a couple of dietician visits to get you aware of your current eating habits, as well as the important changes you will make after the surgery. It is also required that you make scheduled appointments throughout the year following the surgery. A nurse manager also follows your case and prepares you for outcomes to expect at the hospital. The program is very comprehensive in it's before and after care program. Both the surgeons are very personable and knowledgeable, and the kicker is that Dr. Singh can give you personal insight after having gastric bypass himself in 2002. While it may seem daunting to wait several months from start to finish of this program, it is informative and crucial to a successful overall outcome and change of bad habits. Good luck to all who are looking to have, and to all who have had this surgery.

I attended Dr. Ranjit Singh and Dr. Kira Schofield's WLS seminar on 12/2. I was very impressed with both surgeons. The seminar did not really teach me anything I did not already know about the surgery, but I have researched it for years and have a good understanding of it. But it would be very informational for someone just starting out. What it did allow me was to "interview" them, I felt they were sincere, they just recently moved their practice from Springfield, Ohio to Middletown,Ohio because they wanted to develop a comprehensive program that included pre and post-op care. And Middletown offered them the opportunity to head up their new Briatric Wellness center. Dr. Sanjit has had the Roux-en-Y himself, so he has the advantage of having been both morbidly obese as well as been on the losing side. He understands the emotional and physical aspects of comtemplating surgery. He mentioned in his seminar that the average patient he sees has been researching the surgery for two years before they come to him. I also liked the fact that he and Dr. Schofield are both in the OR at the same time. His theory four eyes are better than two I liked. They have had no deaths and only two minor complications after surgery. I liked that a lot. They do not do 7 surgeries a day like some of the surgeons I have checked out. They do not have a huge number of surgeries under their belt, (just over 140) but they have a lot of surgical experience. Dr. Singh decided to specialize in bariatrics after his own experience with WLS. I think that is a great testimonial, that you liked so well what it was able to do for you, that you want to help others. And he just so happened to have the good fortune of already being a surgeon for many years, and then he kind of found his calling. So to speak.
He requires you do a 6 week, program before surgery that includes Physical Therapy and a two week diet to assess your willingness to be compliant. I am very okay with this. they had a lady there who gave a testimonial, she was about a month post-op and had lost 34 lbs. But she looked great was getting around fine, her scar was healing perfectly. She said she really benefited from the Pysical therapy both pre and post op, because her life was fairly sedentary and she had to move muscles she was not even aware she had! They also have you do some exercises which are supposed to help cut own on the risks of Pulminary embolisms. I have read that too, that if you start even a walking program pre-op your chances of blood clots is lessened. Everything they said falls in line with what I have researched. I am so glad I found them. I asked more questions during the seminar than anyone else, I was the only one who brought a folder and took notes, but I wanted all my questions answered. He even just kept looking at me as if to say "and your next questions is?" but he never, at all, made me feel rushed or that I was taking too much time. It was a most excellent experience. Two thumbs UP!
