My first impression of Dr. Hruska was a good one. She seems very knowledgable about the surgery. I do feel as though I don't know her all that well because both of my previous visits were quick in and out visits. The office staff seemed very friendly and helpful. As far as which is better, surgical competence or bedside manner... I think both are VERY important, but if I had to choose, I'd have to choose surgical competence. I would much rather have a rude but knowledgable surgeon than one that's nice but doesn't know what he or she is doing.

She is a very nice Dr. with a great knowledge of what she is doing. Her office and staff are also great!! She is straight to the point and does a wonderful job. I would recommend her to anyone having this surgery. She goes over everything you need to know and do before surgery. I would rate her a 10.

My first impression of her was....she was very standoffish, but seemed to warm up after she got to know me. Her office staff is very knowledgeable, answeres all my questions. After care is very important to her. She informs you of all the risks with the surgery. I would rate her with an overall rating of "9".... Needs to work on her bedside manner. Could be alittle more happy!!

Dr. Hruska was very Patient and willing to help me get the surgery. I got to know her better and she was more caring. I also realized she was really interested in my health and helping me to become a healthier person. Her office staff was very helpful with any questions or getting a phone call back to me asap. Her nurse, Judy, is the nicest nurse I have ever meet. At my first visit she was very brief with me, but I now know it was just a meeting for insurance approval to get started. She is young but don't let her youth fool you. She is a great surgeon. She is very insistent on after care and making sure if you live a distance away that you can make it for all of your follow up visits. She doesn't really have a structured aftercare for the lap-band that I have noticed. She tells you what she expects from you as far as exercise and eating habits. The risks of the surgery was all addressed in the seminar before my scheduled appointment. I would say on a scale of 1-10 she is a 9.5. I think she realized how much I had researched the surgery and did not she a need in going in a lot of detail with me. She has always answered any questions with excellent knowledge. She has great surgical and bedside manners.

Pleasant and young.

Still pleasant and young, but not the best bed-side manner...seems a bit rushed all the time.

Helpful.

Her "hurried" nature.

She is pretty new to this procedure.

Feels it is extremely important to the success of the surgery.

No.

Death is worst result.

Surgical competence.

What was my impression of her? I thought she was real nice but to the point. She was very direct and answered any questions that I had.
How did your impression change over time? It didn't. I did learn how to pronounce her last name correctly. She explained everything thoughly(sp?)
What do you like least about him/her? Mmmmm, maybe more cheerful? But, she was nice and polite.
What should future paitients know about him/her? They should get their dietary consult, psych consult, and sleep study done before going for consult.
Does he/she have a structured aftercare program? Yes, She has a support group, psychologists, dietician.
How did he/she address the risks of surgery?
She made clear the risks of surgery.
Which is better, surgical competence, bedside manner, or both great? Now, I am post op. I get the impression she is very competent, and her bedside manner is fine with me. She seems hurried but I think she did great and was there to reassure me she would take care of me before my surgery started.

1. What was your impression of her? Well I thought she seemed like a very kind and caring person. She seemed very knowledgeable about what she does. 2. How did your impressino change over time? I have found out that she really does care for her patients and wants the best for us. 3. How would you describe her office staff? Her nurse Judy is absolutely wonderful. She is the sweetest and kindest nurse I think I've ever met. 4. What did you like least about her? I guess just that she had not done a whole lot of the surgeries when she did mine. But she does know what she is doing. And everyone has to start somewhere. 5. What should future patients know about her? Dr. Hruska is a great doctor and will answer all of your questions no matter how stupid you may thing they are. She always stresses the importance of you knowing all the risks associated with the surgery before hand. Afterwards she expects you to follow the plan and do some exercise...walking. 6. How much does she emphasize aftercare? She expects you to come see her like you are supposed to. She stresses how important it is that you take your vitamins like you are supposed to. 7. Does she have a structured aftercare program? I know they have a support group available. 8. How did she address the risks of surgery? She stressed them both times I saw her before surgery. She wants to make sure you totally understand what can happen. She even talked to me about it right before I went into surgery. 9. How would you rate her overall? I would definately recommend Dr. Hruska to other patients. 10. Which is better, surgical competence, bedside manner, or both great? I think both are great. However I did not see her on a couple of the days I was in the hospital. Instead I saw her partner Dr. Steely. He has a good bedside manner, also. On another note....Dr. Hruska was really great to me the morning of surgery. Right before I went in to surgery she came and talked to me. She told me that she would take good care of me and that I would be ok. She also said I could back out anytime I wanted too until they put me to sleep. She seemed to really care about me and how I was feeling since I was so upset right before surgery. I think she is great.

My first impression of Dr. Hruska was wow she's pretty. I found out very quickly that she was also an intelligent professional.
Dr. Hruska office staff are absolutely wonderfull.
She is an excellent surgeon with a great personally and can ease all worries by providing you with the information needed to make the decision thats right for you.
During my first meeting Dr. Hruska informed me of all the risks associated with the surgery.
On a scale of 1 to 10 Dr. Hruska would get a 11.
Both her competence and bedside manner are great.
The above are answers to questions that were asked. I would like to add that had it not been for Dr. Hruska I probably woudn't be alive today. I was at the end of my rope and I was ready to go home. She was a gift from God and She is now and will always be My Hero.
I had my surgery January 9, 2004 and have lost 122 pounds so far.
