Absolutely awesome surgeon. Kind bedside manners, very professional, kindhearted and available whenever you need him. His staff is very well informed and make the process so much easier. I recommend Dr Del Pino to anyone. I assure you will be very satisfied with his services provided. I thank God for bringing me to this physician!

Having weight loss surgery was always on the back of my mind for many years. Well-known celebrities were having it done and it seemed like it was the perfect cure for my obesity. I spoke to different doctors about it, and some told me that there were too many risks involved. They discouraged me from getting it done. Other doctors didn't have the information that I needed to feel safe and certain about choosing them to do it. So, I waited and waited and gained and gained! I was becoming increasingly unhappy with my appearance, but more than anything...I was becoming dreafully fearful of dying at a young age. I went to see a surgeon; the same surgeon who had saved my husband's life a couple of years before when his appendix ruptured. I was certain that he would be the one to save my life as well. I went into his office and the staff was busy just like many offices. They called me in and took my weight. I was embarrassed and made a joke like I always do when I'm feeling uncomfortable. The nurse who weighed me didn't laugh. I assumed she was so into her job that she didn't hear me. I was told to go into another room and wait. I waited patiently for the doctor to come in, and I wondered if I was doing the right thing. I sat there feeling uncomfortable until the doctor came in. He shook my hand and introduced myself. He asked me how I had heard of him. I told him the story about how he saved my husband's life and how now it was my turn to be saved. He didn't find the twist of fate as amusing as I hoped he would. He stated facts, as most doctors do, and filled me in on the different options I had in weight loss surgery. We shook hands again and I left. I did not return. I was turned off to surgery altogether. I told myself that I could do it on my own. I ended up getting pregnant and went up to 275 pounds. I had a miscarriage, but a month and half later, I got pregnant again and gained 27 pounds! I was now weighing 302 pounds. I had my daughter in September of 2008 and got myself on a serious program. I was on maternity leave for two months and actually lost 52 pounds! When I returned to work, I gained 16 pounds. That's when I said that enough was enough! I had a brand new baby girl to take care of and I knew that if I continued my life as it was going, I would die young and leave my precious baby without her mother. I didn't see it as being fair to her. She needed a healthier me, so that's when I decided to try again with my search for a surgeon. I ran into someone who had also struggled with her weight and she was drastically thinner. She told me that Dr. Mario del Pino had performed the Lap Band operation on her. She looked amazing and asked for information about him. I called his office for an appointment. Mercy answered and set up a day and time for me to see him. When I got there, I saw other people walking out of his office that I knew from before and they looked amazing! He walked them out and had a big smile on his face. They were laughing and talking and it seemed like they were old buddies bumping into each other. I heard my name so I walked into the office and Mercy took my weight. Again, in an attempt to draw attention away from the BIG number, I made a joke. Mercy laughed and led me to a smaller room to wait for the doctor to come in. As I sat there waiting for him, I remembered how the nurse at the other doctor's office didn't laugh. I realized that even though offices are busy, you still have to be listened to. Mercy was listening. That was a good sign. I smiled and waited for him to walk in. Once he did, he shook my hand. He asked me how I was doing and we made small talk. He talked to me about my options and actually recommended which one would be best for me based on my eating patterns. He told me about the risks, but made sure to tell me about all the benefits as well. He told me that surgery isn't the cure to obesity like I thought it would be, but he gave me helpful tips to follow after surgery to maintain the weight loss. He assured me that everything would turn out great. With that first meeting, I was certain that he was the doctor! Mercy helped me schedule all of my pre-op appointments. She was so generous with her time and patience. She doesn't make you feel like just another patient. She makes you feel like a person. I had the surgery when my daughter was six months old. In three months, it will have been two years since my surgery. I haven't had a single complication. I have lost 113 pounds and went from a size 22 to a size 6! I have maintained my weight loss by exercising daily...which Dr. Mario del Pino told me to do. I take also take my vitamins daily. Dr. Mario del Pino was the perfect doctor for me. I have recommended him to others and will continue to do so. Thanks to him, I am a much healthier me and can keep up with my daughter!

HI. My name is Rosalinda Guerra. I am 54 years old and live in Rio Grande City. A few years back I was very overweight. I had tried diets, eating less and nothing seemed to be working on me to lose weight. I ran into a dear friend of mine in church and didn’t recognize her. She looked much thinner than the last time I saw her. She said she had gotten the Bariatric Surgery done by DR. MARIO DEL PINO and highly recommended me to go see him. I put an appointment with him and decided to go see him. Not only with my daughter trying to convince me on getting the weight loss surgery, the day of my appointment Dr. Mario Del Pino explained to me with enthusiasm step by step the advantages the weight loss surgery would do for my health. I was very much convinced then.
A year and 2 months ago DR. MARIO DEL PINO performed the weight loss surgery on me at Mission Hospital. Since then I have lost 150 pounds, my body doesn’t get tired, I am medication free, I don’t have high blood pressure, and I look forward to everyday of my life.
DR. MARIO DEL PINO is an awesome doctor. He treats his patients with respect and is there for his patients whenever you have a question or a concern. I am HIGHLY RECOMMENDING for anyone who is interested in getting the weight loss surgery to go see DR. MARIO DEL PINO. I am writing this not only because of my personal experience, but because I would like for Dr. Del Pino to make a difference in your health just like he did in mine.
If you are interested in getting the weight loss surgery, Dr. Del Pino’s office is the right place to go.

My name is Erika Guerra. I personally have not gotten the weight loss surgery, but in October 2009 my mother got the GASTRIC SLEEVE Surgery performed by Dr. Mario Del Pino. I am very proud of this doctor. He did such an awesome job. Ever since my mother got the surgery she has not once complained of hurting from anything. When in reality that’s all she did before the surgery…COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, and COMPLAIN of everything hurting her.
You see, 10 years ago my brother passed away. With the great loss of her son, my mother went into a depression and with no interest in her life she started gaining an enormous amount of weight. She was not only bringing herself down, but was bringing a lot of people that loved her down with her. She was always tired of enjoying life due to the overloaded amount of weight. It really saddened me to see her suffering and I really wanted to do something about it until one of my friends had the weight loss surgery done with Dr. Del Pino and highly recommended my mother to go see him. I am so grateful that she did. Dr. Mario Del Pino has not only done a 360 degree turn on my mother’s life, but a big change on my life as well. My mother is a whole new person after getting the Gastric Sleeve done by Dr. Mario Del Pino. She has lost 150 pounds, is always in a happy mood, goes out more often, spends time with her family, goes to her grandkids t-ball, football and basketball games, feels great and has a very high self -esteem.
I personally got to meet Dr. Mario Del Pino myself since I would take my mother to her appointments. He is a very generous gentleman and is willing to do anything for his patients just like he did with my mother. The day of my moms surgery, I was amazed by the way Dr. Del Pino would go check up on her at all times. That’s when I realized that his patients are very important to him. He is certainly an amazing doctor. I express my thanks to Dr. Del Pino for doing such a wonderful job with my mother and would highly recommend him to anybody interested in getting the weight loss surgery. He is the perfect candidate-doctor to get the weight loss surgery done with.

After discussing all my options with Dr. Mario del Pino, I opted for the Lap-Band procedure. I instantly felt comfortable with his knowledge and experience in bariatric surgery. His respectful and charismatic mannerism also played an important role in my decision. I had my surgery in late August of 2009; I was in and out of the hospital the same day. I was up and walking that same night and full recovery was less than a week. To date I have lost 40 pounds. I’m averaging about 2 pounds a week and have 30 more to meet my goal. And I’m confident I’ll get there soon. I have and will continue to recommend the wonderful Dr. Mario del Pino to all my friends and family.

Dr. Del Pino is very knowledgeable of his craft, after researching him for myself, I'm pretty sure he's "The One" that can help me transform into a new person and let me start a new life...His staff seems to be very knowledgeable of there respected areas, especially Mercedes Flores, I would like to say hats off to her, she has been so helpful and is very prompt in returning phone calls.
