Mark Sawicki Bariatric Surgeon M.D.

He was pressed for time.
I havent seen him again but have heard woundful things about him.
Very kind.
I didnt liked that he was rushed.
YOU KNOW HOW IT CAN BE AT D.R OFFICES I'M SURE IT WAS JUST ONE OF THOSE DAYS.. HE TOLD ME ABOUT WHAT HAD HAPPEN WITH ALL HIS SURGERYS. I HAVE FOUND A LADY WHERE I LIVE THAT HAD HIM 5 YEARS AGO . SHE IS A LIVE AND WELL.ONE THING THAT I DONT UNDERSTAND IS WHY DO THEY BOOK EVERY 15 MIN. THAT TOO CAN STRESS OUT THE D.R. MAYBE IF THEY CHANGE THAT.THE D.R APPOINTMENTS WELL BE NICER..

Dr. Sawicki is very surgery oriented..and interested in assessing your physical and mental condition for surgery. He was very thorough in explaining the benefits and risks of me having this surgery...was very detailed and clear about what complications can arise.
Dr. S. works at UCLA and their bariatric clinic is in the same office as their transplant clinic. The office itself is very very busy, and often no seats are available when you need to wait. The office staff is great, and even tho they are so busy, they have never been short with me in person, on the phone, or via the email. I think they are great.
The doctor's focus is on the physical aspects of this surgery. As he states, he's just 'the plumber'. He refers all nutrition questions to the staff of Nutritionists at UCLA. One visit post op was all that was necessary, then he 'releases' you to your primary care doctor. If you have problems or need Dr. S., he's available and willing, ready, & able to help.
Your aftercare path is in your own hands...they refer you to the nutrition department for you to learn those aspects of your aftercare, and your primary care physician for your physical needs.
I liked Dr. Sawicki's approach...he's one of the very best at being the 'plumber'..and that's what I needed from him. I have a great PCP & Dietician at my regular medical clinic for those needs. When I tried to thank Dr. S. for helping me regain my life, he brushed it off...saying he's the plumber. :-) If I need 'warm fuzzies' about this surgery, I have family & friends. My doc was my doc, and I think he's superb. :-)

My first impression of Dr. Sawicki was that he was very business like. He explained the surgery in detail including the how many he had performed. As we talked he noticed I was a little nervous, but the more we talked the calmer I became. His staff was/is very helpful – Gedion explained all of the pre/post-op requirements so even in my anxious state calmed me down. Dr. Sawicki explained in detail the risks of the surgery – that it is a tool along with good eating habits.

I was nervous about going to my surgical consult. I had heard there was quite a wait at UCLA but my appointment was at 9am and I was in BEFORE 9am! The staff was very nice and professional. Dr. Sawicki was personable but professional. He explained everything, stopped to answer any questions I had. Information had been sent to me ahead of time, including risks of surgery. He went over each one and explained all things, I had a good experience. He appeared to be surgically competent as well as a good bedside manner.

I met with Dr. Sawicki on 9/27/01 at UCLA. The office was so crowded their wasn't anywhere to sit. I waited for about 35 minutes before the nurse came to get me and weigh me, take by blood pressure, and temp. He placed me in a room and I preceded to wait 30 minutes more for Dr. Sawicki. Once he came in he was personable and confident. He asked me questions about my general health and did a physical exam. He went away for another 25 minutes and then came in to tell me that I definitely am a candidate for wls. He explained the procedures and told me he has never lost a patient. That made me feel pretty good. So overall I was happy with him!!His office staff are Gideon and Kimberly and they were great no matter how many times I called. This is a very busy office so be patient.

The surgery went well and he is an amazing surgeon! This time everything went smooth, I even got called in early. I did not have to wait at all it was so wonderful. My first visit must have been a bad day. Even on my follow up everything was on time if not early. The hospital was nice and the nurses were very pleassant. My Dr. came in twice while I was there, this was a shock for me because I was told I would not see while I was there. All in all things could not have been better, I am very pleased with my whole experiance.
My first impression of Dr. Sawicki was clouded by the fact that I had waited three plus hours to see him, so I was some what upset by then. As the consult went on it became clear that he is a very understanding man. Joyce is a sweet heart, she made the wait go a lot smoother. If I had a choice I don't think I would go to UCLA, they are very over booked! Is that because they are very good at what they do? The staff made it very clear that this is a team effort, I must follow the plan if I want to make this surgery a success for life. That scared me some because if I could diet for life I would not be in this situation. Over all I left the office not sure what to do. I was not sold 100% on surgery, not because I was not impressed by Dr. Sawicki but more my own second thoughts about such a drastic move.
