All I can say about Dr Bertha, Josephine and Sid (insurance and scheduling)...is WOW, what a great team of people, and everyone else that I came into contact with at the office so far have been wonderful. They have this down to a science and are so nice, efficient and professional, but figure they gotta be something special....took me from my first call to surgery date.....approx 6 weeks total and that includes getting my insurance approved...went to seminar on 5/28, surgery scheduled for 7/12, again....WOW

Dr. Bertha seemed extrememly knowledgable about the surgery. I am very well educated on the procedure and did not have a lot of questions for him. He came highly recommended from a friend.
I wish I had been better prepared with at least some questions. I was just so nervous and excited. My suggestion - come up with something to ask - even if it seems silly!

I thought Dr. Bertha was kind and very knowledgable. I like everything about him and his associates. Any questions I had were answered honestly and to the point. I went to him initially due to his experience and surgical record. His bedside manner is just as wonderful. His office staff is VERY helpful and his insurance people are VERY QUICK and right on the ball.I would recommend him to anyone!!!! The only problem for me was it is far for me to drive. (aprox. 1 hour and 40 min.) I wanted the best though, so its worth it.

My first impression of Dr.Bertha was a good one. The first thing he said to me was are you nervous, dont be and immediatly put me at ease. His office staff was great. you cant always speak to the person you need but if you leave a message they always call you back.
Dr Bertha went over everything with me and stressed aftercare. I have to lose weight before my surgery, but he didnt just say lose weight he explained why.
His preop class was fantastick I just cant say enough about it. It totaly prepares you for the surgery.my surgery is scheduled for Feb 15 Ill update this after that.
After my surgery my impression hasnt changed. Dr Bertha and Dr Pupkova both came to see me before my surgery and to see if I had any last minute questions. Their bedside manner and surgical competence are both great. I would rate them a 10 out of 10.

My first impression of Dr. Bertha was positive. He seemed personable and answered questions from the pre-op meeting clearly and concisely. Two other surgeons from his group were also in attendance and seemed as knowledgable and direct.
Since my surgery, and two post-op visits, my opinion has not changed. Dr. Bertha takes time with you and answers all questions/concerns.
The office staff is friendly and courteous, they seem well organized. I have never waited more than about 10 minutes to be seen.
Dr. Bertha and his staff truly emphasize aftercare and follow-up with support groups for lap-band, as well as RNY.
Risks of surgery were addressed frankly and concisely.
I would rate Dr. Bertha very highly, and would not hesitate to recommend him to others.

I met him 2 1/2 years ago when he came out of surgery to tell that my sister had done fine with her surgery and then at the seminar that starts everything going when I had finally made my decision.
When I finally did meet him in his office I liked him very much. I was very comfortable with him. He struck me as very knowlegeable and caring.
His office staff also seemed very caring and knowledgeable.
There was nothing that we did not like. In the beginning he was a little canned, but that disappeared very quickly.
If future patients decide to use him I think they can put any doubts out of their heads.
He is very adamant about paying attention to detail. I told him that I ate something that was not on his prescribed nutritional plan and believe me I won't do that again.
Yes, his office consists of an on-staff nutritionist and psychiatrist.
Dr. Bertha addressed the risks rather extensively and made sure that you understood very well.
I would rate him as an excellent doctor very well-versed in his profession.
I haven't found anything that I haven't liked.

Dr. Bertha was very nice. He was very understanding and explained everything to me. The office staff there is so warm, they always make you feel at easy and relaxed there. The distance is far, just under a 2 hour drive there, but well worth it. He is very big on support groups for the surgery. He explains everything he wants you to do before, douring and after the surgery... down to the letter. He addresses all of the pros and cons of the surgery and made the decision for the RNY with me and not for me. If i had to rate him on a scale of 1-10 he and his staff would be a 12. Both competence and bedside manner are important and he deffinately has both.

First impression of Him? hummmm? Well, there was some commotion in the office the day of my visit, but from what I overheard ... He's the man for the Job. He sounded Very Very commited to Excellence. Staff seemed nice. He took the time to explain EVERY detail of the whole operation. And He answered EVERY question I had in detail. I've only had that one visit. With time I'll tell You more about Him and His staff.
12-03-2004 This is going 100MPH ... OMG (Oh My God) ... in the blink of an eye, Dr Bertha and his staff have got me on the Operating table on Dec 6th. Talk about commitment to their patients, these folks try REAL hard. I Understand that I have to put of my time and effort also, because this is a TEAM effort and once you join Advanced Laparoscopy's team ... Get ready to play hard. As of today I have ONLY good things to say about Dr Bertha and His staff at Advanced Laparoscopy.
He does keep reinforcing the fact that this is a Life changing decision and You have to be ready for a Lifetime of aftercare, and Always knowing that as long as you follow the rules You'll be just fine. I Would definitely recommend Advanced Laparoscopy to anyone even just considering GBS. Go to a Seminar and LEARN. P.S. They Need a bigger waiting room.
