I am very impressed with Dr. Norman Samuels and his entire staff. I have made the correct decision to go with him for my surgery at Vencor Hospital. Medically the man is brilliant and socially he has a wonderful bedside manner. I have contacted MANY of his patients and they have nothing but great things to say about him. Now, I am in G-d hands...!I think Dr. Samuels is the best for the "job"...He and his staff have a very structured after care program and he is open in respect to risks of surgery. He is a take charge surgeon with only your best interest at heart. I will update you often after my surgery.. MY SURGERY IS SCHEDULED 24TH OF JULY. He and his staff are on the ball in everyway...and that is what matters to me!!
My surgery was July 24th 2001 with Dr. Norman Samuels. THERE IS NO FINER SURGEON!! Please feel free to contact me if you wish to ask any questions about Dr. Samuels. Besides being a fine gentleman, G-d has given him a special gift as a surgeon. I hope all of you who have had conferences with him will have the surgery with him. Kim O. recommended that I see Dr. Samuels and she was so right. Take Care and Lots of good wishes to all of you. I will update frequently!
Thank you Dr. Samuels I lost 41 pounds in a month and am off 5 medications and a CPAP machine.
When I called Dr. Samuels around August 24th, I was really worried about my incision, he got right on the phone and discussed things with me, made me feel better and that was what I really needed in a physician. I have told my family Dr. Thomas that he may wish to start refering his Obesity Weight loss surgery patients to Dr. Samuels. He said if he has patients that are interested in surgey that he will have them call me and I can give them Dr. Samuels information and where to contact them.

First impression: Really short, friendly
Impression change: Still friendly, but VERY firm about his ideas and does not have the best bedside manner.
Office Staff: All very nice
Like least about him: Lack of bedside manner
What should future patients know about him: Make sure you are out of your bed before he does his rounds everyday
After care is of the utmost importance
Very structured aftercare program
Dr. addresses the risks at length
Over he is a nice man with a genuine concern for the morbidly obese
While it is nice for a surgeon to have a bedside manner, it is much more important for him to be skilled surgically.

The frist time I met Dr. Samuels. I was very impressed he took time to sit with about seven people and explain just what is it that he does. The pro's and the con's the good and the bad he spoke about the aftercare how important it is to keep all appointments so in case anything ever goes wrong they will be ready. He than answered all types of question for over one and half hours. His staff is just as nice one of nurses had the WLS and she talked to me and showed me her pictures. She also told me what to eat and what not to eat what to drink what to expect. When I left there I felt as if I had known them or years. Overall I think Dr. Samuels is
AWESOME!!!!!!!!

Awsome DR... I recommend him to anyone!!
Office staff was more then helpful!!
There really wasn't anything "least" likeing about him..
More Info found here on him... www.surgeryforobesity.com
When I started out I met a lady from Fort Lauderdale on the internet... she used this DR.. I inquired about this with insurance.. and with Primary Dr... He was the first Dr I came across so that's why I used him.. Of course I did check out him and the office.

I investigated the idea of WLS for a year and a half before finally deciding to go through with it. I spoke to 3 DR.s offices in the area and in one case, the staff was beligerant and short with me when I asked for information. That elimiated one then I found out that Dr. Samuels had the most experience with WLS by several years. I looked at the possiblilty of having the laparoscopic RNY as well. When I went to the office for Dr. Samuels, I was thoroughly impressed with the program they presented. Not just the video which was very discriptive about the surgery itself but the chance to speak to the doctor in person. There were three prospective patients in a small group and he spent nearly an hour answering questions.
The support system he has in effect, a dietician, a psychologist and Physicians assistant made me well informed of the process that was to take place as well as a way to avoid pitfalls that others have had.
I have noticed that his "tough" attitude towards the need to get up and move is what made all the difference for my speedy recovery.

Hi. My initial visit with Dr. Norman Samuels
was on June 18, 2001, in Ft. Lauderdale. There were about
7 other people going through this very informative session with me.
We filled out some forms, then watched a short film made by Dr. Samuels.
It explained the pros and cons of bariatric surgery. After the film we had a group
question and answer session with Dr. Samuels.
After this we were given private physicals and got to speak with the Dr. individually.
I was very impressed with the wealth of information I learned from this one visit.
Dr. Samuels is very thorough, taking his time to explain the whole procedure, start to finish.
My only complaint, if you can call it that, is the session took about 4 hours. But, like I mentioned, he is very thorough, making sure you understand the entire procedure. He and his staff are with you every step of the process, both
before and after the surgery. They also have on hand counselors and dieticians
who work with you before and after. Overall, I would rate Dr.
Samuels and his staff very highly. He has both
surgical competence and bedside manners.

Dr. Samuels and his staff are just wonderful. I am thrilled I had the sugery.
His aftercare and support meetings are great. Sitting in his office for my monthly visit is just like another support meeting. It is wonderful meeting other people who have had the surgery, or even supporting those thinking of having the surgery.

Dr. Samuels was a no nonsense straight to the point surgeon. Very thorough. Gives complete details and not afraid to tell you the risks as well as the benefits.
The office staff was FANTASTIC. They took care of all the finances and insurance issues. Fortunately I was "approved" on the first attempt. I had AETNA insurance through Sony Electronics.
I would recommend Dr. Samuels to anyone that is considering having this surgery done. Aftercare for the first year is recommended and they have monthly support meetings at a local hospital here.
Yes the risks were discussed in detail.
Both Dr. Samuels surgical competence and beside manner were great. I felf very confident in him and his staff.
