I had the group consult on 1/18/01 with Dr Waits. I was very impressed with both him and his staff. Karen and Nancy were great. I feel I am in excellent hands. Dr Macik is Dr Wait's new associate. He will be doing my surgery on July 3, 2001 at Northside Hospital. I will not get to meet him until my pre-op visit on June 26, but according to all of his patient's, he is absoutely wonderful!

4-14-01 Dr. Macik and his staff is wonderful. I could not be more pleased with my sugery or how my hospital stay went. In fact my scar looks great. He is a wonderful doctor and I thank God for bringing him to Dr. Waits practice.

4-3-01 Got my official date today and I am schedulded for May 2 with Dr. Waits new collegue Dr. Macik. I could not be more impressed with the offices staff. They really go above and beyond for us all.

4-2-01 Got my approval from Aetna today. Dr. Waits office has been great and put up with all my phone calls. Determined as I am I am blessed to have the BEST surgeon and staff in Atlanta! What more can you ask for?

4-13-01 What a great time it was meeting Dr. Macik at the support group last night! He seem so real and knowledgable answering any and all questions "even the tough ones". His demeanor was so comforting not like many physicians that have that "GOD" complex he really listened to us and I appreciate that. He was not in a rush in fact brought his daughter along. A family man I like that.

1/15/01--I've spoken with Dr. Waits' office staff---they seem REAL nice. I have my initial consultation on 2/6/01. UPDATE--I had my initial consult today and I love this doctor. His staff is great. He could have gone into more detail, but he was tired (he had an unplanned surgery today) and I totally understand that. I am confident that all my questions will be answered as I go along. Most were answered tonight. 4/20/01--I will be using Dr. Macik--he is an associate of Dr. Waits. I haven't met him, but I have heard great things about him. I feel that if Dr. Waits has faith in him, then so do I.

I felt just right when I came into his office. Karen, his receptionist is so wonderful.

Dr. Waits was great, he not only talked to me but also included my husband in the conversation. This relieved us both.

I also contacted one of his patients after reviewing her profile. Her name is CAROL FORD and she has agreed to be my angel. Isn't that fab?

Update--I will be operated on by Dr. Waits' assistant surgeon, Dr. Masik. I have met him and he is impressive. He brought his daughter to a support group meeting which means he is a family man. I like that.

My surgeon is Dr. Macik and he's with Dr. Waits' practice and was recently certified for gastric bypass surgery. Dr. Macik has been assisting Dr. Waits for the past year with all the RYN open surgeries and he has been a general surgeon for many many years. Unfortunately, I have not had the opportunity to meet him yet. I have met Dr. Waits and he and his staff have reassured me that Dr. Macik is an excellent surgeon--I trust Dr. Waits and his staff. Dr. Waits has a long list of credentials and has been doing the surgery since 1983. He's an "old hat" at it by now. I have been attending the support group he recommended for the past two months and those meetings have been a world of help. I plan to continue attending the support groups for years after my surgery. I would like to be involved in the meetings and help other patients who are beginning their journey. Dr. Waits office is SO organized--everyone there knows exactly what to do from his office manager to his nurses to Dr. Waits himself. I feel fortunate to live in a metropolitan area like Atlanta because I think I have a great choice of surgeons to choose from. I found Dr. Waits listed under the Bariatric Society and he also has a website at webMD. Another reason I chose Dr. Waits was because he accepts my PPO insurance.

Last week I met Dr. Paul E. Macik, the doctor that Dr. Edward Waits just added to his practice in March, 2000 and the man who will be my surgeon. He is a board certified general surgeon who has been in practice for 13 years. He received bariatric surgery training/certification about a year ago. He is very nice and very patient. I felt very confident with his manner and he answered all my questions -- he took all the time I needed to put me at ease.

Nancy, Dr. Waits wife who is also his office nurse, had a class last week for a group of people with upcoming surgery dates to go over various surgery prep details. She is very knowledgeable and helpful.

I met Dr. Waits on January 15, 2001...two days ago. He really is a nice man. He explained everything to me alone, and then had a group discussion with all the new appointments he had for that day. He passed out a booklet of information on the surgery, listened and answered any questions anyone had. He put me at ease.

I hope my insurance does not take long before they give me an answer. I already called them...I am anxious! However, they have not received anything for me yet. I am hoping to be one of those "approved in a week" people. Take care.

I like Dr. Waits a lot. He recently got another surgeon on board, Dr. Paul Macik. I am scheduled for surgery on April 9 with Dr. Macik. I will finally meet him on Tuesday, April 2. I have only heard great things about him and know that Dr. Waits would only have a good surgeon working with him anyway.
