My surgeon was essentially assigned to me by the Center for Weight Loss Surgery at Methodist Hospital. I didn't meet with several different people or try to "interview" them. I was so immediately comfortable with Dr S's record and qualifications, that I didn't much care if he was a nice guy, or a jerk or anywhere in between. I wanted a competent surgeon, not someone to have coffee with. As a result...I got just that. A competent surgeon, whom I've not so much as spoken to or waved to since I was in the hospital for my surgery. His office has entirely outgrown itself and isn't really as supportive post-operatively as I might like. People on here talk about calling their surgeon, and touching base with their surgeon, etc...and I feel like at best I'd be bothering mine, and at worst, be completely ignored. All structure for aftercare were provided, the patients of this practice are just very much on their own. In saying that though, I must admit that I haven't attended a support group meeting. I decided to start my own instead! :)

I met with Dr. Stanish today. Seems like a really great guy. His office seemed really busy; I believe that's a good thing. His staff seemed pleasant. All of his information listed on this website is out of date. I questioned him about his experience and was very happy with his answers. He did talk about the risks of surgery, but I didn't have too many questions because of the great pre-op classes that his center has. He told me of the importance of going to support groups. He made sure I was aware that I may lose some weight without trying, but if I want to lose it all, it will take exercise and hard work for life. I am excited to have him as my surgeon.

I tend to be very outgoing, forward and sometimes comedic, so the first time I met Dr. Stanish I thought maybe he was a little dry.
During this same meeting, my husband thought he was GREAT. He thought he was very knowledgable, serious and to the point. He really thought I had definitely made the right choice for a surgeon.
I chose Dr. Stanish, because I wanted the head of the department to do my RNY. I was very worried about 8 previous abdominal surgeries including 4 C-Sections, gallbladder, hernia repairs, etc. and the scar tissue that could be involved.
My husband assured me I had made the right choice.
HE WAS RIGHT!
Dr. Stanish is great when you get to know him.
I am in my 6th week and have seen him in the office 3 times. He makes me feel very comfortable and I feel he is a friend.
He is not dry at all. I think he is just a professional and maybe a little guarded in the beginning until he gets to know you. I think our personalities meshed well.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DR. Paul Stanish.

Dr. Stanish has, so far, been a very professional and informative. He spends time wiht you and doesn't make you feel like you've taken a number to a meat market that just wants to give you what you want and move on. His staff is great. They have been helpful, kind and cheerful. Maybe I haven't been there on a bad day yet. But they always seem cheerful. Well, his secretary lacks a bit. Espically with her information on subjects she isn't qualified to answer, but that's just my opinion. Dr. Stanish seems to have a good feel for what your fears are and takes time to put them at ease. He won't even discuss a surgery date with you until you complete all four classes at the weight loss center. He wants you educated first. Then he wants you to make sure of your decision and choice of surgery. Then he discusses the surgery and helps prepare you. The weight loss center and support group provided at the Methodist Southlake Campus is the best. They really make you think about it and understand exactly what your getting into before, during and after surgery. They tell you straight up. I like honesty and all of them give it to you... straight up.

stanish I really thought was concerned about my health! my 1 st impress is still the same the office staff is very friendly.I think stanish should smile more.do what your suppous to do cause hell know if you dont.after care is very important must follow up!Stanish tells you that all the time.yes you fellow up with Donna and Dr. Stanish every 6 weeks.told me straight up all the different things that could happen.I rate Dr. Stanish above a 10 I think hes great!!!Both are great! I was alittle disapointant when Stanish couldnt do the operation the first time he opened me up thought whats up with that cant he do this but than after he explained everything to me and was very caring that made me feel much better.

When I first heard of the lap band. I thought that would be something i would be interest in to help with my weight problem. I talked to my doctor and she refered me to Dr. Standish. I made an appointment to talk with him about the different surgeries.his office staff was nice and friendly i really like good professional people that acknowledge your present. The wait in the waiting room was kind of long, but that was ok beause i wanted the same attend the person before me was getting. When I did make it to the back, Dr. Standish came in. I was a little nervous, but he made me feel comfortable, he asked me some question, and asked if i had any question? He didn't rush, he took his time an informed me of the different surgeries and the risk and complication, and what insurance companies are willing to pay for and lap band was not one because insurance company says it is experimental, but i didn't want the rouxen y my mind was only focused on the lap band. He also informed me that I need more document regarding attempted weight loss. That was my first visit.
My second vist 12/2004 went well Dr. Standish is a kind, and caring physician i really like him. No matter how full his waiting room is he don't rush you he takes his time an explain everything clearly. i recv'd a surgery date a month and one week out, after talking to Dr. I was able to get an appointment in 3 weeks 12/27/04 is my surgery date.

He was very nice and knew his "stuff" really good. At first my impression was that he was "cocky" but the second time I went in it was just that he knew what he was talking about and he confident. He explained everything and did'nt hold anything back, straighfoward. Staff is nice/helpful. Everything was on the table as far as risks and surgery. I would go back if had to pick again. My dad said the billing stuff in the office is a pain as far as the insurance but I guess its not on the insurance end the office's end. His surgical competence is great.
