Extremly professional. Very nice and freindly. (he is not there to make friends) He has not changed.Suzy his nurse is so sweet and Gloria the front office staff is Very friendly and some staff members have had the surgery so it is nice to come in and chat with them. The others girls are just as nice. my take on life is "YOU GET WHAT YOU GIVE" He seems to care about his patience. He is very professional and takes care of the business at hand. The after care is good so far and everyone is very professional and gives you alot of information. Take them up on anything they offer it will help you in the long run. My surgeon sent me to class on the surgery and the nutrionist are very informed and really explain things well.My Doctor he kick ass as far as I am concerned and gets the job done. He has surgical competence. My scare looks great compared to people that have not had the opportunity to go through Dr Richman. Beside manner does not even come close to surgical competence. I dont need a friend I need a surgeon. All in all my husband said that was way cool came out and talk to him and made him feel good and told him I was doing really well and I must admit if he wasn't who he is which is a awesome surgeon I probably would'nt be here. So my hat goes off to doc Richman he is the man! I know GOD is first but Dr Richman also knows what he is doing. I hope that people start to give him the credit he deserves cause if it wasnt for him they would not be as happy as they are now in there new bodies. "yes I know my spelling sucks" Take care people I would totally tell people to go to him and remember "YOU GET WHAT YOU GIVE"

He seemed knowledgeable and experienced.
His bedside manner could use some help, he could have been kinder in the hospital. I was in so much pain and he was not very kind. His nurse is a witch with a terrible personality. Get more information on the the so called pain management because that is a joke. He has been kinder during the aftercare and I just feel better, so that helps. Yes, the program is fine. He did address the risks of surgery. I would rate him 85% overall. He just needs to work on the bedside manner after surgery in the hospital. His surgical competence is great.

My first impression of Dr. Richman was to understand why he is a surgeon. He started right in to explain the surgery itself, what he would be doing, the risks and how long I would be out of work. Having been a patient of Facey Medical Group for nearly 30 years, and my internist of many years there having recommended him (he is the only Facey surgeon performing this operation at this time), I felt confident of his competence. As a person, as I said, he is suited to be a surgeon, as he is certainly not a "people person", so don't expect a bubbly personality. Surgical competence is certainly more important than bedside manner. I don't care if he has NO personality as long as he cuts and sews well. I will have more to say after my surgery, I am sure, which is scheduled for 5/21/03. P.S. I learned a lot about this surgery from this website and its contributors. I also learned a lot thru my own research and the experience of an acquaintance who had the surgery a couple years ago. As a result, Dr. Richman really did not tell me much about the surgery that I did not already know, and he did tell me a lot.

2/6/04 -- My surgery was about 8 1/2 months ago. Since then I have lost over 70 lbs., which is not as much as some people lose in this amount of time, but since I did not have over 100 lbs. to lose at the time I had the surgery, it is quite satisfying to me. I have seen Dr. Richman regularly since my surgery, most recently in January, prior to that in October, and he has been very good to me. I don't have to see him again until July, which will be 14 months after my surgery. I really like him a lot. In spite of what he told me to eat and not to eat early on, I did what I shouldn't have done anyway and paid for it big time. The first three months were hell. Most foods tasted like something between sawdust and dirt, but Dr. Richman said that this surgery can temporarily mess up your taste buds, and boy did it! Since then, things have settled down and I can now pretty much eat whatever I want, including cereal, sugards, bread and pasta, but not much of it and I certainly know when I've had enough. I still cannot drink with a meal or for about an hour before or after, but I'm getting used to that. This has really been quite an experience and while I don't recommend it to anyone as a magic pill, it was the best answer for me and my long history of weight loss failure.

My first impression of him was good. He was very clear and informative. A lot iof things I knew because of my research, so it was good to hear it from him also. He answered all of my questions and was very willing to listen. He told me exactly what he would do before and after the surgery. He also layed out all the risks and also told me what he has come across in his experience. i guess the only draw back os that he does not do Lap.

My first impression of Dr. Richman was good. He was kind and took his time with me. I had a list of questions and when he was done with what he had I was able to ask away and he did not make me feel rushed. His nurse was seemed very nice for what time I was with her. I can't think of anything I didn't like about him. He really went over the risks of surgery to make sure that I really understood them and that I was okay with everything. The only thing that I would have liked more would have been to the procedure done as a lap instead of open, but he is not comfortable to do it that way and I was glad that he was open to talking about that. He advised me that if for any reason I was not comfortable with the procedure that I should hold off on the surgery until I was totally sure one way or the other, which I am totally sure about going forward. Overall I liked the he spent the time to explain the procedure, after care, risks and benefits. I would hope that everyone would have the same experience.

Met with the surgeon for the first time yesterday. He seamed very nice and easy to work with. However I did not feel he was up on all the lasted techniques. He went into great detail of the surgery and the pros and cons. I feel he went into more detail with me than most because he had to show he knew more than I did, thanks to all the information I have found on this page. I guess that is what you get with a general surgeon through an HMO. At least there is no out of pocket cost. He was very encouraging and feels there should be no problem with an approval. Maybe begining or mid November for the surgery date.

He was a typical surgeon I guess. Doing his job, didnt really have much expression. I guess it was the best I could ask for with a HMO. His receptionist/nurse was sympathetic that was nice. He himself overall was okay. Did his job, and he was nice. But as far as aftercare, it hasnt been so great. I havent seen him at all for it. After the bypass, a month later he had to take my gallbladder out and I saw him once after that and that was back in January.
