Phillip G Alston Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr Alston was a great Dr. but unfortunately I am having problems 15 years post-op. Does anyone know if there is a surgeon that maybe took on his patients? I have not had any luck finding another surgeon to help me, especially since my surgery was does open and so long ago. Thank you in advance for any help.

I had the surgery in 1995, surgery was successful I lost over 150 pds. I moved from TN to MO, unfortunatly I did not keep up my annual visits with Dr. Alston..Sorry to hear that he retired, he is a great physician. Does anyone know which physician took over his patients. Im trying to locate my medical records and am not having any luck...Any suggestions?

I'm an OLD TIMER, as I had a Gastroplastyrnin 1990, and Dr. G. Philip Alston was my surgeon. I would NOT be alive today if itrnwere not for him. My surgeon (and my surgical procedure) werernGodsends, and with all the health issues thatrnI had in 89 and 90, I KNOW I would havernalready died had I not had the procedurernand the care and concern of Dr. Phil and Dr.rnJames and their staff.rnI have completely lost track of Dr. Phil, rnand I have heard that he is not well now, rnand that he is not practicing medicine at all, but I desperatelyrnwant to contact him by mail to express tornhim my undying gratitude and admiration. I amrnnow retired from my job, and I have sincerntaken over the care of my parents who arern78 and 79, and even my Grandmother whornis 95! We as a family have had many problems this past year...my Mother fellrnand broke her back, my Dad had to havernsome questionable polyps removed from hisrncolon, my Brother-in-Law had a totalrnbowel obstruction, but because I am stillrnhealthy, I have been able to get ALL of myrnfamily members to the various appointments,rnx-rays, surgeries, MRIs etc, and had it not been for Dr. Phil, NONE of this would have been possible. Dr. Phil is a fine Christian manrnand physician, and I know in my heart thatrnGod led me to his practice those many years ago. If ANY of you know how I could contact him, PLEASE let me know, as I owe himrnmy sincerest heartfelt thanks for these additional years he has given to me.rnThank you in advance, and God bless!rn(I have literally hit a \"stone wall\" in findingrnan address on him...)rnrnAs an addendum, yes, I have \"slipped\"rna bit, and I do need to take off the rn25 pounds that have come back after thernprocedure in 1990, but I know I can do that, rnand I work out in a water aerobics class threerntimes each week to keep myself going.rnOf course, all the years of the extra weightrntook their toll on my body, so I have lotsrnof arthritis problems, and even Fibromyalgia, rnbut the water aerobics keeps me up and going, and I do this for myself! I feel thatrnI am worth it! I have NEVER even for ONErnminute regretted having had the procedure!rnNEVER!rnrnIf I can be of any help to any of you, pleaserndo not hesitate to ask me. I've always feltrnthat since God found a way to save me, thenrnI owe that same knowledge to others to helprnthem as well. I've never been ashamed of having had the procedure, and while therernare some people who did the same thing,rn and some of them truly deny having had thernsurgery...Hey, I'm proud I did, and I'm evenrnmore proud that I'm still alive because of it!rnAny day that I wake up on THIS side of therndirt is a GREAT day! If I wake up andrncan physically GET UP, then that's even better!

I reserved my first impression until I saw what I was getting into. He was a kind supportive soul who was accustomed to the emotional ups & downs that women experience when they have a Obesity problem. His staff was the best. I had a really good experience with my WLS overall & personally. I'm afraid if I go to far it may give people a false since of security, since I know others who did not fare so well. But let me say this. Isaw the surgery as a tool to be used & I followed the guidelines
People I know who had problems post surgery did not. You can not eat til you get full & not worry about it because "You will just throw it up" That train of thought is very damaging to your new digestive tract and the numbers you see on the scale.
His office staff did a wonderful job of informing me of what to expect & then reinforcing my confidence in the doctor & my decision.

He was and has been until he retired last year a gental caring, funny man. he was the best doctor I could have chose. He was always willing to give me as much time as I needed and I never left his office or the hospital with any questions or worries about anything.
He and his great staff helped me through something I never thought would mean so much to me, a new look on life.
As far as what I liked least about him,... other then he had to retire there is nothing I would have changed about him or my surgery.
Thank you for my life (anew) Dr. Alston.

Dr. Alston is/was absolutely fantastic on first impression. My inpression of him never changed except for the better each time I went into the office. His staff was nice, pleasant and helpful. I had no dislikes at any time. Unfortunately Dr. Alston has retired for medical reasons so there will be no future patients. His emphasis on aftercare was so critical along with following all the guidelines post surgery (ie. meds, exercise, eating). No he did not have an aftercare program. Dr. Alston did address all risks of surgery and that there is no guarantee of a specific weight loss, each person is an individual and is different in each persons weight loss. Surgical competence and bedside manner are both important and he had it all! Words cannot express my love, devotion and how I could ever rate him. He is beyond my dreams of a faithful christian doctor who truly cared. I miss him terribly but wish him nothing but the best in his life of retirement.

He was very well inform of the procedure. I had mix feeling from do it to not to
He has a wonderful staff friendly and warm. I loved my surgeon Well the sad news is that he is no longer in practice he has retired. He really adv you on how you need to take care of yourself an the best way to maintain you weightloss and goal.

Where do I start? I had heard about Dr. Alston for many years as a close friend of mine took the journey to the losing side. She always said how wonderful he and his staff were and she was right. Dr. Alston's staff has been patient with me through my many phone calls and faxes. Dr. Alston was pleasant and patient and really took the time to explain everything to my husband and myself. He is strict and serious though about losing weight before surgery. I don't quite get that part but it must be a necessary evil.....

I had my first visit with Dr.Alston yesterday and everything went well. Dr. Alston and his staff were wonderful. The office visit is very long so be prepared to stay at least 4hrs. After meeting with Dr. Alston, I am satisfied with him. I didn't have that uncertain feeling. He talks in great detail about the surgery and gets to know his patient. I like that. Took time to answer all my questions and didn't mind answering question about himself. So, now I am waiting on insurance approval. While in his office some of his previous patients were coming in for follow up visits and they look great. talked to some of them and they all had positive comments and said they would do it again in a heart beat. Also got tips on eating and how to make different drinks after surgery.
Well I went for the first part of my med's today 12/16/03. Had alot done--ultrasound, drank that barrium for your xray of your digestive system. oh and the treadmill, please don't let me forget that(um).
