Other Clinical Experience
Dr. Robert O’Rourke, Assistant Professor of Surgery at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) was the first surgeon in Oregon to perform the StomaphyX procedure, and is actively recruiting patients for this novel endoscopic therapy for obese patients. Dr O’Rourke has been involved in research in the development phase of StomphyX, and is a pioneer of endoscopic therapy for morbid obesity. StomaphyX procedures do not involve any incision of tissue – either on the abdomen (outside) or around the organs (inside the patient). This new technology is endoscopy-based and therefore does not require another operation, but rather an upper endoscopy which is a day procedure. “StomaphyX provides a low-risk, ultra-minimally invasive alternative to standard surgical procedures in obese patients who have lost suboptimal amounts of weight after standard bariatric procedures. This is a potential revolution in the field of bariatric surgery”, according to Dr O’Rourke.
