Wow, where do start the man is a Rock Star. He helped me save my life. He is always available when you have questions. He tells you clearly what to expect and let's you know what you need to do to be successful. I was 407 lbs when I started my pre-op preparation. He encouraged me to work on loosing as much weight as I could before surgery to make sure my surgery went smoothly. Now almost 3 years later after loosing a total of 234lbs I have only gained back 15lbs and have maintained ever since. I now know what to do and how to live a healthy lifestyle. Thank you sir fir helping me save my life. God bless
Randy

DR. O'Rourke was very professional. Very no nonsense. He made sure I understood the seriousness of the surgery and sacred the dickens out of me pre-surgery. Which was a good thing, I lost 30 lbs just to make the surgery go easier. It went great! the more weight you loose before the better your surgery will go. Dr. O'Rourke and his crack team at OHSU did a great job. I would recommend him to anyone interested in RNY. I am 3 days out of surgery and I am feeling better every day.

I have not met my surgeon yet, pre-op is November 2, 2009 and husband is flying in to attend with me. I have been to the OHSU bariatric office a few times and love, love, love all the people I have come across so far. I will update this more in early November.

Dr O'rourke was a professional. He came in. He did outline the surgery and told us all the risks. I heard somewhere in that day that if something comes up, he likes to be called. rnrnrnI had my surgery on a Friday and though there were residents there. He was there through the weekend. Came to check on my roomate who also had surgery that day and me once a day on a weekend. rnrnHe knew is stuff and he was able to get a very good anethiesiologist for me. I had to be intubated awake and the anethesiologist got me through that beautifully. rnrnEight days out and no complications to speak of.

Dr. O'Rourke has very kind eyes, who I believe genuinely cares about the health and safety of his patients. He seems very comprehensive and I trust him for this surgery. He is making sure that I am using my C-PAP machine and encouraging me to continue to watch what I eat pre-surgery. He addressed all the risks, and told me what I needed to pay attention to.rnI honestly don't have anything bad to say. But what I thought was really funny about Dr. O'Rourke was that when he had something very important to say, he would inhale and purse his lips. It was quite funny and I get a chuckle out of it.

Great surgeon. Bed side manner is a bit less then friendly but I would do it all over again in a minute.

Dr. O'Rourke is pretty much all business, but he is kind and listens to what you have to say. He is required to explain the risks of surgery to both the patient and their family, and I have to admit he scared my sister pretty well. She asked him if there was anything GOOD he could say about the surgery! He then explained that while he had to tell us about the risks, his complication rate is low and that he did believe I would do well with the procedure. He is a very skilled surgeon. I had to wait in a long queue to have him perform my surgery, but I'm glad I waited. I have had no complications whatsoever and am very happy with my results.rnrnThe staff at OHSU Digestive Health are great. They return calls quickly, answer any questions you have professionally, and make you feel welcomed when you visit. OHSU is a teaching/research facility, so not only do you have the doctor following up on your care, but you may participate in a number of research studies. I am currently in three, so I know they will be keeping close tabs on my diet, exercise, emotional, and physical well-being. I would recommend OHSU to anyone wanting to have weight loss surgery.

Dr. O'Rourke was courteous and informative. He spent time answering our endless questions and was very friendly. rnrnThe office staff and support clinical personnel have also been very friendly and helpful. Late into my process I changed my mind about what procedure I wanted. They got right on it and helped me do what I needed to get approval for the Lap-Band.rnrnThis program really emphasizes aftercare and offer many opportunities to participate in studies. The aftercare program isn't structured other than requiring regular visits to the office for follow up. They do make sure you know what resources are available though.rnrnDr. O'Rourke was very clear about the risks of my chosen surgery. He told me what he felt my risks were specifically and what the risks are statistically. rnrnOverall Dr. O'Rourke and his office are great. Dr. O'Rourke seems to have a great bedside manner and I have confidence that he is competent surgically as well.

First impression: excellent, sensitive, professional, knows his stuff.rnVery big emphasis on aftercare and doing a lifelong follow-up to assure maximum health and well-being.rnVery knowledgeable about his own complication rate, factors affecting post-op morbidity and mortality, etc.
