Robert Read Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Read is wonderful. He is compassionate and knowledgeable and I appreciate his approach. When I have an appointment with him he sits next to me and looks me in the eye, he is respectful and always willing to talk to me and answer questions. I never feel rushed or like he has something else he needs to run off to and I really value that. He is relaxed and casual and just seems to me like a really cool person. The office staff is awesome too, Greg is always there to answer questions and never makes me feel like I calling for something silly. I called quite a few times in the beginning and was never made to feel bad about that, in fact, it was encouraged. The dieticians are great (I really miss Kelleigh though!) and helped me a lot pre WLS.
A great program. I told Dr. Read he can never retire! (Update Oct 2013 - the worst has happened! Dr Read has left this program but is still at Samaritan and doing surgery there. But, Dr Yarbrough is still there and is also very nice)

Dr. Read is amazing. He is likr a rock star to us WLS patients. So, I guess you can see that I am not the only one who feels he is just a wonderful surgeon with a sweet attitude and warm bedside manor. What a nice all around great guy. Those of us who have had him do our RNY's are very fortunate. He is highly skilled and his staff is above and beyond superb!

Dr. Read is totally not what you expect but so cool! He knows his stuff and he is very kind but honest. The program in Corvallis is supposed to be one of the best on the west coast. There is a lot you have to do before surgery but it only helps you after. Susanne the program director is very sweet and helps you a TON! I can always call her! The program has a 24/7 help line and monthly support group meetings that help a lot. All the risks are explained in detail and if you have anything that could event be a tiny bit of a problem they check it out ahead of time. It's a great program!

My husband and I were really impressed by Dr. Read when we attended the Informational Meeting he conducted. We found him to be upfront with everything about the surgery. But, what really sold us was his approach to WLS - a life long program and committed to helping each individual patient. He did not give us the impression that he was so far above us little people, but very down to earth.

Dr. Read has a pony tail (gray) and is good at making eye contact and shaking hands. I really trusted him when I went in to surgery which I think is really important.rnrnThis program does have a aftercare program which I think is very important. I think when I was dealing with Dr. Read he was very open and honest about the risks. I would reccomend him he did a good job with me.rnrnWe did have one issue come up and I think it is because the surgery before me ran way over so I was almost 2 hours late getting into surgery but no one ever came and told my support person that I was out of surgery. So she had to wait and worry for hours. There was also apparently some mix up about the waiting room she was supposed to be in. I was fine and did well but that was a horrible worrisome time for her and my family to go through.

I am in the pre-surgery stages and have met with Dr. Read. I think that the Samaritan Bariatric Program is the best in the state. I really appreciate their approach and \"recipe\" for success. Their attention to detail, and special care with each patient sure makes me feel good about choosing this program.rnrnDenise (front desk) is always so encouraging, and helpful! She's been great about getting me scheduled for all of my appt's and keeping me on track.rnrnSusan (program coordinator) is great to work with, she's understanding, encouraging, a great listener and there to answer any/all of your questions. She keeps you aware of each stage you are in and what is coming next. She's also quite funny!rnrnDr. Read (surgeon) is hilarious, informative, and really sets you at ease. I suffer from white coat hypertension ;) and he definately made me feel alot more comfortable as he went through the process and answered any questions I had about before, during and after. I am confident in choosing him.rnrnDr. Carol Sillars (psychologist) is a wonderful therapist. She's been great to discuss the emotional aspects of this surgery, both before and after, and am looking forward to continuing my sessions with her to ensure success!rnrnSupport Group- I have only attended one support group but have met many people on OH from my area that have had their surgery done by Dr. Read, and again, to reiterate, have only heard wonderful things!

Dr Read and the Samaritan Bariatric Team (Susan, Bobbie, Kim, Denise) have been fantastic to work with. The orientation programs (open forum/general information, Dr Read's presentation of the procedure/risks/etc) are well organized and provide repeated opportunities for anyone's questions to be answered. The office staff is always available for questions, no matter how random, and respond to phone messages promptly. The program has a very strong emphasis on after care including annual (and obviously more frequent in the first year) labs and follow-ups, nutritional counsel, and monthly support group meetings. My only frustration has been delays and late running appointments... Dr Read tends to get pulled in many directions between two offices and in-hospital duties and his appointment schedule tends to feel that strain. Dr Read is not going to mince words with you... you will get the straight story with no hesitation to lay it on the line... so be prepared to be held accountable for your part of this process... ultimately it will be all about your discipline and he is going to make sure that you know everything possible before he cuts you loose.
