Dr. Shapiro seems to be really nice.
he seems to really care about you as a person . Dr Shapiro really knows what he is doing. He tells you like it is. Karen has been great, she can ansewer most of you questions or if you need help with any thing you can count on her. I've only meet Tommie 1 time. she seems to be really outgoing, which makes the process a lot easier.

Dr. Shapiro has a fantastic group of people working
on his team. Everyone was kind and informative and
available. His team seems to cover everything from
the psychological to the personal to the medical, of course.
Dr. Shapiro's bedside manner is brief and to the
point, however his staff make up for the personal side.

THE FIRST IMPRESSION I RECEIVED OF DR SHAPIRO WAS OVERALL GOOD, I THOUGHT HE WAS VERY SINCERE AND VERY INTELLIGENT. HIS STAFF IS AWESOME-TOMMY AND KAREN HAVE BEEN LIFE SAVERS, IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS THEY RETURN YOUR CALLS RIGHT AWAY, AND THEY WILL WORK YOU IN IF NEEDED. DR SHAPIRO EVEN LIKES KIDS-AND HE TELLS YOU LIKE IT IS. HE IS VERY CONCERNED ABOUT YOUR AFTER CARE, AND ABSOLUTELY WANTS YOU TO FOLLOW DIRECTIONS. HE HAS A VERY STRICT AFTERCARE PROGRAM. HE ALSO WAS VERY SPECIFIC ON ADDRESSING ALL OF THE RISKS INVOLVED WITH THE SURGERY. I WOULD SAY HIS SURGICAL COMPETENCE IS BETTER THAN HIS BEDSIDE MANNER THOUGH...HE IS VERY TO THE POINT.

I went to his introductory seminar. He provided lots of good information answered everyones questions. He seems to be all right. His assistant was very emthusiastic and helpful. He was kind of distant I thought.

Dr Shapiro is a good surgeon. He is only
one of few that are certified in the bariatric
surgery.

I have not met him yet, Have heard and read good things tho.update### I have seen him now twice. He is very thourough and professional. he wants to make sure you are aware of risks, today I saw him for my final consult. he put me at ease just because I trust his self confident air.He has performed this surgery many many times. I will rate him after surgery.10\2. His nurse Karen is a 10!!

My first impression of Dr. Shapiro is that he believes very much in the service he provides. He took a personal interest in me and answered all of my questions in detail. He is very amiable and confident. I feel comfortable entrusting him with my life. I asked if he required the patient to lose weight before surgery, He smiled and said, "If you could lose the weight, you would have. I put no such pressure on you."

His Program Coordinator, Karen, is top-notch. She is a joy to work with and always makes you feel like you are the only patient in the world. Couldn't ask for better!!!

I have heard that the aftercare program is wonderful but that Dr. Shapiro comes across very clinical rather than showing an engaging bedside manner. I've seen the man laugh and feel confident I can make him laugh again. Now if he can just get past me calling him "Dr. Bob"!

He is a very conservative person,he is very good at what he does, his staff is very freindly,Barb his nurse is a very sweet person,i liked everything about him but he is very soft spoken.really hard to understand sometimes, he knows what he is talking about,go to alot of programs for support, i'm not really sure if he has a structured aftercare program, yes he tells you up front hte risk of surgery,he is a very good Dr.,both are great bedside manner and surgical competence

I first met Dr. Shapiro back in December of 2000 when I attended his informational meeting. I found his meeting to be very informational and felt comfortable asking questions. I have since met with him again, on July 21, 2001. He is a very "matter of fact" Doctor. He tells it like it is. He is the first Dr. I have had that has not made me feel ashamed of my weight. He made sure that I was clearly aware of the risks involved with this surgery and also aware of the benifits. I feel I am in good hands and that my surgery (Aug. 21, 2001) will be the beginning of a better life.

I first heard of Dr. Shapiro from a former patient of his, who had had this surgery 4 1/2 years ago. She spoke glowingly of the care she received...both pre and post op. My family doctor also confirmed this. Kim (Dr. Shapiro's former patient) was also enthusiastic about his staff...and the hospital care she received. I heard Dr. Shapiro speak at his seminar in February...and concluded I would be in excellent hands with this group. His assistant, Karen, has been so warm and caring, each time I've spoken with her. They seem to have this procedure "down to a science". Soon...I'll have my pre-op tests scheduled...and meet with Dr. Shapiro on a one-to-one basis. I'm truly looking forward to this.

I met with Dr. Shapiro for the first time this afternoon. He asked a good many questions (many of which I'd answered in my medical history)...and I had several I'd written down to ask him. I felt assured that I was in very skilled hands. His staff..especially his assistant, Karen, have been just "the best". Extremely friendly,... helpful...and very prompt in returning calls. No question is too "unimportant" to answer. You are definitely given the impression that you are "not just a patient...but an individual person" as well.
