02/04/15-I have not met my doctor yet...but I have talked with his nurse...Diana...and she is really nice. I will post more when I get to meet the doctor in Sept. I chose Dr H because I did not want to go through the incredibly long waits to see a surgeon here in BC and then wait an equally long time to receive a surgery date (in BC I was looking at a 2-3 year wait/ in Alberta with Dr H I am looking at less than a year long wait to be finished with surgery!)

02/10/17 - I have now met Dr H and found him to be wonderful. Kind hearted and filled with sincere concern for the health of the obese! He is a treasure...his entire team is awesome and I had a great time at my visit...Dr H took great care to address any concerns, and gave me plenty of time to ask any questions....I was very impressed and can't wait to see him again in December for my surgery! Future patients should know that Dr H is planning on retiring in a very few years...that is the only disappointing item...I hope he finds a replacement soon! I did not get to meet Diana so have no comments on that part. A negative to the visit is that the consult take two days but only about an hour or soo a day and it was a long way to come for such short appointments....but we did it...

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about both my surgeon, Dr. Hollingsworth, and the staff in his office and the nursing staff.

Everyone was very helpful and most everyone from the receptionist in admitting to the nursing staff had a story to relate regarding the surgery and results.

When I first met Dr. Hollingsworth, I was very intimidated by him. That quickly changed as I realized the he is a very warm and caring individual who does this because he cares about people.
His office staff Dianna and Tracy are very friendly and they make you feel comfortable and right at home. Although they are crazy busy. They have a good program and are extremely competent and knowledgable aboult weight loss surgery. Teh first thing they tell you is that the risk of your obesity must be greater than the risk of surgery. Then you get to meet George the respitory tech. He is awsome. I wonder if he tells the same jokes to everyone, he is pretty comical. And last, but definately not least the internist Dr. Hunt. This is the man that must ok the surgery, he makes sure you are well enough to make it through. After seeing him its smoothe sailing. Then you wait to hear from the OR nuses with a date for surgery.

I like Dr. Hollingsworth right off the bat. My impression of him only grew after I had my surgery. The staff in his office are very helpful. Future patients should know that you are immediately made to feel comfortable by both the Doctor and his staff. You are provided with a lot of information regarding after care and the video you view prior to your surgery can answer a lot questions. I would recommend anyone to Dr. Hollingsworth's clinic. The nursing staff were fantastic and never made me feel like I was being a complainer.

I had heard a lot of glowing reports about Dr.Hollingsworth, and after meeting him I'm just as impressed as everyone else! From the moment I walked into his office I felt comfortable. He listened to me, and as he went over the procedure and what I could expect, he was very patient and encouraged me to ask all the questions I wanted.

My esteem of Dr. Hollingsworth increases every time I deal with him. He was wonderful while I was in hospital, doing everything he could to make me feel at ease both pre- and post-op. He visited me every day, and was so pleased with my progress that he released me a day early.

My VBG scar is a thing of beauty - a more-or-less thin line straight up my middle, with no raised bits or hypertrophic sections. He says it's due as much to my fortunate genetics as to his skill.

I got a gelcap stuck in my stoma on September 13, and after 24 hours of vomiting every 10 minutes, his nurse called me on her day off to tell me to rush to Cardston for an emergency endoscope. Again, Dr. H. and his staff were very caring and sympathetic, and they saw to it that I was treated very quickly. At my 3-month check-up in November, he was very pleased with weight loss and eating/exercise habits. And again, I felt that he had all day to chat if I required it.

If all I need is a panniculectomy after I've reached my goal weight, you can bet I'll have Dr. H. do it. He is truly a hero to many, many WLS patients.

Dr. Hollingsworth is a caring, meticulous practitioner. He puts his patients' safety first, as was evidenced by his referral of one consult to another surgeon due to the complications she presented.

He's quiet, unassuming, and passionate about his work. He cares about every patient, and wants 100% success for every one.

Dr. H's staff are equally caring, from his receptionist to his nurse, to the respiratory tech and the internist. They are dedicated to the care of their bariatric patients.

There isn't anything about Dr. Hollingsworth I don't like. He appreiates all questions, and answers them in a concise, clear manner without being condescending. He made me feel like he had absolutely all day to talk to me if I needed it. He likes that the Internet has provided so many people with so much information, but he recognizes that it also can teach patients the answers he WANTS to hear. He can spot insincerity a mile away.

He's up front about complications, and is very direct about his opinion of not following the rules.

Overall, I'd rate him as outstanding. I'm still pre-op by 3 days, so I can't speak to his surgical competence just yet. Ask me in two weeks!

Dr. Hollingsworth was just as everyone had described - kind, warmhearted, and sincere. I spent about an hour with him during my consultation. He was very patient with me and my husband, as we asked him all kinds of questions. The staff was also top notch. All in all, a wonderful experience as far as the consultation goes.

I will have to go back down the day before my surgery for more tests. All of the aftercare of surgery will be explained in more detail at that point.

Overall, I would rate Dr. H. as a 10+.

Dr. H truly CARES about his patients in a way that goes beyond simple good doctoring. He is almost 'grandfatherly' to most of us (called 'The Hollingsworth Honeys' by some) and I personally felt his warmth from the first moment I looked into his eyes and he took me by the hand.

Diana & Tracy are wonderful, though kept constantly busy by the demands of Dr. H's popularity. Diana is the program co-ordinator at Cardston hospital, but she was also my OR nurse and I couldn't have asked for better attention from any of the hospital staff (many of whom have HAD the surgery themselves so bring a special empathy to their work).

Follow up care is stressed by Dr. H and attending post-op appts at 3 mos, 6 mos, 1 yr, and annually thereafter is part of the contract patients make with Dr. H. He and his staff are 100% there for his patients post-op, no matter how far out! Dr. H also requires participation in the Bariatric Registry.

Before the initial meeting with Dr. H your regular dr should send him a letter of referal. After Diana receives the referral, a package will be sent to you which outlines the pre-op tests you will need to bring to your consult. Also in the package is a video tape of Dr. H explaining his background, the surgery, the risks, the requirements, aftercare - just everything! I rate Dr. H a 10 out of 10 on all possible criteria - I cannot think of a single negative thing to say.

Dr. H, unfortunetly for those who will need drs like him in the future, will be retiring in 2004 - at this time there is no dr training with him or anticipated. This is a tragedy as the VBG is what enables the Cardston hospital to stay open to ALL medical problems (not just WLS).

Dr Hollingsworth has to be the nicest MD I have ever encountered. I was the bad person in our relationship and never followed up after my VBG and I have bore the consequences. Now 4 years later I have reconnected with Dr Hollingsworth and he has been just awesome and non judgmental.
