I had my surgery in Canada (I am Canadian), and so had no difficulty with insurance dilemmas that most Americans endure. The Doctor was very kind and informative, he has been doing the procedure (Vertical Banded Gastroplasty) for 20 years, and his staff are all previous patients. They were moderately helpful, but, I found it to be a little of a cattle herding experience. Dr. Hollingsworth is a very kind and patient man. He takes his time with his patients, answers all of your questions and has a wonderful bedside manner. He made me feel very well cared for. The most valuable experience was speaking to other patients (either pre or post op) about their feelings, experiences, hopes and fears. There was virtually no psychological testing, and no real information given on how much of a battle it would still be. We can have our stomachs altered, but, our brains are still that of compulsive overeaters. There was virtually no after care, and it was next to impossible to get phone calls returned, if we had concerns. Thankfully, I found a group of people who had had the surgery, and they were a wonderful source of information and support. I was shocked at how little nutritional information was supplied to us, and I still struggle trying to find the proper balance. The surgery was not the end all and be all, it was simply a tool, and a tool which I have to work everyday.

I have now met with Dr Hollingsworth and I truly have nothing but positive things to say ... he is an extremely nice and honest man , I am very trusting of him and his staff , I have never met so many friendly people as I did over my two day stay in cardston , my mom joined me and after meeting Dr Hollingsworth and his staff has decided that this surgery is exactly what I need , we both Have full faith in Dr Hollingsworth's capabilities . the hospital is very very clean . He is also adiment about his patients having fallow ups 3,6 and 12 months after surgery . My only concern was why would such a surgeon be located in such a far away small town ? I asked him this and he answered " because I like it here" and proceeded to tell me that his patients will come to him so why not live in the place he loves ? this also to me was a great answer , it showed me just how real and honest he is . I will not hesitate for a second when refering him to someone else .

After I drove 6 hours to Cardston and had a nervous night sleep, I went for my Consult with Dr. H and his team of wonderful assistants. Traci was warm and friendly and handled my paperwork with ease. George was wonderful and patient with the respiratory work and the Internist was open and friendly with his checkup. Meeting Dr. Hollingsworth was great. Upon entering his office I declared I had heard so much about him that I just wanted to give him a hug. He replies, "why don't you then!". She I did and we got on with the "interview" of sorts. He is caring, warm and charming. He truly is the "angel in disguise" that others have discribed him as. He declared that I was an excellent candidate and we carried on from there. Wonderful experience.

Dr. Hollingsworth, or as we loving call him, Dr. H. is a wonderful, caring man. I got an excellent report of him before I even met him from patients of his. Meeting him was like meeting a fatherly person. He took the time to answer all my questions and encouraged my husband to ask as well. His office staff is professional, knowledgeable, and very helpful. I can call Diana, his nurse, and Tracey and ask anything I need to or just get some reassurance that everything is ok. Cardston Hospital also has a great dietition whom I can call anytime with food questions. She works closely with all of Dr. H's patients. He stresses post op visits as very important!!! We see him at 3, 6, 1 yr and annual visits after that for a period of 5 years at least. He also performs any reconstructive surgery we may need like the panniculectomy (covered by Alberta Health Care) and breast implants (not covered by AHC). He is very upfront on our responsibility on making this surgery work and over all he is A-ONE!!!!! The entire team and staff at this hospital is FANTASTIC!

Dr. Hollingsworth is an incredible human being.
His staff is top notch and really care about you as a person.
He sends out a video that explains the procedure and all the possible negatives and positives.
You must meet him for a very detailed pre-op consult where he decides whether you are a candidate for the surgery.
You meet with a respitory tech, the surgeon and an internist before you are given the approval. You also have to have numerous blood test, e.k.g. and a chest x-ray. Dr. Hollingsworth is very thorough.
He stresses the importence of after care and the follow up appointments that you must attend. You must also join the Bariatric Registry.
I am looking forward to having this procedure done, I trust this man with my life.

The surgeon I have chosen is Dr John Hollingsworth. In my opinion, he is the best. I have yet to have a question unanswered! The process was made very fast and easy for me and he looks at us all as individuals...not stats. I would highly recommend him at this stage of the process.

Good impression of surgeon but along way from home to get to consultation. Treated well by his team. He really wants pt.s to have a successful future and has a stong followup plan. Watched a video that was mailed with an extensive questionaire. Will update when i have had the surgery.
