Walid Abawi Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

My first impression with Dr. Abawi was that he was very fast. I don't think I was in his office for more than 20 minutes. He basically talked the whole time. I had all my papers about the surgery with me and my list of questions. I didn't get to ask any of them, because he answered them before I could ask them. He did tell me about the risks involved and what he expects from the patient. It is only a tool and it is up to the patient to be just that...patient, and listen to all the medical suggestions. My second consult was better, he seemed less irritated. I guess that he sees alot of patients and doesn't want his time wasted. I totally respect that. I have a surgery date, and Dr. Abawi's secretary is wonderful. She is very helpful and very kind. I will rate Dr. Abawi on his bedside manner after the surgery. I have no hesitations what so ever on his surgical competence. I believe that I will be in good hands.

Hello everyone,
i have been trying to get an appointment with a surgeon for months. my family doctor referred me to one. but they still have not called. so by chance i call dr.abawi's office for information and the secretary gives me an appointment without a consult from my family physician.how strange....so, i have an appointment with him may 1,2003. it is about 4 hours away from me but i don't mind really.will keep you up to date....

Dr. Abawi is straight to the point, he comes accrss as very knowledgable, but he also makes sure that you are aware of everything and understand. It was only my first consult, I will be able to tell you more after I have my second consult.
well I had my second consult with Dr. Abawi...he was very surprised that I had all my pre-op stuff done for him so fast...I still stand with what I said the first time about him...and feel very comfident with him as my surgeon.

I liked Dr Abowi. he was open and listened to me and my concerns. I liked his staff especially his secretary... she was very helpful.just ask what ever u want to know about.... i need to ask more about the after care part im right now abit apprehensious about it now since its so close.he addressed it.... "its not a pretty surgery... but he will do whatever he can do to make it a good experisnce. very understanding.ill have to wait about the surgical competence but i liked his bedside manner.

My surgeon was wonderful, I had done alot of research on the procedure and he was ready and willing to answer questions that still remained. He came highly recommended by health care professionals. I actually had another surgeon in mind, but some health care professionals that I know advised me NOT to go to the other surgeon and to go to the one I have. My impression did not change, someone from up above was looking out for me when I was told about him.
His office staff were excellent.
During and right after the operation, my surgeon and staff were very supportive.
I was in the hospital for 7 days, and he came in to see me every day except for sunday.
The only problem I had so far was with the morphine, that gave me migraines and hot flashes when I was in the hospital, but my surgeon quickly changed me to demerol when I complained. After the 4th day I went off all pain medications.
He is very upbeat and looks forward to seeing me at a smaller size.
I am only two weeks post op, so I will let you know how aftercare goes. He really stresses sticking to the diet plan and exercise.
I would rate him so far as a 9 out of 10. Surgical competence is 10/10 and bedside manner 9/10.
