I debated on this surgery for several years. Unfortunately my insurance did not cover it. I began to plan and save and check prices in my area. By far the partnership Dr. Westmoreland has with Tennova in Shelbyville was the best choice. You CAN NOT beat the price for an exceptional surgeon and the great care you get at the facility. I had the gastric sleeve surgery. I am down 44 pounds in 2 months. Dr. Westmoreland genuinely cares for my health and weight loss progress. He was amazing! I have had no hunger, no sickness, no pain, no indigestion, no constipation or anything else. I feel great!! I would recommend Dr. Westmoreland and Tennova Healthcare to anyone. My only regret is not doing this years ago!

I was not an obese child, teenager, or young adult. However, after having two children I couldn’t gain control of my eating habits. Choosing junk food, carbs, fried or fast food, and little to no exercise was too easy. No matter what diet I tried I would always fail. My weight continued to soar. By age 41, I was over 350 lbs, diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure. Thankfully, a friend invited me to join her to a seminar about gastric bypass surgery. Hearing Dr. Rich talk about the possibility of being off medication immediately sealed the deal! I choose the self pay option for gastric sleeve, and I will never regret it. My A1C went from 8.7 to 5.5 in less than a month. My life has been blessed & changed forever due to the care received from Dr. Westmoreland and his staff. The hospital stay (St. Thomas Springfield, TN) was the best I’ve ever encountered! The follow up visits with Dr. Westmoreland have been uplifting & full of information. The aftercare support group offered is the best! It’s truly amazing I can say Jesus saved my life when He died for my sins. How awesome is it that I can also say Dr. Westmoreland saved my life when he took out part of my stomach?!? I would recommend Dr. Westmoreland & his staff to anyone in TN or the surrounding area who needs a supportive, caring, knowledgeable surgeon.

I started my weight loss journey miles away from Dr Westmoreland with another surgeon. Something didn't feel right with the surgeon I was seeing. After researching Dr Westmoreland, I attended a seminar and knew he was the one that I would choose. On the day of the surgery my parents drove me to the hospital. My stepfather, while he was supportive questioned my choice of hospitals due to the distance from home. I said "It's the surgeon, he was an obvious choice". As my parents set on the couch in the pre-op room, Dr Westmoreland entered the room. He asked me if I was sure I wanted to do the procedure twice. I replied "I'm all in". Then he spoke the most beautiful bedside prayer I've ever heard. I looked up and my stepfather (27 years in the military was in tears). He said that's the first time in my life I've seen a doctor pray with a patient. I looked at my stepfather and he replied "I see you why you choose him". Oddly enough, I don't feel like I choose him, God did. Surgery was a breeze and I'm 3 weeks into recovery and doing great. Dr. Westmorelands office has been in contact with me several times not including the follow up visit. If you're considering this surgery I highly recommend at least attending one of Dr. Westmoreland's seminars. He is an amazingly grounded caring surgeon!

My surgery was 7/28/16.. the whole process took 3 months to coordinate. I needed VSG so much but BCBS FL would not pay. I researched well over a year my options because I knew I had to pay out of pocket. Mexico was not an option at all!! I found a company that does financing and I talked with the people at Dr Westmoreland's office on many occasions. Everyone is extremely professional, courteous and full of knowledge. I got all my pretesting done and a date was set! I'm from FL so my daughter and I drove up to TN 2 days prior to surgery to get pretests done and preregistration. The day of surgery went extremely smoothly .. other than preop nerves! Surgery went well,he prayed for me and him for no complications. I was in my room by 12, I got myself up and walked by 3, showered by 4 and had a great night in the hospital. I am a nurse so I know what's expected of pts! I was back at my hotel Friday morning and felt so good we drove back to FL Saturday morning. I've gone for my 3 month post op check up and did fine. I'm now 4.5 months out and today I weighed 179!! I started at 252. I go see him again in January and can't wait to see how much weight I've lost. I highly recommend the Dr. and his practice!

I had VSG by Dr. Westmoreland on yesterday 07/14/16. I am very pleased with my results thus far. I feel great, my incisions look great. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Westmoreland & his staff especially Susan. He is a Christian man of Great Faith, which meant a lot to me & my husband. He Prayed with us before & after the procedure. The staff at Tennova Healthcare in Shelbyville, TN were awesome, very friendly. Dr. Westmoreland has a self pay negotiated fee between him & the hospital for $12k which includes one full year of follow-up. This is way cheaper than going to Mexico paying for travel expenses etc... Stay in the US and check out Dr. Westmoreland of Murfreesboro, TN.... He is the Best!!!

DON'T GO TO MEXICO FOR SURGERY
I had surgery for revision from Lap Band to Gastric Sleeve on May 12, 2016. All went well and I was impressed with the Program.
Dr. Westermoreland (Murfreesboro Surgical Specilists) has a self-pay deal w Lenova hospital in Shelbyville, TN and can help you at Mexico prices right here in the USA. There ar many reasons for working with Dr. Westermoreland's group as opposed to Mexico (convenience, follow-up, known skill level, and great people.
Dr Westermoreland's skills are well documented in reviews and his caring and professionalism is second to none.
Check it out. You won't be disappointed

I had my surgery on April 15, 2015. For roughly 15 years prior, I had been diagnosed with Depression, Anxiety Disorder, and Severe Panic Disorder with Agoraphobia. Walking to the end of my driveway to get the mail was out of the question. I hid away from the world to avoid the embarrassment of the inevitable panic attacks that came when I was among strangers. I struggled in any scenario where someone might look at me. It was completely ridiculous and it stole a huge part of life from me. No more...

I met with Dr. Westmoreland several times before surgery. Every time he saw me, I was either mid or between panic attacks. Instead of ignoring it, he always sat down, held my hand and talked to me about my issues while offering the most compassionate spiritual advice. I won't lie. At first, I wasn't a believer but he has done so much more for me than perform my gastric sleeve procedure. He gave me a miracle.

i had probably 5 panic attacks the morning of my surgery. I was even hyperventilating when they rolled me into the OR. All I remember is that they immediately put the mask over my face and I woke up in recovery. That would be my last panic attack. I'm done. I'm better. I go outside virtually every day. I work out at the gym 5 days a week. I do the household grocery shopping again. I can put gas in my own car. I am the mower of our lawn even! Oh, and I've been out to dinner several times too! There's just too much to list. Bottom line is: I have my life back.

So, what happened? Was I really just that far inside of my own head that all I needed was hope? Did God send me a miracle through this amazing doctor? He is certainly a worthy vessel, but me as a recipient? It all boggles the mind, but I have taken this miracle and I'm running with it. I am so very grateful to Dr. Westmoreland and he will always remain a special part of the life he helped me get back.

Ok. I know there are more people than just me who their insurance put through the ringer. I had a physician's office that wanted only the easy cases and left me feeling less than priority. After my initial doctor's office's attitude and the rejections from my insurance, I decided to take things into my own hands. I knew then how much this surgery would benefit me and knew that nothing would stop me from having it. I began researching different self-pay agencies. Most were located in Mexico and the prices seemed to be "perfect".. Until I started adding in having to get a passport, plane tickets, and then finding a physician to do follow up appointments with. I know the follow ups aren't exactly a requirement, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Any way, after looking up all of this information, I was easily going to have to pay about 13,000 for my surgeon of choice in Mexico. After speaking with my husband, we decided to see if the states had any physicians with self pay prices. I found one and could've never been able to ask for more!

Dr. Wayne Westmoreland (Murfreesboro, TN) was nothing but a God send to me. I began asking about the procedure, cost, and locations, and just knew by the interaction with his staff, that this was going to be the doctor for me. The office staff made things accessible for me even though I was about an hour and forty-five minutes away from his office. From conference calls to emails, they made me priority! I didn't call and leave a message every time. No, I called and they answered. If they weren't at their desk, they called me back before the end of the day! The other physician's office, I was lucky to get a call back by the end of the week! I was about two and a half weeks out from surgery before meeting Dr. Westmoreland himself. Not only was he nice and kind, but very tentative. Given my history with doctor offices, I had a LIST of questions. He allowed me to ask every single one, provided me with answers and even brought up things I hadn't thought of. Now, not only was he answering my questions, but he exuded confidence. My initial surgeon was a percentages man and would say that, "anyone would expect to lose 65-85% of their excess weight in two years" and he had little to no understanding of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome... I did not get this with Dr. Westmoreland. I was flat out told I would lose about 25lbs the first month, stay on target by losing at least 10lbs a month there after, and by my 12 month post op appointment I would be 100lbs lighter. There was no questioning what he told me. He was very matter of fact and followed it up with knowing about Polycycystic Ovarian Syndrome and how it may affect my losing ability.

Now, lets fast forward through my 2 wk pre-op diet to the day of surgery... I had to be at Heritage Medical Center in Shelbyville by 6:15A.M. The facility is new, nice, and clean. Once I obtained the paperwork I had filled out during pre-admission, I was sent to same day surgery where I was greeted and quickly gowned. At about 15 minutes till 7, the anesthesiologist came in. What a genuinely nice man!!! I cannot remember his name, but he was super nice and understanding! (I had talked to him a few days prior about concerns with anesthesia and he came up with a game plan to keep me from being comatose after) He went over how I wouldn't be given as many narcotics for pain relief to prevent staying in a fog. He gave me something to coat my stomach as well as a Xanax(truly needed at this point). Around 7, Dr Westmoreland came in, met my family, talked about our game plan, and then prayed over me, the surgery, himself, and asked for a quick healing and recovery!! Yes, this man prayed in front of and with my family!! Talk about peace and calming coming over you in a time of need! I hadn't felt more relaxed!

I remained in recovery for a bit and then was taken to my room. I began walking rather quickly and was not feeling pain. Granted, I did have some discomfort, but my gallbladder surgery was worse than this!! The next day, Dr. Westmoreland came in just prior to releasing me and, guess what!!! He prayed over me again!! Not only for continued recovery, but giving thanks for how well the surgery went and how amazing I was doing!

This man is a class act! I will never be able to say enough nice things about Dr. Westmoreland and his staff. They all are truly wonderful people! Now, for the part that you're curious about. For $12,000 you get your nutritionist appointment, consultation appointment, anesthesiologist, surgery & hospital stay, and monthly follow ups for the first year! You get a physician in the states, board certified, and truly astounding!

I was overweight for the majority of my life. I struggled with depression and food was a very emotional thing for me. I also grew up in the South where everything is fried and plates aren't big enough! When I was 19 I had a horrible car wreck that left me with very severe physical and emotional damage. By the age of 24 I was over 300 pounds and worried that I might have a heart attack if I didn't make some drastic changes. I knew that surgery was the only option for me due to my physical limitations at the time. After meeting Dr. Westmoreland and talking to him about my concerns with the gastric bypass surgery, he suggested the Vertical Sleeve which I had not heard of before. I have not had a single complication, I don't have to take a handful of vitamins multiple times a day, and I can still enjoy a small treat every now and then :) I honestly don't miss being able to eat a whole box of swiss rolls! This journey has been a serious learning process, as I have had to learn how to eat to live and not live to eat. If anyone is ready for a lifestyle change, you can't find a better doctor than Dr. Westmoreland! He is the most sincere doctor I have ever met! You know when you are talking that he is really listening! I hope others can find the happiness that I have, and learn to love themselves and live a healthy life!
