My first impression of Dr. Steely was he that is is very through and skilled. I knew he was the one to do the job. He diffently knows what he does. If I had to have this sugery then I wanted someone that I could trust that he knew what he was doing. I got that with Dr. Steely. That impression hasn't changed at all. His office staff are nice and efficent. They have always beeen there to answer questions for me no matter what it was or is. The one thing I didn't like about him was I didn't see him much when in the hospital. Dr. Steely emphisizes aftercare through him and the support group meetings. He was very diligent on emphasizing the risks and complications of this surgery. He would make sure you understood what was going to happen and knew what the risks were. I would give him a 9 out of 10 if I had to rate him. He has both the bedside manner and surgical competence to make him a wonderful surgen.

My first impression of Dr. Steely was that he was much better looking in person than in his pictures! He is very professional, but also very personable. Whenever he wsa in the room with me, I felt more at ease. His staff is lovely and very efficient. They got me through things very quickly, and was always looking out for my best interest. The way that they get us all through it saves time and insures that no one falls through the cracks. I felt very cared for and important.

Dr. Steely is very business like, but compassionate and willing to answer all questions. The office staff has been very helpful. I have not had the surgery yet, so I can't speak for the aftercare at this time. There is a great support group however for both before and after patients. The office staff was extremely helpful in scheduling all of my pre-op required testing.

'My first impression was that he seemed very capable and confident. I was rather surprised when the nurse asked me to unrobe totally and then he came into the room and gave me a vaginal and rectal exam! I certainly didn't expect it and wasn't made aware by his nurse that this was about to take place. But I just figured it was part of the process and endured the indignity. (I'll go through virtually anything to lose this weight!)rnI can't give much more information than that because he was in the room with me not more than 3 or 4 minutes. However

My surgeon was fabulous. He put me at ease with my very first visit. His office staff are very supportive and encouraging. He really stresses the importance of healthy eating habits and vitamins. his staff are very willing to work with your insurer. He makes sure you are aware of all risks i would give him a 10+ in being a good all around surgeon he is excellent in bedside manner, and surgical expertise.

Dr. Steely is passionate about what he does and very professional. Dr. Steely and his staff were great through my whole process. Dr. Steely has many patients now so time with him is cut short. He has a great after care program with a support group and office visits. Dr. Steely does a group orientation, nutrition class, and education class.
I would rate Dr. Steely a 9 because he has so many patients, you may not get quantity time with him but he makes up for it with his staff filling in.
I think surgical competence and bedside manners are great.

Met with Dr. Steely yesterday. He and his staff are wonderful. They are working with me to try and get my surgery done as quickly as possible because my husband is deploying in the fall. Dr Steely was very straight-forward and professional, and his staff is very friendly. Looking forward to being "me" again with his help.

Dr. Steely and his staff are great. I have found them to be very patient and helpful from the start. My impression of him is very good, I do not feel I could have gotten better care or experience from anywhere. Dr. Steely depends heavily on his staff for support on visits as he is very busy. He and his associate Dr. Hruska are the only weight loss surgeons in Clarksville. They also perform other surgeries. However, the experience and success rate he has is excellent.
I was approved quickly, the only hold up was by my insurance,Tricare Prime, they changed handler shortly before I started my process. So it took 4 weeks for them to approve me after having all the necessary paperwork. Tricare does allow the patient to make thier own psych appointment, and I got that appointment myself with the Councilor his paperwork recommended. I also made and paid the $70 for dietitian counciling to expedit the process, my idea not theirs. Plus I got letters from doctors and records sent to the surgeons office, to help get me approved. I would have been able to have gotten my surgery within 5 weeks from the seminar, had I wanted, but I needed to finish some things at my work, and sceduled three weeks out from my approval date.
My experience with WLS has been EXCEPTIONAL, I know people, and have talked to people who have had everything negative that can happen from this surgery. The one thing I feel is of great importance it the pre-op diet! Dr. Steely told me that is to help shrink your liver, obese people tend to have enlarged livers, and a friend of mine was in surgery for about 7 hours due to her very large liver, and the surgical complications it caused. (My surgery was less than and hour.) She is a year out now and doing wonderfully but had a very rough couple of months after the surgery, she had the same surgeon I did. So your experience with WLS surgery will be as individual as the surgeon you choose.
I got excellent care at Gateway Hospital and Dr. Steely, two weeks out I went in for my first follow-up, then 6 weeks out. I have contacted them by email and have had very fast response from the nurse there. I followed his directions as closely as possible...I didn't start losing weight after my first counciling as he requested, I actually gained, then lost what I had gained during the pre-op diet. At each visit they stress what I need to do to sustain the optimal success from my WLS, and reinforce that it is NOT MAGIC but a tool to help me lose weight.
In the seminar I attended at the beginning of this, Dr. Steely didn't pull any punches about the risk, He does not do Lap RNY, only open RNY. He has done the surgery over 1,000 times with 2 fatalities, one was a patient with a high BMI who had a blood clot form and it resulted in his death. Dr. Steely now puts screens in the upper legs of patients with hight BMI's as to deter that from happening again. The second one was a lady who had a severe reaction to the anesthesia, it stopped her liver from functioning. 2 death..over 1000 surgeries... makes his mortality rate less than .2%, MUCH MUCH less than the nation average. Dr. William Steely in my opinion is terrific all the way around, with open RNY I was back at work part time in 3 weeks, fulltime in 6 weeks, and at 3 1/2 months other than feeling great, weighing less, I do not have any discomfort from my incision.
I realize I have been blessed, I am very fortunate to have gotten though this without nausea/vomiting or any other serious problems. I do feel strongly that God, alot of prayer and Dr. Steely not only got me though this, but got me though it with flying colors.
