I've decided to go with either Dr Kligman or Dr Celik both in Toledo, OH. The decision for which surgeon will be easier once I decide which RNY procedure is best for me and that I choose. Open or Lap, since Dr Celik does Open and Dr. Kligman does Lap. I've heard nothing but good about both surgeons! I think going to support seminars that they both provide will give me invaluable information and will aid me in my choosing.

With much thought, research, reading, and contemplation I have decided to go with Dr. Celik, who does the Open RNY gastric bypass. My close friend is having this same surgery with Dr.Celik on Dec 18 and I have heard nothing but the best reviews on him. I plan on attending the WLS support group on Sept 18 and have a consultation appointment on Nov 12. Yippee, I'm on my way!!!

Dr. Celik is a gentle man. Very easy to understand, and he tells you like it is. I liked him instantly. I went to a required support group meeting that he attends and watched him interact with all the post-ops. Every single person I spoke to all say the same thing, he is there for you. Step by step. I believe that! Especially when a post op patient came walking in that he nor his staff had not seen walk before, and he greeted her with a very genuine, warm hug. The whole room was in tears I think. She had lost over 200 pounds! Dr. Celik answers all your questions, and encourages you to ask more if you need to, his staff are very approachable. I felt very comfortable around him and his staff. That is important, in that comfort does not breed fear. Dr. Celik if very clear on all the risks of surgery, and what he wants you to do after surgery. After care is very important to this team, that is why they have a large support group. About the only thing I found was the lack of organization at the meeting, and I feel that some information can be collected before your first appointment, since it is almost 3 month wait. I feel they could send out a packet of necessary paperwork you need and that way you could bring it with you for your first appointment. Some protocol could be skipped if qualification call for it. I mean in paperwork. All in all I am expecting a good experience with this team of professionals.

I have the greatest confidence in Dr. Celik. He performed a vertical banded gastroplasty on me 16 yrs ago. i lost 125 lbs at that time. I did keep the weight off for approx 8 yrs. But I did find out recently that I no longer had the staples. No wonder ive gained the weight back. Not only has he done the vgb on me but has done 2 other surgeries on me. I would trust no one else.
I also am a nurse and have worked in the hospital where he practices and have seen his surgical skills. Very impressive. He is rather quiet but his bedside manner is wonderful and he has a very calming effect.
I cant think of any thing that I dont like about Dr. Celik. His office staff is wonderful especially Sandy who really gets things moving.
On a scale of 1=10 I give Dr. Celik a 10

After much research, I am confident Dr. Celik is the experienced surgeon I need. I will be meeting with him one more time before surgery and have started a list of "last minute" questions. My PCP speaks highly of Dr. Celik's surgical abilities as well.

Impressions of surgeon and staff:

I have many contacts through work, family,
and friends. As soon as my PCP gave me
Dr. Celik's name as a referral I started
to check him out. All of the reports I got
were reassuring. I found out that a friend
had the surgery a year ago she had the most
to share and it was all good.

My first contacts with the office were
friendly and professional. I felt support
from the first contact when they advised
paperwork that would expedite the process.

My wife attended my first office visit
with me. We were handled in a friendly,
professional manner by the Dr. and his
staff. They gave us all the time we
wanted and answered all our questions.
I felt the Dr. was a little shy, I was told
later because of his accent. His accent
was not a problem. I felt an immediate
respect for him and his staff because
of the respect they show.

They outlined the process on the first
appointment and I felt I have picked the
right office to support me on this decision.

Talking with his past patients further
reassures my decision.

Surgical competence is of the upmost
importance but I feel I got the best
of both worlds with his apparent bedside
manner and support staff.

He is rather reserved and very professsional, he has a great office staff that are in charge of your case and they call and help keep you updated and informed.I was comfortable with the Dr.Surgical competence is really important you have the nurses and nurse aides for bedside manner. A Dr. is not always aware of the fact that there is bedside manner but that does not make him a bad Dr. This is all I have for now.
He is the best! I was so well taken care of by my Dr.He held my hand till I fell asleep as they administered the anathesia. I am so glad he is my Dr. and will be for the rest of my life. His office staff is right there if you need anything. They don't put you on hold they go the extra mile.

Dr. Celik seemed very professional. He asked me if I was sure this was what I wanted to do. He told me that this was MAJOR surgery, and that I would have to follow his directions for my after-care.

5/02/01, I HAD MY SURGERY ON MARCH 16TH AT 8 AM. I WAS TAKEN INTO THE OPERATING ROOM AND THAT ALONE IS A PRETTY FREIGHTENING VIEW.
I WAS TERRIFIED.........................

EVERYONE STARTED TO PREPARE ME FOR SURGERY,ALL I THOUGHT ABOUT AT FIRST GLANCE WAS ALL THESE PEOPLE IN HERE FOR ME, WHOWL..............

10 MINUTES AFTER I ARRIVED IN THERE I SAW DR. CELIK, HE CAME OVER TO ME AND HELD MY HAND AND REASSURED ME THAT EVERYTHING WAS GOING TO BE FINE AND THE NEXT THING I KNEW, I WAS KNOCKED OUT!

I WOULD SAY DR. CELIK IS VERY PROFESSIONAL, COMPASSIONATE AND UNDERSTANDING. I WOULD RATE HIM OUT OF 10 AN 8. I HAVE BEEN VERY PLEASED WITH HIM AND WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND ANYONE. ST CHARLES MERCY HOSPITAL, THEY SAY IF YOU CAN NOT SAY ANYTHING GOOD DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL WELL?????????????

I HAD TO BE AT THE HOSPITAL BY 6AM, UPON ARRIVING I HAD TO GO THREW OUT PATEINT ADMITTING, I DID NOT UNDERSTAND THAT AT ALL????????????? YOU FIGURE THAT ONE OUT.

AFTER REGISTERING I COULD NOT GO TO A ROOM BECAUSE I HAD NOT BEEN ASSIGNED ONE YET, YOU FIGURE IT OUT???????????????THERE AGAIN IT IS NOT AS IF THEY DID NOT KNOW I WASN'T GOING TO BE IN THERE FOR A MINIMUM OF 3 TO 5 DAYS, AS IT TURNS OUT IT WAS 12 DAYS AGAIN YOU DO THE MATH. SO, MY FAMILY HAD NO WHERE TO PUT MY SUITCASE. THEY HAD TO TAKE IT BACK HOME AND ACTUALLY BRING IT BACK 2 OR 3 DAYS LATER. ONCE I WAS COHERENT.

YES, I HAD MY PURSE WITH ME. AFTER BEING DISCHARGED WHILE PREPARING TO GO HOME AFTER MY LONG STAY I DISCOVERED MY PURSE WAS MISSING. WOULD YOU BELIEVE I HAD TO CALL 911 FROM MY HOSPITAL BED AND A DAY AFTER I WAS AT HOME THE LOCAL NEWS WHICH USED ME AS THEIR LEAD STORY ON MARCH 28TH. TO THIS DAY I HAVE NOT HEARD 1 WORD FROM ST CHARLES MERCY ABOUT THIS INCIDENT.

I WAS TOLD BY THE NURSING STAFF DURING MY LENGTHY STAY THAT ST CHARLES MERCY WILL BE THE LEADING HOSPITAL TO PERFORM THIS PROCEDURE. WELL, I THINK BEFORE THAT HAPPENS THERE IS SOME EXTENSIVE TRAINING THAT NEEDS TO TAKE PLACE FROM ADMITTING TO NURSING STAFF. WHEN YOU CONSIDER THE SEVERITY OF THE PROCEDURE AND COST.

3/11/01 I DO APOLOGIZE FOR IT BEING SUCH A LONG TIME, BUT, I HAVE BEEN SO EXHAUSTED FROM THE RUN AROUND THAT I HAVE GOTTON FROM THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY IN REFERENCE TO HOW SO MANY DR'S CONDUCT THEMSELVES AND THEIR STAFF WHEN DEALING WITH BARIATRIC CLIENTS.

I HAD SETTLED FOR A DR. STELLATO IN CLEVELAND UNTIL LAST WEEK WHEN I GOT AN E-MAIL FROM AN ANGEL, I MEAN TRULY AN ANGEL. I FEEL SHE HAS SAVED MY LIFE.

HER NAME IS LINDA GRAY, SHE REACHED OUT TO ME IN CYBERSPACE WITH DR. CELIK IN OREGON, OHIO. WHEN I RECIEVED THIS INFORMATION I WAS SO EXCITED I COULD NOT BELIEVE WHAT I WAS READING IN MY E-MAIL.
I REALLY WAS AT THE END OF MY ROPE. DR. CELIK HAPPENED TO BE RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER FROM WHERE I LIVED AS WELL AS THE HOSPITAL WHERE THE SURGERY WILL BE PERFORMED. WHEN MEETING DR. CELIK I FOUND HIM TO BE PERSONABLE YET PROFESSIONAL.

HE WAS PATEINT AND CARING. SANDY HIS ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT WHO HANDLES INSURANCE APPROVAL AND ADMITTING AS WELL AS PRETESTING AT THE HOSPITAL. SHE TOO I FOUND EXTREMELY PERSONABLE AND CARING.

WHEN TALKING WITH DR CELIK I FELT AS THOUGH HE REALLY CARED, SO WHEN HE ASKED ME WHEN I WANTED TO HAVE THE PROCEDURE DONE I IMMEDIATELY RESPONSED "RIGHT NOW". HE LOOKED AT ME WITH VERY CARING EYES AND SAID IS NEXT WEEK SOON ENOUGH.

I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT. I WAS SO EXCITED I RESPONSED WITH A HUG TO HIM, AND SAYING YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THIS MEANS TO ME. THIS HAS BEEN SUCH AN UP HILL CLIMB EVERY STEP OF THE WAY.

MY SURGERY DATE IS MARCH 16TH 2001. SO 1 WEEK FROM THE MOMENT WE MET HE WAS GOING TO CHANGE MY LIFE FOREVER

SEE, I KNOW HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO GIVE AS MUCH INFORMATION ABOUT DR'S AS POSSIBLE BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN ON THIS VERY SITE MANY TIMES CHECKING THE 100'S OF OPINIONS FROM THE MANY PATIENTS WHO REACH OUT FOR ANSWERS.

SO IF I HAD TO RATE DR. CELIK ON A SCALE FROM 1 TO 10 AT THIS POINT I WOULD SAY 10. AT THIS TIME I AM OH.......... SO PLEASED WITH WHAT I HAVE RECIEVED.

I WILL DO MUCH BETTER IN THE FUTURE WITH UPDATING MY COMMENTS. SO PRAY FOR ME THAT EVERYTHING GOES AS PLANNED AND I LOOK FORWARD TO KEEPING YOU UP ON MY PROGRESS.

I INITIALLY MET WITH DR. BISTOLARIDES 12/29/1999. MY FIRST IMPRESSION WAS THAT HE WAS VERY IMPERSONAL YET PROFESSIONAL.
HE EXPLAINED THE RNY PROCEDURE THOROUGHLY, I FOUND HIM TO BE EXTREMELY PATIENT AND WILLING TO ANSWER ANY AND ALL QUESTIONS THAT I HAD.

HE ANSWERED SO THOROUGHLY THAT IT SCARED ME AND IT HAS TAKEN ME THIS LONG TO REALLY REALIZE THAT THIS IS WHAT I MUST DO.

I RETURNED TO BARIATRIC TREATMENT CENTERS ON 8/9/2000 AND MET WITH DR. B ONCE AGAIN AND THIS TIME I FOUND HIM TO BE AGAIN VERY PROFESSIONIAL YET WARM AND FRIENDLY. HE ASKED IF ANYTHING HAD CHANGED SINCE MY VISIT IN DECEMBER AND I ASSURED HIM EVERYTHING WAS THE SAME EXCEPT THAT I HAD SURGERY ON MY FEET, BUNIONS ON BOTH FEET. SO, I AM STILL RECOVERING

9/20/00, IT WOULD APPEAR THAT SINCE I HAVE SUBMITTED ALL PERTINENT MEDICAL DOCUMENTATION, I HAVE HAD EXTREME DIFFICULTY REACHING THE PRE-AUTHORIZATION COORDINATOR AT BARIATRIC TREATMENT CENTERS IN ANN ARBOR. I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN THEM, SO MUCH SO THAT I HAVE SOUGHT OUT ANOTHER SURGEON.

THANKS TO THIS WLS WEBSITE I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH MANY PHYSICIANS. I WAS SO SURPRISED ON FRIDAY NITE WHEN I SAT DOWN TO E-MAIL THE NEW DOCTOR THAT I AM CONSIDERING, IT WAS QUITE LATE.

I CERTAINLY DID NOT EXPECT TO GET A TELEPHONE CALL ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON DR. HARES IN BLOOMFIELD HILLS, MI. I WAS STOCKS, BUT ALSO IMPRESSED BY HIS ATTENTIVENESS. WOWL.............HE CALLED TO LET ME KNOW THAT HE HAD RECIEVED MY E-MAIL AND TO SAY THAT HE WOULD GLADING HANDLE MY SURGERY. HE PRECEDED TO GIVE ME HIS OFFICE AND HIS NURSE'S TELEPHONE #"S AND ALSO TO SAY THAT AT MY EARLIEST CONVENEINTS HE WOULD BE HAPPY TO SEE ME.

WHAT DO YOU KNOW, BEFORE I COULD CALL HIS OFFICE ON MONDAY WHEN I GOT HOME FROM WORK HIS NURSE, CAROL CALLED. TALK ABOUT SERVICE! IF ANYONE OUT THEIR HAS ANYTHING TO SHARE ABOUT DR.HARES PLEASE E-MAIL ME!

First impression is he is very caring. Only have met with him once so far.Office staff is VERY effiecient Have not got into any of the aftercare programs so far. But has had me in pre operative support group for three months already.
All risks of surgery were addressed
So far rate him very high, might change after surgery

Doctor Celik is really a great guy, the whole office got me in and out in no time. He explain everything he was going to do. I had a large scar from a gallballder operation that was performed 15 years ago it was about 14" long. He operated on the same scar and it looks 100% better than it did and it healed almost perfect. He is very gentle and informs me of upcoming meetings and updates me on things I need to know. I would rate him 10 out of 10, he is a great doctor.

Got a letter to join a support group that is organized by my Doctor, so my husband and I went. Great group they had a nurse and a dietitan with pre-op and post-op and people just looking. It was great, we are going again next month.
They also told us that our local hosptial St. Charles, Oregon,OH is going to have a set amount of beds just for the surgery and people there to understand their special needs. I had my first blood test at 2 months and will get them every 3 months if everything is ok.
