Gateway Health System Hospital
I have mixed feelings, I was so angry and hurt and cried nearly everyday of my stay because the day shift where never available. Every time I needed someone I had to wait a long time or nobody came at all. I was left in a chair nearly totally naked while a nurse was helping me wash and then she never came back...I sat there for nearly 2 hours. My only salvation was the night shift, God bless them...anything I needed, they were there, whatever I wanted, they got! They helped bathe me and made me feel so comforted. I watched the clock for the night shift to come. I had an extended stay because of fever and if it wasn't for the night shift I'm afraid of my condition could have ended up being.
Gateway is in a brand new building with excellent accommodations for the morbidly obese. The nursing, respiratory, surgical, and diet/nutritional staffs were all excellent. I had to share a room with another patient and the frequency of the various staff members having to check on me or administer medication combined with the "semi-private" room was exhausting, but the supportiveness of the staff made up for that!
The hospital has just built a new state of the art hospital a few miles away. They will be moving in several weeks to the new hospital so anything that I have to say about the old hospital would be mute.
The nurses were great. I also have to say that Dr. Bolar was wonderful doing rounds. I mean I never once had to wait all day for him to do his check in's. He was there by 10:00am everyday. That kind of reliability is hard to find.
My stay was horrible the nurses were rude it took them 15 mins to come to my room to change my IV, also my PCA stopped and i kept telling the nurse and she told me to lay down that it was working I just needed to rest ,I was in pain so I asked for the head nurse, when the head nurse came she found out that I went about 3 hrs without my pain meds and I keep telling the nurse but she wouldn't listen. After I got the head nurse involved my stay after that was ok. If i had a choice I would have never went to Gateway.
